Chapter twenty one

"William, what are you doing?" Maddie asks as her voice shakes, Klaus removes his grip from her and walks over to the man

"that's precisely what I was wondering myself" 

"kill me instead you know it will work" 

"what are you talking about?" she questions

"this my love is Williams desperate attempt to save your life"

"William the only man who could save me is dead you told me so" 

"I lied Maddie, to protect you" He states, her heart stops as she realizes what he was saying, it had been him all along. William was the original child born of the blood moon, tears begin to well up in her eyes as she realizes he was attempting to sacrifice himself for her.

"wait Klaus don't hurt him, you planned to kill me remember?" 

"yes love but something about this seems so satisfying, after all these years of torturing I finally get to end it. Well say your goodbyes we don't have long" 

"William don't do this please"

"I told you I would never let anything happen to you remember?" he says softly 

"please don't leave me"

"I'm sorry"

"times up" Klaus says vamp speeding over to the man she loved, he takes one last look at her and smiles 

"I love you" he admits before Klaus shoves his hand through his chest, the girl screams in horror as he drops Williams dead body on the ground before walking over to his witch to complete the ritual, she instantly runs over to him and falls to her knees holding onto his hand as she cries harder than she ever had before. She had just gotten him back and now he was gone forever. After a few minutes Stefan walks over to his sister and places a hand on her back, she looks up at him with tears still falling down her face. 

"we have to leave now" 

"I can't leave him Stefan" 

"you don't have a choice" Damon yells as he runs over to them, he picks Elena's body up from the ground as Stefan grabs ahold of his sister. Her body was in shock as she stared at his body on the ground, it was unlike anything she'd ever felt before as Stefan takes her away from the scene.

The days seemed to pass by slowly as the only time the girl left the house was to attend Jenna's funeral. She was heartbroken for her friend who had just lost the very last bit of her family. As she laid in her bed staring up at the ceiling memories of William would flash before her eyes, the ones they had shared were everything to her. Maddie had loved him more than anything and when she got him back she didn't take advantage of it, she never told him her feelings remained. His last words to her were the three things she'd always dreamed of hearing him say, but she never got to say it back. She never got to hold him in her arms as they shared her very first kiss, she would never get to run her hands through his black hair or hold his hand. She was beginning to drown in her regrets as the days passed on. She hadn't seen much of her brothers as Stefan was most likely spending time with Elena to make sure she was ok though he hadn't spent more than a few minutes with his sister after just losing her love. Maddie didn't mind however she knew that Elena needed him more than she did, however she had no clue what Damon was doing. Out of pure curiosity, the girl gets up out of her bed stretching out her sore muscles, and tries her best to place the vision of William laying on the ground dead from her mind. She walks out of her room and down the hallway entering her eldest brother's room not bothering to knock, the girl gasps as she takes in his sickly face. He was extremely pale and sweaty, he looked like he was on the very verge of death.

"Damon what's happening?" she asks as she runs over to his side, she places a hand on his forehead and pulls away in shock as the heat burns her hand

"I didn't wanna tell you"

"tell me what?"

"Jules bit me before the ritual" 

"what? why didn't you tell me Damon?" she asks as tears fill her eyes, this couldn't be happening not after everything. She couldn't bear to lose another loved one

"after everything you've been through I figured this one should just be kept to myself"

"Damon"

"its ok I've lived a long time"

"its not ok I can't lose you too"

"trust me you'll be better off without me anyway"

"have you lost your mind brother? you raised me after mother died, you took every beating you could for me when father was angry. I will always need you in my life" she admits grabbing onto his hand, he looks up at her with a smile on his face and squeezes back lightly. 

"there has to be a way"

"there is, we just haven't found it yet" Stefan says as he enters the room with a frown on his face 

"you're wasting your time Stef there's nothing you can do"

"sorry brother but I'm not giving up" Stefan reassures before exiting the room, Maddie turns and lays a kiss on his cheek before following after her twin. The girl needed to do this, she was already breaking down Inside and without Damon, she couldn't do this. She would now put all of her energy into saving his life because she could not survive another loss. 

"I'm coming with"
