Chapter Forty Six

"I think it's about time we had a drink" Klaus states walking into the living room, Maddie quickly wipes her tears and crosses her legs trying to act like he hadn't heard everything she had said every though she knew for a fact he did. 

"I'd say we're overdo"

"well you've been so busy with all your plotting and scheming" Klaus smiles

"you know me never miss a chance to plan an epic failure"

"don't be so hard on yourself, who could have guessed your own brother would betray you?" Klaus asks as he approaches Damon grabbing a glass

"well I did have a front-row seat when your sister lied to you"

"ah well she's interesting that one, and you say you have no idea of her whereabouts?" Klaus asks, the girl frowns realizing that she also had not seen Rebekah since before the dance which she never showed up to. 

"thats the thing about younger siblings you just never know what they're gonna do" Damon says pouring him a glass

"cheers mate" 

"you know we've actually got a lot in common you and I" Klaus states walking over to the chair where Maddie sat silently drinking her own glass, she refuses to meet his gaze as he glances down at her a few times and keeps her eyes focused on her feet. 

"really? like the mutual loathing of my brother? why are you so mad at him? he stole something"

"my family the originals, I had them daggered and boxed up waiting the day where I saw fit to awake them and he went a pinched the bloody lot" Klaus replies taking a sip 

"of course he did, ah such a buzz kill my baby bro, nothing like this twin who actually has some common sense... well we'd love to find him the trouble is I sure as hell don't work for you" Damon replies moving over to him 

"you know both of your drinks stink of vervain so I can't compel you, there would be no point in killing you because you Damon are actually the one with the most hope for getting me what I need and yet it would seem that a demonstration is in order. perhaps I wasn't clear enough when I told you to find Stefan. oh well, it seems you people respond best to displays of violence, why don't you take this as an example of my reach" Klaus states pulling out his phone, the girl moves to her feet and stands by her brother wide eyes afraid of what the hybrid would do.

"so that thing I told you to do, go ahead and get on with it" Klaus says into his phone before hanging up and smiling at the siblings

After Klaus had made his threat clear he left the Salvatores in awkward silence, they had been in the middle of a pretty good argument but the hybrid decided not to obey common social cues and make his point. Of course, she still wanted to finish having that discussion with her brother but as of now, they had bigger things to deal with. Klaus had compelled Jeremy to jump in front of a car that one of his hybrids was driving, luckily Alaric had pushed him out of the way and taken the hit while wearing the Gilbert ring which would bring him back from the dead. Klaus made it clear that he would do whatever it took to get his family back and she didn't doubt it, though he had been kind to her mere hours before she felt like all of it was gone now, she was once again his enemy. Maddie knew they needed to get Stefan back as soon as possible before Klaus actually killed someone. As Damon and Maddie walk into the Gilbert house they spot Ric laying on the couch with Elena and Jeremy next to him. The girl notices the blood that coated his skin and his pale face and cringed thanking god that he was wearing the ring. 

"how's he doing?" Maddie asks softly as she walks over to Elena and pulls her into a hug, the girl returns it happily and pulls away after a few moments before turning back to look at the only parental guardian she had left. 

"he's dead but he had his ring, Klaus's hybrid hit him just right" 

"Jeremy why aren't you wearing vervain? where is your bracelet?" Damon asks 

"I don't know" he replies staring at his wrist in confusion, Maddie quickly touches her hand feeling the ring William had given her which was full of vervain, and sighs in relief 

"It was Tyler, it had to of been. That's why he was hanging out with you, to get you off the vervain"

"Klaus is sending a message, he wants us to bring back Stefan because he stole his coffins full of daggered originals. they mean everything to him" Maddie explains

"all we have to do is find four coffins and no one else on your family's Christmas list needs to die" Damon adds

"thats your big plan? to steal back four original's so this evil hybrid doesn't kill me and everyone else we know?"Jeremy snaps

"you gotta better plan?"

"yeah lets get the hell out of here, pack our bags and go!"

"hey Jeremy calm down" Elena replies softly 

"no I'm not gonna calm down Elena this happens every time no matter what we do, you get on my case about school and work who cares? none of us are gonna make it out of this town alive" he says before picking up his jacket and walking away. 

"he said he wants his family back..." Elena says causing Damon to whip around, Maddie turns to her and frowns hoping that this didn't mean what she thought it did. she hoped that it hadn't been their fault Rebekah was missing, that would be a whole other shit storm.

"no"

"If we give him Rebekah-"

"Klaus undaggers her first thing she does is kill you not an option" Damon refuses

"how could you guys do that? she trusted you" Maddie speaks up shaking her head in disappointment

"we had to it was the only way"

"well look at how things turned out, now no matter what we're screwed and you just pissed off another god damn original!"

"we did what we had to do get over it" Damon rolls his eyes 

"we have to give Klaus Rebekah back no matter what the consequences" Maddie states 

"yeah we do, he already lost four coffins... wait four coffins I have to call Bonnie!" Elena responds as she realizes something, Bonnie had a dream leading her directly to our coffins the night before. After a bit of convincing the kind, witch decides to help the group out and tells them the exact location of the coffins and where Stefan hid them. As Elena and Maddie get ready to leave Damon tried his best to convince his sister not to tag along but she refused, if Stefan was there she needed to tell him what he'd done and how much danger he'd put them all in. Damon knew there was no way he could change her mind and decided to allow her to join much to his distaste. As the trio walks through the woods Damon could feel his senses going haywire at the pure power radiating from the house. 

"I thought Bonnie said this place lost all of its mojo" Damon wonders aloud

"the dead witches were angry at her for bringing Jeremy back from the dead I guess now they have something they want her to know" the doppelgänger responds 

"I hate witches they're passive-aggressive" 

"I love them, the power they hold is incredible there is no creature quite like them" Maddie adds causing them both to glance at her before they walk into the house

"Stefan?" Elena calls out 

"come on Stef" Damon says, however as he hits a ray of light coming from one of the windows he screams in pain as his skin begins to burn. He moves to the corner of the wall and hides in the shadows as the girls stare at him in confusion.

"the witches still aren't a big fan, they used their juju to screw with my daylight ring"

"wait outside we can handle this" Maddie shrugs 

"Madison-"

"I'm not leaving until I know if he's here so if you'd kindly leave before you turn into a pile of ash" she nods before moving past him
