Chapter sixteen

"ok we're here please tell me what in the hell is going on" she pleads as he takes a seat on one of the large boulders that were on the ground, rather than joining him she stands her gourd and stares him down.

"well I'm sure you know of Klaus by now, seeing as Katherine's back in town"

"she told me about the curse and the sacrifice"

"well that's why I'm here-"

"you work for Klaus?" she asks

"yes I do"

"so that means he knows about Elena and I?"

"oh he knows, he's known about you since the day you were born"

"what?"

"Klaus is the oldest vampire in history, you don't think he'd be keeping track of what he needs to break the curse?"

"he was watching me in 1864" she says feeling disgusted, she wished had just killed her then rather than prolonging it, otherwise she wouldn't have to deal with the man she thought she loved who was now a total dick.

"not exactly, I was in charge of keeping you safe, in fact, its my purpose in life" he replies nonchalantly, she stares at him in shock as her stomach turns, she can't find it in her to speak

"I was turned by Klaus, he took me from my shack and gave me two options, I would do exactly as he said or he would kill my entire family"

"oh my god"

"He sent me off to Mystic Falls, it was before any of the other vampires had shown but he'd gotten word from one of his friends that worked as a handmaiden that you existed, now he couldn't let you roam around however you pleased, he needed to make sure you'd be protected and that's were I came in. I used compulsion to make you and you're family believe we had grown up as childhood friends so I could get you to trust me, as the year went on I escorted you to everything as your date and I'm sure you remember the last night we saw each other, I planned to ask you to marry me"

"why?" she asks as tears fall down her face, everything she knew was a lie and this news was breaking her heart, each word he spoke was like a stab wound

"well it'd be pretty easy to keep an eye on you if you were my wife"

"you knew I wanted to marry for love"

"you love me"

"I did, but that man is gone, he's been replaced by you" she says angrily

"I hate to break it to you, but I haven't changed much since then it was acting, that man you knew wasn't real. He was created so I could get close to you to make sure that you were away from danger for Klaus"

"no that's not true, the things you said to me, it were genuine I know they were"

"It was all to get you to marry me, you being all over me was just an added bonus"

"screw you!" she yells slapping his face, he turns and looks up at her angrily before standing to his feet and shoving her against the nearest tree she winces as he pins her hands to her sides
