Chapter five

"no that's impossible I should be dead" Madison says as tears fill her blue eyes, this means that everyone she knew was long gone, including William. 

"Mads what happened that night?" Stefan asks softly 

"Katherine took me to the tomb and told me that I'd survive if I got into the coffin and I begged her not to leave me. She promised that I'd wake without aging a day the moment the tomb was opened"

"she saved you" Damon says 

  "William had just shown me home and I heard a dreadful scream. I found Katherine draining a man of his blood and she told me something"

"what was it?"

"she informed me of her species, she then spoke of my blood and the day of my birth was midnight exactly on the eve of the blood moon, this makes my blood harder to resist for vampires. She swore to protect me like family, but she lied"

"go on" Damon says frowning at his sister's words, it made sense since he found her the scent of her blood was driving him crazy.

"So that morning when the sheriff was rounding up vampires they took us both and when I woke up I was in the tomb and she was there, she told me you both were dead"

"well we were but Katherine fed us her blood beforehand and we came back" Stefan says 

"you're vampires as well?" she asks scooting away from them, Katherine may have lied to her about whether they were alive, but something in her gut said that she wasn't lying about her blood. 

"yes, Mads we aren't gonna hurt you"

"you're safe now" Damon states, the girl looks over to him and nods believing him wholehearted 

"she told me that I would remain asleep until the tomb was opened again, she promised to return for me" Madison finishes as tears fall from her face, the shock was beginning to set in and she was unsure how to feel. 

The two brothers decided to leave their sister alone for a few while she explored the property and the house. Stefan took that opportunity to step out and call Elena while Damon stayed back and observed Madison as she wandered randomly wearing a pair of Damon's sweats and one of Stefan's shirts. He was still upset about Katherine there was no denying that, but seeing his youngest sibling in that coffin had been the greatest thing that had happened to him since she passed. Growing up the three siblings were all extremely close however Madison and Damon held an understanding, about what it felt like to be a disappointment to their father. Stefan was always the golden child and rarely suffered the hand of their father unless he was taking the hit for her. Damon hated himself for not trying harder to open the tomb earlier, then she could have had a life rather than having to start over. He was determined to make sure that she was safe this time, her presence was a complete blessing and he never believed in miracles. He promised himself the moment he pulled her out of that coffin that he would never let anything bad happen to her ever again. 

"Damon?" her voice calls, he turns and smiles making his way over to her and pulling her into a hug

"I missed you sister"

"I missed you to brother" she says before giving him a quick peck on the cheek as they pull apart

"so what do you think about the place?"
