Au- human, nonbinay Virgil,

Roman's POV

I was reminiscing about the time he first met Virgil. I was still in awe of how far we've come. We're the same age and went to the same elementary school, but didn't know each other because it was a big school. Later on, we attended separate middle schools and high schools. We ended up getting set up on a blind date by mutual friends.

---------------------------------------

3rd person POV

"Patton, what do I do? I can't find 'the one'. I've dated many people and they keep either not being my type or I'm not their type," Roman groaned in frustration, to his roommate.

"Well, I know someone who's also single and gay. He's- I mean they're actually Logan's cousin. Their name is Virgil and they're nonbinary," Patton mentioned. "I've met them a few times and they're nice, sarcastic, shy, and other things as well. I can message Logan and have him talk to Virgil and maybe we can set the two of you on a blind date thing."

"I guess I try that out..." Roman muttered, he was getting a little desperate.

"Great! I'll text Logan and let you know!" Patton said excitedly.

-------------

"Virgil?" Logan questioned. The two were roommates.

"Yeah, Lo?" Virgil asked.

"You know how you mentioned that you were looking for someone to date?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, Patton and I have this friend named Roman," Logan said. "Patton wants to set you and Roman up on a blind date, thing. Roman's gay, uses he/him pronouns, he's creative, can be egotistical, ext."

"Oh, um, I don't know..." Virgil mumbled hesitantly. "I-I've never met him before..."

"Sigh..."

"... Did- did you say sigh?" Virgil mumbled under his breath.

"I know you're anxious, and Roman is not my favorite person, but he is a good person."

"Fine... I'll agree to one date..." Virgil said hesitantly.

--------------------

Patton and Logan communicated things between Roman and Virgil, setting up the date. It was not time for the date and the two were heading to a coffee shop for the date.

------------------

Roman got to the coffee shop and went in. He didn't see Virgil, (Patton/Logan showed them pics of each other) so he found a table and sat down. After a few minutes, the door opened again and someone wearing all black and purple walked in.

"Virgil?" Roman questioned. The person turned to him and walked over, sitting down.

"So you're Roman," Virgil said.

"The one and lonely- only."

"Cool, I guess..." Virgil muttered. He was fiddling with his hoodie sleeves.

"You look nervous," Roman pointed out. "You don't have to be."

"Sorry..." Virgil mumbled. "It's kinda my thing..."

"Patton did mention you were shy."

"Yeah... I have anxiety..." Virgil mumbled. "I also haven't gone on a date or whatever this is in a long time. I barely even talk to new people... it's scary..."

"Yeah."

"So, um, where do you work? ...Or what are you in school for? ...Or whatever..."

"Well, I'm going to college to be an actor. I'm currently working at the local theater." Roman answer. "What about you?"

"Oh... um... I'm- I was working at a Walmart. I'm not currently working somewhere though... I've applied for a few places and I'm waiting for an answer."

"Oh, what happened?" Roman asked. "If you don't mind me asking.

"I didn't show up for a week, because of a thing, and got fired."

"Oh, that sucks."

"It's whatever. I hated the job anygay-way. I was done dealing with Karens all the time."

"They're the worst."

"Agreed."

The two decided to go and get orders. They ordered coffee/snacks and sat back down.

"So um... what's your favorite color?" Virgil asked.

"Oh! My top favorite colors are red, gold, and gold," Roman said. "What about you?"

"Uh, black and purple."

"I can tell," Roman chuckled. "So..."

Roman was cut off as someone tripped and spilled their coffee on Virgil. "Oh my god I'm so sorry!" the person said.

"I-it's fine," Virgil said, grabbing a few napkins. "Don't worry about it."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah." The person left to get a new drink. Virgil turned to Roman, "I'm going to the bathroom," they said.

"Okay," Roman said. "Do you need anything?"

"Not unless you have an extra pair of pants," Virgil chuckled.

"I might have some in my car," Roman said standing up.

"Well, I'll be in the bathroom."

Roman went to his car, found a pair of pants, went back in, went to the bathroom, and knocked on the door of the closed stall. "I got some pants for you, Virge."

Virgil popped it opened a little, put their arm out, Roman handed them the pants, they pulled their arm back in, locked the stall door again. After a minute, Virgil opened the stall and walked out, their coffee-covered pants were in their arms. The pants were noticeably too big for them, their belt was the only thing holding them up.

"Thanks for the pants..." Virgil mumbled.

"Your welcome," Roman said.

"I feel like the coffee date thing is kinda ruined..." Virgil mumbled. "So do you want to do something else?"

"Sure," Roman smiled at the nervous man. "How about a walk in the park. Maybe we can get ice cream, too."

"Sounds... nice actually..."

"Shall we," Roman put his hand out to Virgil.

"We shall," Virgil chuckled, shaking his head, grabbing his hand.

The two made their way to the park and walked around. They went back and forth, making small talk. They enjoyed their time and decided to set up a second date.

(928 words. I hope this was good.)
