"Thought I'd find you out here" Marley looks down from where she is seated on a tree branch. Her eyes meet Sam's and a smile grows on her face.
"Trees are a nice place to think." He nods his head walking towards and eventually climbing into the tree. "Whatcha thinking about?"
"A lot of things," Marley says tearing her eyes away from her best friend to look at the world around her. "Things are going to be different. California's a lot different from here, and I'm not going to have my two best friends by my side every day... Things are changing, I don't know if I'm ready for that." Sam climbs as far as he can until he is next to but not on the same branch as Marley.
"Things change all the time. Whether we're ready for them to or not. It's a little thing I like to call life." Marley laughs.
"I'm pretty sure your not the only one who calls it that." Sam lets out a chuckle.
"Yeah well, not everything I do is unique." Marley turns to look at Sam and their eyes meet. For the briefest second Marley is overcome with a sensation that she doesn't understand. Her lips part ever so slightly before she comes back to reality and carefully moves to stand up. "Where are you going?"
"I want to get higher."
"You sure about that the branches are getting pretty thin." Marley continues to climb the tree anyway. Finally stopping on a branch about five feet higher than she originally was.
"A bird sitting in a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because its trust is not with its branches, but its wings," Marley says as she takes in the view.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Sam says now standing on his branch.
"You Sam Wilson are my wings." Suddenly they hear footsteps and look down to see Riley.
"What are you two doing in a tree? Marley, you've got a flight to catch." Marley looks at Sam and Sam looks at Marley.
"Come on you've got some best friends to say bye to." He says and together they hop out of the tree, moving towards the future. Whatever it may have in store for them.
