Chapter 51

(A/N: I squished up some dates here just to let you all know. I do know that the last few episodes of season 8 happen in may but for this they happen in June okay? :))

It was just a few days away from your due date. You had opted to stay at work for as long as possible, after all, you did work in a hospital in case you went into labour and you were going to miss so much OR time during maternity leave you wanted to stay as late as possible.

Tommy had flown out yesterday but you hadn't had a chance to see him yet between work and him trying to get settled with Maggie so you had agreed to go out for dinner tomorrow.

You were assisting on a surgery on an aortic aneurysm when your phone started to ring, "Doctor Reid, your husband is calling you." The scrub nurse said from the table where you all kept your pagers and phones,

"Can you answer it?" You asked and the nurse nodded and walked around to you holding the phone to your ear, "Hey Spence, I'm in surgery can I call you back?"

"I wont be long... it's just... you know that replicator case? Well, he killed Strauss." Spencer said sadly, you could hear the hurt in his voice. Even though neither of you were that close to Erin, you could only imagine how Dave was feeling.

"Oh god, poor Dave..." You replied, passing your instruments very carefully to the intern next to you who seemed to know what you were doing, you stepped away from the operating table and took off your gloves, taking the phone from the scrub nurse as you did, "Doctor Bello, I'm really sorry, I need to step out, I'll be back soon." Doctor Bello nodded and you left the room and headed for the residents lounge, "Are you okay Spence?" How's the team? What happened?"

"It's a long story, I'll tell you when I get home but we're all alright, coping you know? But Dave and Aaron have taken the biggest hit understandably."

"Yeah... When will you all be back?"

"Soon. We're just finishing up here."

"Okay. I'm going to head to Rossi's, I want to be able to give him a hug you know?"

"Yeah, I get it. I'll text you when we're back at the bureau."

"Thank you. I love you Spence, I'm glad you're safe."

"I love you too, and don't worry, I'm not going anywhere."

You got home and quickly whipped up a batch of muffins, you knew David was partial to your baking and muffins were good comfort food. When you were taking the muffins out of the oven Spencer had sent you a text saying the team were back at the bureau and just had to fill out some paperwork so you quickly put on some shoes and grabbed your keys before you put the muffins in a basket and got in the car.

Luckily, Rossi didn't live too far away from you and Spencer so it was only 20 minutes or so in the car. When you got there Rossi wasn't there yet, his car wasn't there and all the lights were out but it was a lovely and warm June evening so you sat on the steps to his mansion while you waited.

15 minutes later or so you saw David's car drive up and he looked stunned to see you when he got out of the car. His stunned expression however turned into a soft smile and you walked towards him and wrapped him in your arms tightly as he cried for a minute.

"I just can't believe she's gone Y/N."

"I know. I'm so sorry." You replied as Dave pulled away and nodded gently as he walked you to his front door,

"What are those?" He asked, pointing down at the basket full to the brim of muffins by his front door. You reached down and picked them up,

"Comfort muffins?" You shrugged and Dave laughed slightly as he opened the front door and lead you inside.
