A bright morning glowed over the Pokémon HQ Lab. Nestled in the temperate and lush Laztaz Highlands, it was sometimes impossible to imagine anything going wrong in the desolate fringes of troubled Orre; especially on cheerful mornings like that. A crowd of extended family and friends gathered around two barbecues. They spilled from the cobbled paths into the woods filled with tweeting birds and scuttling Bug-type Pokémon.
The family was once scattered across the world from Galar to Orre to Hoenn. They became entangled when Cipher, the criminal syndicate responsible for Shadow Pokémon, moved to Galar. After former Champion Leon was almost killed by his own Charizard turned into a Shadow Pokémon, his little brother Hop remained in Orre to dedicate his life to research and, of course, because he fell in love with Orre's Pokémon Professor, Jovi Mesquite.
Leon was destined to never see the back of that hostile desert. His daughter Amber, Camden and Jamie's mum, was born there and, along with Hop's son Zane, Raihan's daughter Cassia and Wes' son Seth, insisted on doing the Gym Challenge there. She only left when her husband Trip moved to Unova to pursue a successful career in football. Now he'd retired, they and their five kids were back and intended to stay.
Since Jamie defeated Champion Lyric to claim the title he'd held for five years now, only two Gym Challengers ever came close to defeating him. One was his little sister Laila. The other was Zane's daughter Wisteria.

A crowd of grandparents, siblings and cousins surrounded Camden when Jamie arrived. Lyric wasn't there. Camden brushed off everyone begging him to stay. It was clear he didn't intend to. He only wanted to speak to Wisteria's mom, Reira.
