Chapter Thirty Three

"now this is fascinating I've never seen this before, the one thing stronger than your craving for blood is your love for this girl, why don't you turn it off?" Klaus asks as he drags the girls into the cafeteria where Stefan stands which a large chuck of wood sticking out of his stomach and sweat dripping down his face. Maddie attempts to move away from the hybrid but he only locks her in tighter.

"no!"

"come on, your humanity is killing you. all the guilt must be exhausting"

"no!"

"you're strong but you're not that strong" Klaus states releasing the girls and walking over to Stefan, ripping the wood from his stomach. 

"turn it off" Klaus states once more staring into his eyes 

"no!" Stefan yells pushing the hybrid away from him and breathing heavily, Klaus stumbles back and catches his balance before rushing at him once more and pinning him against the wall across the room. Maddie instantly sprints in their direction but before she can Stefan's face falls flat and all emotion leaves his eyes. Klaus backs away and Maddie moves back over to Elena gripping her hand and standing in front of her. 

"what did you do?" Maddie asks in horror as she stares at her brother 

"I fixed him, now Rippah perhaps you'd like a drink from the doppelgängers neck?" Klaus asks as he moves over to Elena and moves her hair back, revealing her neck. Before she can stop it Klaus grips her arm and drags her with him as Stefan's eyes turn black and veins appear underneath them, he stared at Elena like she was prey. She fights against his hold kicking and trying to push him away but he only holds her tighter. They walk through the hallways quickly and Maddie struggles to keep up due to her loss of blood. Klaus notices this and stops them in the center of the hallway and bites into his hand and moves it to her face. She glares at him and pushes him back wobbling slightly. 

"I don't want anything from you" she spits hatefully

"don't be like that love"

"why are you doing this Klaus? why do you have to hurt everyone I love? was killing William not enough?" she asks voice cracking at the end, he stares at her sadly and bites into his hand once more, and holds it to her mouth.

"please drink up" she complies and takes a bit of his blood before pulling away and shoving him away from her once more. 

"I'm not doing this to hurt you, I've got an agenda and unfortunately you've been caught in the middle" 

"I really thought that you were different but turns out I was wrong" she states watching as his face falls and pain appears in his eyes

"you betrayed me first"

"you killed the man I loved and then held my life and my brothers in ransom! you forced my brother to turn off his emotions and kill my best friend how does that equate?!" she yells as tears fill her eyes. Klaus stares at her as guilt arises in his heart once more, she was just like him and he had done essentially what his family had done to him right back to this innocent girl who had already gone through so much. He truly wishes things didn't have to be the way they were. He wordlessly takes her arm and leads her to a classroom where she spots Caroline, Tyler, and Rebekah. Caroline instantly runs over to her and pulls her into a hug holding her close, the girl allows a few tears to fall but quickly wipes them away as her friend stares down at her with worry.

"are you ok?" 

"yeah" she nods 

"well the verdicts in, the original witch says the doppelgänger should be dead" Klaus states 

"so that means we can kill her?"

"no I'm fairly certain it means the opposite, call it a hunch" he states before walking over to Tyler and holding up a vile of blood 

"Elena's blood drink it"

"no no Tyler don't" Caroline protests moving over to him

"If he doesn't feed he'll die anyway, consider this an experiment" Klaus responds holding out the vile and Tyler takes it as he breathes heavily. He stares at it in disgust before drinking every last bit of it. He instantly chokes and holds his heart as he falls to the ground, both Caroline and Maddie run forward to help him but are held back by the Mikealson siblings. Tyler holds his head as he screams out in pain before staring up at them with yellow eyes and veins. Maddie gasps and Klaus releases his hold on her and bends down staring at his very first member and smirks. 

"thats a good sign"

After Klaus figured out that he needed Elena's blood to complete the transition he was happy to go back in and prevent Stefan from killing her. He instead brought her to the hospital where he compelled the nurses to remove her blood from her body. He had decided after everything he put Maddie Salvatore through that night he would allow her to stay with her friend as long as she promised not to pull any tricks on him. He informed her that he would kill Elena in the blink of an eye but she knew he was bluffing. Now that he knew he needed her blood she was going to be ok, she was needed. He couldn't kill his blood supply. Maddie sits in the hospital chair next to Elena holding her hand carefully and watching the solid red blood come out of her veins. She felt horrible for everything and wished she could do anything to help. Not long after Klaus left Elena opens her eyes and groans in pain, Maddie instantly stands and places her hand on Elena's arm causing the girl to look up at her friend. 

"whats going on?"

"Its Klaus he needs your blood to complete the transition for his hybrids, thats why you're here" she explains, Elena frowns at her words and looks down at her arm noticing the multiple IVs which were taking her blood out. 

"I'm so sorry I tried to stop him" Maddie cries as tears fill up her eyes 

"don't be sorry this isn't your fault ok"

"I have to get out of here"

"I know but we can't get past the nurses they're all compelled" 

"we have to try" Elena states as she tries to get up from the bed, just then a nurse walks in holding a syringe and jams it into her IV causing the girl to fall asleep instantly. Maddie stares wide-eyed and sits back in her hair allowing more tears to fall.

Hours later Maddie lay sleeping in the chair next to her friend with dried tears on her red cheeks. She is suddenly awoken by someone shaking her body gently and she opens her eyes taking in the sight of her oldest brother who stares down at her in concern. She sits up and allows Damon to help her to her feet, he examines her for injuries and sighs as he finds nothing but dried blood on her neck. Before he can say anything he notices tears falling down her cheeks and he wastes no time in pulling her to his chest and holding her in his arms tightly allowing her to sob into his arms. She had been through so much and seeing Damon allowed her to finally break down. She had missed him so much and tried so hard to prevent all of this from happening, but in the end, Stefan was his little pet and Elena was going to be his blood slave. 

"Its ok Mads I'm here" Damon mumbles softly 

"I'm so so sorry I couldn't stop any of it, Stefan he's under Klaus's compulsion and he turned off his humanity" 

"Its ok none of this is your fault, we'll deal with it together" he replies as she wipes her tears and pulls back staring at Elena who lay unmoving in the hospital bed. 

"we need to get her out of here" 

"agreed" he states before moving over to the girl and ripping the IV's out of her arm and picking her up bridal style and carrying her out of the hospital with his sister by his side.
