Chapter Forty Four

"oh you mean those people who you lug around in coffins?" Stefan asks 

"he can't hurt us anymore, Mikeal's gone" Klaus replies watching as Sally Jenson walks by wearing the homecoming crown 

"seems the homecoming queen is still alive which is surprising, where is Rebekah?"

"I have no idea I thought she was coming with Matt" Maddie shrugs as she looks around the crowd

"be honest Stefan where is my sister?" 

"I don't know, now would you like me to take you to your father?" Stefan asks 

"well it wouldn't be a party without the guest of honor, would it? bring him to me"

"alright, perhaps there's something in it for me?" Stefan asks causing them both to look at him in surprise

"my freedom from your compulsion"

"you want your freedom? well once he's dead and his weapon destroyed you'll have your freedom it'll be my pleasure to give it back to you" Klaus responds before leaving the two alone, Stefan takes her hand and drags her along with him. Once they're far enough away and into the house she pushes him off of her and glares at him.

"what are you doing I wanted to enjoy the party?" 

"you know too much, it would be too risky to leave you out there with him"

"Stefan I don't want to be involved with any of this"

"well you don't have a choice" he responds before dragging her to the car. She glares at him, she hated that now she was forced to be involved in this when she really wanted to enjoy her life in peace. Maddie didn't want to see Klaus die no matter how many people he had hurt, including her. Once they arrive back at the house Stefan drags her into the living room where Mikael and Damon stand. She gulps and moves over to her brother staring at the original who holds the white oak stake.

"change of plans Klaus is back and he's at the Lockwoods and he wants the body delivered directly to his doorstep" Stefan informs them

"I'm afraid he's in for a colossal disappointment" Mikael responds 

"well he's certainly not gonna come here, I hope your plan didn't depend on that"

"It didn't"

"you do have a plan right?" Stefan asks 

"oh yeah we got a plan just doesn't involve you" Damon states before the vampire hunter jumps onto her twin's body and tears his neck drinking his blood until he passes out cold on the floor. Maddie stares at the man wide-eyed as he wipes the blood from his mouth with a cloth.

"couldn't you just break his neck?" 

"well that certainly occurred to me" the man shrugs before walking out of the room, Damon turns towards his sister with a concerned look on his face and places an arm on her shoulder 

"are you ok?"

"I didn't want to be involved in this" 

"I know and you don't have to come"

"If I don't Klaus will think somethings up, he trusts me Damon"

"are you sure?" he asks 

"If you think this is the only way we can help Stefan then I'll help" she states before walking out of the front door following the original vampire hunter. They all hop in Damon's car and quickly drive back to the Lockwoods where the bass was heard even from the front gate. Maddie gets out of the car and straightens out her dress, wrapping her arms around herself in the cold air. Mikael splits away from them as they walk straight up to the front entrance when Damon is stopped by one of Klaus's minions.
