The next days you went into the lab you had agreed to visit and lended a hand with a project they were working on in creating artificial stem cells, which you had wrote a paper on when you completed your PhD.

You hadn't spoken to Spencer every night like you usually did. This case in Canada had really hit the team hard, they thought nearly 100 people had been killed at the hands of this UNSUB...

Spencer sent you a text when he could to make sure you were both okay and to inform you he wasn't dead but that was all. You didn't want to distract him while he was trying to catch this son of a bitch so you only spoke when he instigated it.

It was Thursday and around 6pm and you were helping run a simulation at the lab in DC when you got a phone call. You didn't even look at who it was but silenced it because if you got this test right, then you could move onto the next stage and be a step closer to working artificial stem cells. Not even a minute later you got another call, this time you looked to see who it was and it was Spencer. You knew he wouldn't call you twice if it wasn't important.

"I'm really sorry I have to take this, add in the next part in 45 seconds and then wait for it to be finished, I'll be right back." You said to Carl, the bioengineer you were working with.

You stepped out into the hallway and picked up the phone, "Spencer? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, well, no." He sighed, "We just closed the case."
"That's great! You caught those scum bags." You replied cheerily but you were met with silence from Spencer's end for a minute.

"Sort of. They both got shot. I'll tell you all about it when I get back, I just need you."
"Of course, I can meet you at Quantico if you like or straight from the airport?" You suggested sympathetically,
"I'll be back in about 3 and a half hours, if you go to my desk in the bullpen there's a little surprise for you there and I'll meet you there." His tone had become a bit more cheerful,
"How did you arrange a surprise from Canada?" You chucked,
"I got it sent to my work address instead of home by accident and I had to leave it there when we left for the case." He explained,
"Okay, I'll see you soon."
"Can't wait." Spencer said and hung up the phone and you went back to Carl.

The last simulation didn't quite work but they were now a lot closer than before, so you felt satisfied to leave the lab soon after your phone conversation with Spencer.

You got the train down to Quantico and then headed up to the BAU once you had gotten your visitors badge.

Spencer had sent you a text saying that your surprise was in his bottom draw and had sent you the combination to open it.

You sat down at Spencer's desk in the empty bullpen. It was weird it being so empty, usually it was filled with people running around but no, it was deadly silent. It was quite eerie really.
