Chapter 45

*Phil's POV*

I woke up in the hospital next to Dan, he was still asleep and had his arm wrapped around me loosely. He was up almost all night because of me, I kept waking up afraid that he left but he'd be right next to me promising me he won't go anywhere. I leaned in and kissed him softly trying not to wake him up but he did, he slowly opened his eyes and looked at me smiling slightly "go back to sleep" I whispered stroking his cheek "its okay, I should get up anyways and get you something to eat" he said softly kissing my shoulder and getting up "No its okay you were up all night because of me its more important that you get proper rest" I said sitting up and grabbing his hand "That doesn't matter Phil, you're more important for me right now" he smiled kissing me. He came back with a tray of food "I'm not really hungry" I said "Just a little bit please? For me?" He asked sweetly bringing a spoonful of oatmeal to my mouth, I nodded and ate it. He ate me eat all of it, I felt a little sleepy afterwards. "I'll be back, okay babe?" Dan said kissing my forehead "No, don't leave me please" I said quickly "Don't worry, I'm only going to the cafeteria to get something to eat" he explained "I'm scared Dan" I said panicking, its not that I didn't trust that he will come back, my nightmares just scared me "Babe I promise I'll be back" he whispered "Please Dan" I whispered "I'll only be five minutes" he said kissing my cheek, I nodded nervously. I'll just try get some sleep I thought to myself, he'll be back, I closed my eyes everything was peaceful at first, but then my nightmare started all over. I don't remember what it is exactly, all I remember is Dan saying he's done with me, saying that he doesn't want me, saying he wants me to kill myself so I won't be a burden anymore, I remember Dan walking away leaving me alone I called after him but he didn't look back, there's more, more horrible things. I sat up panicking, I was sweating "Are you okay dear?" The nurse asked me "Where's Dan?" I asked breathing deeply "He went to get something to eat, he'll be back" she explained "I need Dan, get me Dan" I said panicking "Calm down dear, he will be back" she started "I NEED DAN PLEASE" I shouted, she nodded and left the room. I hugged my knees and started crying.

*Dan's POV*

I tried eating my food as fast as I could, I told Phil I'd only be five minutes, its been ten minutes already. I finished eating and started to make my way back to Phil's room, a nurse came walking towards me quickly "Dan you need to hurry, Phil is having a panic attack and he's asking for you" she said. I ran to Phil's room, he was on his bed hugging his knees and crying "Phil? What's wrong?" I asked walking up to him, he looked at me and hugged me "D-dan, don't leave me please" he sobbed "I'm right here, please calm down" I whispered "I-I had that nightmare again, w-what if it comes true?" He asked "I promise you it won't Phil, I'm right here" I said. He kept crying, I sat on his bed and stroked his cheek "Babe look at me" and he did "I'm right here, look at me and calm down" he took a deep breath and nodded, I kissed his forehead and hugged him "I told you, I promise I won't ever leave you" I whispered. I got him to sleep, I held his hand and watched him. I texted Crystal and asked her to bring Vanessa to visit, I know she will be able to cheer him up a bit.

"Hi guys!!" She giggled coming inside "Hey princess" Phil said sleepily, he had just woken up. She ran up to us and stared at the bandages on Phil's arms "what happened? Who did that?" She asked frowning, I looked at Phil "I-I did" he said softly "Why?" she asked shocked "Because I wasn't happy.." he whispered, I squeezed his hand. "Don't we make you happy?" She asked him "You do, but its a little more complicated" he whispered. She looked at me "Are you happy Dan?" She asked me "Well I'm happy that Phil is okay" I smiled at her "Then Phil you should be happy too" she smiled, Phil looked down. "I know, Dan you can make Phil happy" she said jumping "How can I do that?" I asked her "Tell him how much you love him silly" she giggled, I smiled and faced Phil "Phil, I love you so much" then I looked at Vanessa "Now kiss him" she said, I leaned in and kissed him softly and quickly, he smiled at me "Are you happy Phil?" she asked giggling, he kept looking at me smiling "Yes I am"  I smiled back. "See its not that difficult" she said trying to sit on the bed, I picked her up and helped her. "Sometimes it is difficult princess" Phil sighed "But it should be easy, with Dan" she pouted "Sweetie, Phil is depressed, its a little difficult" I sighed "What does that mean?" She asked "It means when you get sad you can't get happy" I explained "Well he just said that you made him happy, that means it will get better for him" she smiled. "I try princess, but its hard" Phil said. Vanessa unzipped her bag and pulled out a stuffed zebra "I brought this for you, maybe it will slowly help you feel better and happy" she smiled giving Phil the zebra "Thank you Vanessa" he smiled at her.

We spent the entire afternoon playing with Vanessa, having her around calmed me and Phil a lot "I like playing with you two, people in my school don't really like me" she said sadly "Why is that?" Phil asked her "I don't know, they laugh at me, maybe because of my scar they say I'm weird" she whispered, now I understood why she was so happy when she saw Phil "Those kids don't understand how special you are" I said to her smiling "I wish they weren't so mean, I got pushed off the swing once" she said softly with tears in her eyes "What? Did you tell an adult Vanessa?" Phil asked her "Yeah, I told my mommy and teacher, but they still don't like me" she sniffed, I picked her up and hugged her "You know Vanessa, I was bullied too, a lot" I explained "What did you do about it?" She asked "Well Phil came along, he helped me" I said, she looked at Phil "Will you help me too Phil?" She asked "Of course I will, we both will. We're your friends" he smiled at her, I set her down and she hugged him. "Phil? Is this the first time you tried to go to heaven?" She asked "I-I tried before.." Phil said softly "What happened?" she asked frowning "I was sad, but Dan saved me every time" he smiled at her "I'm glad you saved him Dan" she smiled at me "So am I" I whispered. She hugged Phil again "Please don't try that again Phil, I'll be so sad if you do" she said "I won't princess" Phil hugged back.
