Chapter 41

*Dan's POV*

The ambulance came and we took Phil to the hospital, the doctors ran some tests. Nina and I were sat on the chair near Phil's bed, tears streamed down my cheeks, what if Phil was dying, I can't lose him. My phone rang "Hello?" I answered "Hello Dan? This is Crystal, Vanessa asked me to call" a familiar voice said "Oh, hi Crystal" I said softly "Dan are you crying? What's wrong?" She asked concerned "Well, Phil is in the hospital.." I explained "I'm so sorry Dan, I'm coming to visit okay?" She said before hanging up. I put my face in my hands and sobbed "Dan, you need to remain calm, for Phil" Nina whispered "What if he dies, I've been close to losing him so many times already" I sobbed she put her arm around me "You need to have faith that he will pull through Dan. You need to remain calm for him" she said quietly "Does Peter know what happened?" I asked her and she shook her head "I tried calling him but he didn't pick up" she sighed. "What happened to Phil??" I heard Vanessa she ran into the room "Vanessa slow down sweetie" her mum came running in after her "Phil is sick Vanessa" I said softly "Will he be okay?" she frowned "I don't know" I sighed and she gave me a hug "Don't worry Dan I know he will be okay" she smiled "who's this?" she asked looking at Nina "Oh, Vanessa and Crystal, this is our friend Nina" I introduced her "You're really pretty Nina" Vanessa said smiling "Thank you, you're beautiful as well" Nina smiled at her. "Vanessa sweetie, Phil is asleep we should get going I have work and need to take you to the daycare" Crystal said "No, I want to say here with Phil" she pouted "We can watch her its okay" I suggested "No you have too much to worry about right now, I couldn't ask for that" her mother said "Its fine really, I know Phil will love having her here it will make him feel better" I smiled, Crystal agreed to let Vanessa stay with us.

"Daniel, we need to talk to you" the doctor said coming in "Is Phil going to be okay?" I asked "Well, we need to perform surgery" he explained "Will he be okay?" I asked again "I can't say, this isn't curable but maybe we can help him out a little" he explained "Please just help him" I begged, he nodded and told us they needed to prepare and sent us to the waiting room. "Dan, do you know how Crystal is? She seems really young" Nina asked, I think she was trying to help divert my attention "I'm not sure actually" I said "My mommy is 22, she was young when I was born" Vanessa smiled at us "So she was my age" Nina whispered and Vanessa understood "Do you have a baby inside you Nina?" She asked and Nina nodded "I bet your baby will be as pretty as you!" Vanessa smiled which made Nina smile too. We waited for hours when the doctor came back "The surgery didn't do much" he explained "What do you mean?" I asked "You see this isn't something that can be cured. But he should take his medicines and control his stress level and should be okay" he explained "You're telling me there's nothing you can do? That my fiancé has to live with this for however long he lives and he has to suffer?" I said raising my voice "I'm sorry Daniel, but just make sure he takes our advice and take care of his health" he said calmly "Can I atleast take him home since being here isn't making a difference?"  I asked "You can tomorrow, we need to keep him under watch for 24 hours" he said before leaving. "Dan I need to get home, call me if you need anything okay?" Nina said giving me a big hug before leaving, she seemed to be in a hurry. Vanessa and I sat on the chairs near Phil's bed "Will Phil be okay?" She said softly "I don't know Vanessa" I whispered "Is he going to heaven?" She asked me I looked at her "I-Im not sure, maybe" I said softly holding my tears back "He will be happier there he won't be sick in heaven" she said to me "I want him better here, I want him to stay with me" I whispered. I looked at his scar, it was worse now "You know what you should do? Ask Santa to make him better! He can do anything" she jumped with excitement, I laughed softly "Really? Santa?" I asked "Yes silly! He will make Phil all better just watch" she smiled. "Oh I have something for Phil" she said opening her little bag and pulled out a stuffed giraffe "He makes me feel better so maybe he will make Phil feel better too" I took the giraffe and put it under Phil's arm "Thank you" I smiled at her. "What if he goes to heaven" I whispered "Then you should tell him you love him so he remembers, and kiss him on his forehead so he will remember you" she said sweetly. "I know how he can feel better quick, put your hand on his chest that will help him feel better" I did as she did "It doesn't work Vanessa" I sighed sitting down, tears formed in my eyes "Don't cry Dan" she pouted "I'm sorry" I wiped the tears away. Vanessa pulled out a marker from her bag "I know what will make you feel better" she said sitting on my lap and drew cat whiskers on my face "There! Better?" She asked smiling "A little, thanks" I said smiling. "You're a prince Dan, you shouldn't be sad" she said I hugged her "And you're a princess" I said and she giggled. "Dan?" I heard Phil whisper sleepily "You're awake! Yay!" Vanessa jumped with excitement "See Dan, he's okay" she smiled "Hey Vanessa" Phil said softly. "How are you feeling babe?" I asked sweetly "In a bit of pain" he said weakly "You needed another surgery" I explained and he sighed. "Phil look at the giraffe I brought you. Its to make you feel better" Vanessa said cheerfully and Phil picked it up "Thanks princess" he smiled "Where's your mum?" I asked her "She has work she will be here soon" she said trying to sit up on Phil's bed but was too short so I helped her up. She stared at Phil's scar "What are you looking at princess?" He asked "Your scar, do you know why its big? Its because you have  a big beautiful heart" she smiled back, that made both me and Phil smile. She got off the bed and opened her bag again and pulled out a drawing "I made a get well soon card for you" she said sweetly putting it on the side table, Phil smiled at her, I know having her here made him feel better. Vanessa sat down on the chair next to me, I looked at Phil's scar he noticed me looking "Is it bad bear?" He asked me and I nodded slightly "It makes you look like a superhero" Vanessa smiled "Not really" he sighed "Yes it does! It makes you look like a superhero" she said again. Phil hugged the giraffe and that made Vanessa's face light up. "What's that in your nose" she asked "Its to help me breathe until I'm strong enough" he explained. "Ohh" she said amused "Phil can I turn you into a cat?" She asked and he laughed and nodded. I held her up so she wouldn't fall on him as she drew cat whiskers on him "There! now you're a super cat" She giggled, I put her down on the chair and she yawned. "Bear is scared that you're going to heaven" she said softly "You like calling Dan bear too?" he laughed softly and she nodded "Are you going to heaven Phil?" She asked again "I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, I'm sticking around" he smiled "See bear! He's staying" she smiled at me. "I'm still scared" I whispered, Phil grabbed my hand "I'm not going anywhere, I promise" he whispered "I'm scared to lose you, I almost lost you again" I sobbed, he reached over and stroked my cheek "Remember what I said? I need you to stay calm for me, that way I'll be okay for sure" he whispered, I nodded. We looked over at Vanessa who was quiet now, she was fast asleep "She doesn't look comfortable in that chair" Phil laughed silently, I picked her up and set her in my lap so she can sleep a little more comfortable, Phil stared at me with loving eyes "I wonder how it will be like to raise a child" he whispered "Like this" I smiled at him "Remember when we were talking about starting a family? I want to adopt a daughter" he smiled "I want a son too" I pouted and he laughed "Well we can adopt a son and a daughter, we'll be a perfect family of 4" he smiled at me. A little later Crystal came back "Hey, how are you?" She asked smiling "I'm a little better" Phil smiled "Vanessa was good company, she's exhausted now" he laughed silently looking at Vanessa who was still in my lap "I'm sorry I took so long, work was busy today" she sighed "What do you do?" I asked her "I'm a wedding planner. You two are planning a wedding right?" She asked and we nodded "Well I will be more than happy to assist you" she offered "That would actually be great, we need all the help we can get" Dan laughed "That's great! I saw some great tuxes, you guys need to try them as soon as Phil is out of here" she smiled happily. "That sounds great" Phil smiled at her.
