Chapter three

Since that night with Katherine Madison had been on edge, she didn't know who to trust. From what Katherine has informed her, the blood running through her veins was like a drug, worse than any to vampires. She began to hide away in her bedroom alone where she would be safe. She wanted more than anything to speak to her brothers about it as they were always there when she needed them, however this was different, Katherine told her she couldn't tell a single soul. Though she trusted Katherine with her life Madison knew that she was playing them both, her room was right in between theirs and nothing went unheard. They knew that she was a vampire and she fed off them. As the days went on her brothers fell deeper into her spell and Madison felt more alone than ever, it had been a long time since she'd even spoken to them. That morning things were loud and disgusting in Stefan's room just like normal when a loud thump is heard followed by yelling. She stands and walks out of her room and into Stefans to find her father staring at Katherine who lay on the floor groaning she runs over and collapses next to the woman feeling her eyes start to shut.

"Go get the sheriff and the him we have a vampire" her father says

"no" Stefan says angrily

"Nothing you feel for her is real she's a vampire! I fed you vervain hoping to expose her" he says

"How did you know?" Stefan asks

"I didn't raise my sons to be this weak go to the sheriff son!" He yells. Madison watches as Stefan runs out of the room in pursuit of the sheriff and finally collapses. Her father turns and looks at her with horror in his dark eyes.

"You? Madison how dare you walk around this house with that demon blood inside of you! You'll burn in hell soon enough" he says just as her eyes close and she falls into darkness. Giuseppe Salvatore picks up his daughter's body with disgust and drags her outside as he meets the sheriff the man stares at him with pity in his eyes and the man drops her on the ground and holds his hand up, not wanting any of it. As the men run into his house and bring Katherine out his eldest son runs over with a panicked expression. 

"No you can't take them!" Damon yells as he watches them drag his sister and the love of his life into the carriage.

"Damon stop, I'll help you we will get them back" Stefan says holding him back

"Help me? I think you've done enough! You promised you wouldn't tell him!"

"I didn't think that this would happen"

"They're gonna kill our sister, you did this, this is your fault" Damon says before running away into the woods

Stefan and Damon stand in the shadows of the forest watching the carriage as men throw another person into it to be put to their death. They had to do something, both of them knew Madison was no vampire and should not be in with the rest of them. They had to get Katherine and Madison out before it was too late.

"Over here there's another one quick help me!" Stefan yells catching the attention of the men who follow after him quickly

Damon takes the chance to run over to the carriage and knock out the guard grabbing the keys and both girls. Stefan begins to untie them before Damon gets shot in the chest. Leaving her side he runs over to his brother before getting shot himself.

When Madison opens her eyes she finds Katherine's slim body sitting in front of her with a worried look on her usually calm face. She sits up in confusion and takes in her surroundings, they were inside the church, her eyes find the large chains wrapped around the doorknobs and she gasps catching Katherine's attention. "Madison listen you have to come with me right now" 

"whats going on?" she asks 

"the sheriff and his people are rounding up those whom they think are vampires, they plan to kill us" 

"this must be a mistake" she whispers 

"its not, now you must come with me right now if you want to survive"  Katherine says, Madison nods and stands to her feet and follows Katherine through a door and sown several steep steps leading to a place she'd never seen before. It was an underground room with a large coffin in the middle. As she enters the room every eye snaps towards her and follows her every move as she walks closely behind Katherine who has her teeth barred. 

"you need to get in the coffin"

"what no!" she says in shock

"you have to its the only way!"

"what do you mean? Katherine, I cannot leave my brothers"

"your brothers are dead! I saw it myself" 

"what?" she asks softly as heartbreak fills her chest 

"I told you I would protect you no matter what, and I need you to get in the coffin before they all kill you" 

"Katherine I can't I have a life, this has to be a mistake I'm not one of you they'll understand!"

"no they won't they think you're a demon just like the rest of us!"

"I don't want to die, I never even got to speak with William one last time! Please Katherine!" she begs with tears falling down her face 

"I had Emily cast a binding spell on you, as long as the tomb is closed you'll sleep not aging a day" 

"I don't want this" she says 

"I'm not letting you die Madison now get in the coffin before I make you" Katherine says showing her teeth, she sighs and steps into the coffin before laying down on her back and looking up at her best friend.

"I will come back for you I promise" 

"Katherine, if you see William please tell him I am not what they accuse me of, tell him that I love him" she says 

"I will, now close your eyes" 

"goodbye Katherine"

"goodbye, my friend," Katherine says before shutting the coffin. Madison gasps as the air is cut off and all she can see is darkness. She feels her claustrophobia taking over and her breathing quickens. Just as she was about to scream a strong feeling of sleep falls over her, the last thing she thinks is about her brothers before falling into a deep sleep that would last for nearly 145 years.
