"I said what the hell are you doing outside the walls? I'm talking to you." The man on the horse yells to me.
I froze up. I haven't thought of what to say, I can't blow my cover.
"I-uh"
"Oh come one, Nile. Can't you see she's obviously flustered?" The girl dismounted from her horse.
"Take my hand, we'll help ya out."
"Thanks I appreciate it. Can't say I remember how I got here." I mounted her horse and we started moving towards the entrance.
"Everyone's recovering from the titan fight in the Stohess district. Is that how you got lost?" The girl asked me.
A titan fight? I wonder who it was between. Did one of them blow their cover and have to transform?
That would mean that at least one of them has to be alive.
"That is how I got lost. It was rough. I was separated from my family. I'm sorry, I'm just very confused today." I think my response was convincing enough.
We rode into the Stohess District through a large front gate. The smell of debris and ash stung my nose.
I saw all of the undeveloped features about this city. Not only that, but there was destruction everywhere. Buildings collapsed. Trees knocked over. Broken windows. Caved in roofs. The whole city looked destroyed.
Once we reached an alleyway, I excused myself from the horse. I needed to pretend that I lived here and that I was only lost a short while.
"Thank you for all your help. I need to go see my family and let them know I'm well."
Nile was more easy on his demeanor. "You take care. Watch out for bodies scattered. Unfortunately, there's a lot of casualties from the fight."
He handed me a face mask and said I was required to wear it. There is a lot of bodies and they don't need diseases spreading.
The two rode off quickly.
I started walking to where the city was less damaged.
Eventually I found an area that looked like it hadn't been touched. I was very hungry since I had spent half of my day walking here.
I looked around for a place that would serve food or at least something to drink.
I was so busy looking at the buildings to my side, that I didn't realize I had bumped into someone. Someone wearing what looks like a military uniform.
He immediately pushed me off and I fell on my bottom.
"What the hell did you touch me for?" He asked me, dusting off his shoulders.
I didn't even touch his shoulders.
"I just wasn't paying attention, I'm sorry." I normally would have gotten super defensive because of his attitude, but judging from how this place looked, he had the right to be irritated.
He just scoffed and turned back around to continue walking towards a large building that was surrounded by gates. There was military personnel surrounding the area. Guards were outside of the gates, shooing away people who tried to seek asylum.
I'm guessing they lost their homes from the fight.
I was about to walk away, but then I remembered what Zeke had told me before.
"...Also, at some point in the mission, I'm going to need you to go undercover and collect intel on the Paradis government..."
Fucking Zeke, go away.
