chapter 2

I woke up the next morning with my head throbbing in pain. I'm overwhelmed with emotions from last night.

First of all, I'm engaged, my friends on Paradis might be dead, and Commander Magath is sending me to the devils island in just a few days.

I extended my hand and looked at the pretty ring hugging my finger. It was so beautiful, but something did not feel right about it.

Commander asked to meet with me today so we can discuss the objective of the mission. Pieck and Zeke will be present during the meeting as well.

I slowly slipped out of my bed and got ready for my day. As I was leaving the housing unit, Porco approached me with the biggest smile plastered across his handsome face.

His hair was slicked back as usual and he was wearing his uniform with his favorite green jacket.

"Hey there, fiance." He grabbed the back of my head and kissed my forehead. "What do they have you doing this morning?"

"I have a meeting with Commander Magath. Not sure what it's about." I lied. I still haven't decided if I should tell him or not.

"Looks like we'll be doing our own things today. Let's have dinner together tonight? Same place as always." Porco gave me a small kiss on the lips and walked away to do what he needed to do.

The meeting is going to be held at headquarters. It's a large beige colored building that sits in the center of the internment zone. There are large pillars against the building and Marleyan flag banners hanging from each one. At each post, there is a guard watching Eldians every move.

I knocked on the Commanders door.

"Name?" He yelled from the other side.

"(Y/N) (L/N) of the Marleyan military, sir!"

"Come in."

The doors were opened by two guards standing by the door from the inside. As soon as I walked in, Magath signaled a small wave to them. They both left the room and shut the door behind.

I took a seat, noticing that Zeke and Pieck were already here.

Pieck was laying on a couch at the table. She wasn't used to her human legs since she would be in titan form for months long.

Zeke had a stoic look on his face with his hand folded together. He was in deep thought about something.

The Commander began. "The plans are as simple as they always have been. Someone has taken the Founding Titan from the King on Paradis. We can not risk having the Founding titan in the hands of anyone."

The Founding titan has always been Marley's goal for obtainment. The moment they felt they had an opportunity to infiltrate the Island, they took that risk. They didn't know if the King was still as strong as he was. They had only been told that he was growing frail and old. His time would soon come to an end and they wanted to seize the Founding while he was vulnerable.

The mission was risky, but Marley didn't care as long as they wouldn't have to kill any of their own people. That's what the Eldian people were for. We risk our lives so that they can sit comfortably in their homes and go to sleep peacefully at night. 

"You will all be sent to Paradis in three days. Once you reach the island, you are to configure a plan on finding out who has the Founding and retrieve it at once. In some miracle, Reiner, Annie, Marcel, and Bertholdt will still be alive. Gather as much information from them as you can. They are no longer in charge of the mission."

He laid out a map of Paradis and showed us all the key locations that we must search. There weren't many locations to infiltrate, so we all had to come up with meeting points and objectives. If we were separated, we found places to meet up. 

Carefully studying the map, I located key places. An unmarked castle location, the three walls and their subdivision walls, and the forest surrounding the area were going to be important places to camp until we can get inside the walls. 

"Zeke will be in charge of recovering the host of the titan. The host must be alive. Pieck will be your transportation across the island and if you must, she will help you flee any situation where your lives are in peril. You can not risk the enemy getting the power of your titans. (Y/N), I am trusting that you will ensure these two will do their jobs and help them to fight off anyone who gets in their way when they are unable to. You are their extra pair of eyes and ears. Understood?"

"Understood." We all sang in unison.

After we discussed our plans, we were finally excused. It was still daytime and I wanted to visit the park near my housing unit. Commander Magath told us we can have the next three days off until we leave, since Marley needs us at our best.

I reached a bench and sat down, soaking in the sunlight and breathing in fresh air. This was one of my favorite thinking spots and I didn't know when I'd be able to come back to this place. 

Life in the internment zone is rough, but I've never known another life. Soon, I will see Paradis and all the Eldians who live worse than I do.

Or maybe they live better lives. Who knows? I close my eyes and I'm suddenly thinking of my parents.

They were traitors to Marley. My mom, dad, and older brother. They were all caught having secret meetings every night. Their group name was "The Restorationists."

After they were all arrested, along with Zeke's parents, they were sent to Paradis. I don't know anything else afterwards.

I used to feel sick to my stomach at the thought of being punished and getting sent there.

Now, I'll be going there as a soldier in hopes of restoring my family name.

Even though they're all dead and I have no surviving family left, I wanted to make them proud from the grave.

I hope they're watching over me. Correcting the mistakes they made.

I walked back to my housing unit, when I was stopped by Zeke.

He approached me quickly and grabbed onto my wrist without warning. 

"(Y/N), need to talk."
