Au- human/high school
"Love is overrated," Virgil said in a bored tone. It was lunch and he was sitting under a tree in the school yard with Roman who he was arguing with, Patton who was trying to get the two to stop arguing, and Logan who was reading.
"*offended princey noises*" Roman made noises of offhandedness. "How dare you call love overrated! Love is beautiful, and amazing, and one of the best things in the world! I-I-I- H-how can you think love is overrated?" Roman ranted loudly, making Virgil flinch slightly.
"Now calm down Roman. Not everyone has the same opinions." Patton reasoned, trying to get Roman to calm down.
Roman took a deep breath, "I guess you're right, Patton." Roman then turned to Virgil, "I just don't get what you have against love, Virgil."
Virgil shrugged, "I just don't really believe in love." Since Virgil was young his parents always fought, and eventually got a divorce . Actually no one in Virgil's family had a good relationship with their partners, or with other family members. His father even kicked him out when he was 15, for being gay. He wouldn't tell the others about that though. He never told them anything about his family; he didn't need them worrying about him. If they asked he changed the subject.
"How can you not believe in love?" Roman asked, clearly confused. He didn't understand how someone could possibly not believe in love. He had grown up around so much love, his family was supportive, and caring. He loved watching shows and movies about romance, and the only books he liked to read were books about romance.
"I just don't, okay? Can we just drop this?" Virgil said, getting both annoyed and defensive.
"Okay okay," Roman said, putting his hands up in surrender. "We can drop it. You don't have to get defensive for no reason." Roman whispered the last part rolling his eyes. He hoped Virgil wouldn't hear him, but he did.
"You don't understand," Virgil mumbled, grabbing his backpack, stood up, and started walking away from them.
"Kiddo? Where are you going?" Patton asked.
"Somewhere else," Virgil said and kept walking.
"What was that about?" Roman mumbled, more to himself than to the others. He wanted a way to prove to Virgil that love is not overrated. Roman had liked Virgil for a while now, and the thought of Virgil not believing in love made him kind of sad.

It was the next day at lunch again. Virgil wasn't going to sit with Patton, Roman, and Logan, but Patton had talked him into sitting with them. He knows that Roman doesn't know anything about why he doesn't believe in love, but it still bothered him when Roman said he was overreacting.
"Hey, Virgil, I was just wondering why you think love is overrated?" Roman asked.
"Ooh w-well I'd rather not talk about it." Virgil said, getting anxious. He started to fidget with his hands, one of his nervous habits.
"You okay Virgil?" Patton asked, noticing Virgil was getting fidgety.
"Yeah I'm fine."
"If you two are going to keep fighting about love, perhaps you can pretend to date. Roman can try to show Virgil that love is not overrated, and if Virgil is not convinced after a week or two then Roman has to stop asking him about it." Logan said before Roman and Virgil could fight anymore.
"I'm good with that." Roman said, before turning to Virgil asking, "What do you say Virge wanna fake date, so I can show you how amazing love is?"
"I guess" Virgil mumbled. He wouldn't admit it, but kinda likes Roman.
"If you want to do it correctly you should establish some rules. I will write them down." Logan commented and opened up a notebook so he could write down the rules.
"Okay. What should they be?" Roman questioned.
"Well, how long will the two of you be pretending to date?"
"Um, a week?" Roman said questioningly, looking at Virgil.
"Sure" Virgil muttered.
Logan nodded and wrote down the first rule, "When will you be starting. Today? Tomorrow? Next monday?" he questioned.
"I think we should start Monday." Virgil said.
"Monday it is then" Roman declared.
"Alright" Logan muttered.

They finished establishing all the rules.
"It's all planned out now. We start next Monday and finish after midnight next Sunday." Roman recapped, just then the warning bell rang. "Well see you guys later."
