Chapter seven

Maddie Salvatore stands staring at herself in the mirror, she has taken in her outfit which consisted of the wretched Skinny jeans as well as a blue hoodie. She looks at her hair, which was cut short for the first time in her entire life, she had to admit that it was much easier to take care of this way, but she missed her long locks and would try to grow them out again. Today was her very first day of school since being brought back from the tomb, she was nervous. Maddie still had no clue how to function in this century, everything she knew was based on a few movies she'd watched with Damon, however she was going in knowing that Stefan would be right by her side, along with Elena Bonnie, and Caroline. It had been at least five minutes of staring at herself in the mirror, the person in front of her was not someone she recognized. This girl seemed strong like she could handle anything and that is not who she used to be. Maddie always tried to be like her brothers but the gender restrictions kept her from growing into the person she was staring at in the mirror, it was quite overwhelming to see how far she'd come.

"hey are you ready?" Stefan asks, leaning against the door sending her a smile

"as I will ever be brother"

"you can do this, don't forget I'm right here by your side"

"thank you, Stef"

"don't mention it, now let's go before we're late" he says grabbing her hand and pulling her out of the house quickly, Maddie nearly screams when Damon appears in front of her with a smirk on his face.

"I made you a special lunch for your first day of school, don't worry its actual food I did some shopping since Stefan decided he'd rather go hang out with Elena than get groceries"

"thank you Damon I appreciate it, and back off he's allowed to visit the woman he court's whenever he so pleases"

"ahh sister you haven't changed a bit, it's quite comforting actually. Oh and just a pro tip people don't call it courting anymore, it's dating now" Damon says sending her his signature wink before disappearing into the house.

The twins arrive at school after a short drive and as soon as the girl steps out of the car all eyes are glued on her. Mystic Falls has always been a small town, new people are noticed instantly and stick out like a sore thumb according to Stefan and he assured her they would forget all about it in a few days. It was still rather unsettling as the girl was certainly not used to any sort of attention from people in general, however the sight of Elena Gilbert walking over to them was enough to make her feel better as the girl brings her into a hug.

"are you ready for your first day?" she asks excitedly

"I'm quite nervous, to be honest"

"trust me you'll be just fine, we all have your back"

"what about me? do I not exist anymore" Stefan jokes causing Elena to walk over and kiss him before turning back to her friend

"so where's Bonnie? I see Caroline over there conversing with the blonde fellow but no Bonnie"

"Oh you haven't heard? Well that night we got you out of the tomb Bonnie and her Grams had to use a lot of magic to make sure it stayed open so Stefan and Damon could get out and unfortunately yesterday her Grams passed, the spell took too much from her"

"oh my goodness that's awful please tell her I will be here if she needs anything at all"

"I will"
