Chapter Forty Nine

Stefan drags the two girls through the woods painfully and when they make it to the parking lot he shoves Maddie into the back of his car and Elena into the front seat. As soon as he gets in she begins hitting him angrily and he fights her off and shoves her back causing her to look at him in shock this is the second time in the past twenty-four hours her twin had hurt her intentionally. Stefan pulls out of the parking lot and begins to speed down the dark empty windy roads with an emotionless expression on his face. Maddie had no idea what to do as the car doors were locked and there was little to no space for them to move around. The girl glances at her doppelgänger friend who had tears filling in her eyes but was too afraid to speak so she decided to do it first. 

"what the in hell is going on Stefan?" Maddie yells as Elena's phone begins to ring, he reaches back and grabs it and answers it quickly 

"hello Damon"

"why the hell do you have Elena's phone?"

"making my next move, let me ask you something. What's Klaus gonna do if he can't make any more Hybrids?"

"what?" Maddie asks in shock

"Is that my sister I just heard? Stefan-"

"well I figured mine as well up the ante cause he clearly cares about our dear sister as well" he shrugs before hanging up and speeding the car 

"what are you doing? Stefan let me out of this car!" Elena roars only to be ignored 

"whats the plan Stefan? What's the big move you're making?" Maddie asks 

"I took Klaus's family to make him suffer, I'm not gonna let him make a new one"

"so then what are you gonna do? are you gonna lock me up in some cave and keep me hostage?" Elena asks 

"maybe I'll just turn you into a vampire" 

"stop the car Stefan right now!" Maddie yells as panic begins to arise in her, however he only pulls out his phone and dials Klaus's number putting it on speaker in the center consul 

"Stefan how nice to hear your voice" Klaus says over the phone

"tell your hybrids to get out of town"

"well thats not gonna happen until I get my coffins back" 

"ok well then I'm gonna drive your blood source and your best friend off Wickery Bridge" Stefan yells 

"I don't believe you, Stefan, you won't kill them" the hybrid responds calmly, Maddie gasps as her brother takes a bite out of his wrist and shoves blood down Elena's throat as she gags and tries to push him away. When he's done he places his hand back on the wheel and Elena stares at him with hatred, Maddie reaches forward and leans her hand on her friend's shoulder trying to bring her some sort of comfort in this horrid situation. 

"I just fed her my blood no more hybrids if she's a vampire, and unfortunately for my sister, she doesn't get-"

"you won't do it"

"really because your coffins are next to go, say goodbye to your family Klaus" Stefan snaps as he speeds the car even faster 

"slow down! Stefan slow down!" Maddie screams in fear 

"fine I'll send them away you win" Klaus says yielding however the ripper makes no moves to stop and continues at the high speed 

"stop the car Stefan!" Klaus roars, he suddenly hits the breaks as hard as he can and the girl lurches forward grasping onto the seat as they skid. Maddie holds her head as her whole body shakes from fear. Elena gets out of the car and Maddie watches as they begin to fight outside of the windshield, she wanted to get up but she could not physically move her body. A few moments later her brother gets into the car and speeds down the road, he checks on her crumpled form in the back of the car several times but she does not move once. She felt the car move normally and she was honestly surprised he didn't try to put it into a tree and finish her off once and for all. She had no idea how much time had passed when the car finally comes to a stop, she made no moves and stayed completely still hoping he would just leave her alone in the car to crumble but to her dismay, the car door opens.

"come on Maddie get up" Stefan sighs, however she does not acknowledge him and stays in her place, he moves forward and wraps his arms around her causing her to sit up instantly and shove him away from her. He holds his hands in the air in defense and she gets up and out of the car backing away from her brother who approaches her.

"what are you doing its late get inside" he states reaching out to her once more, she flinches

"don't ever fucking touch me"

"Maddie-"

"you should have just done the both of us a favor and killed me when you had the chance" she replies as her breathing quickens and her heart races, she could feel herself panicking, and without another moment she turns and runs away from him needing to get as far away as possible. Maddie runs down the dark road trying to choke back a sob as all of her emotions spew out from where she thought she buried them. As she's running she trips up and falls to the ground on the hard pavement and allows herself to feel the burn on her palms and knees as she sobs loudly. She couldn't control the loud horrible sounding noises that come from her throat as she sits in the middle of the street. She knew how dangerous this was but she couldn't care less. She closes her eyes and drops her head to the ground trying to calm herself down and pull it together enough to at least stand-up. She remains in that same position for god knows how long controlling her breathing as tears roll down her cheeks when she feels a hand on her back. She jumps and turns looking at the person expecting to see Damon but finding Klaus kneeling down beside her instead.

"are you alright love?" he asks softly as he places a hand on her shoulder, she had no idea where he came from but she didn't care because all it took were those words to cause more tears to fall and another loud cry to escape her lips. He wastes no time by pulling her into his arms and against his chest allowing the girl to cry as he strokes her hair. He honestly felt and that she had somehow gotten in the middle of all this, she was innocent and he knew she didn't deserve it. After a few minutes of crying, she leans back and wipes her eyes sniffling her nose and stares up at him.

"I am so sorry you had to see that" 

"don't apologize love, do you feel a bit better now?" he asks, the girl nods and he reaches his hand out to her which she takes and helps her to her feet. 

"shall I walk you home?" 

"I'd like that" she nods
