Maddie leans against the railing of the balcony looking over the night sky with her arms crossed and her heart burning. She wondered how her life had gotten to this point, traveling with an original vampire and her twin brother who was forced to become the monster parents warned their children about. She missed her life back home, where her friends and brother surely continued their time-wasting searching to bring the twins home. She knew Damon would never allow Klaus to get away with taking his siblings against their will just to save him, he would do absolutely everything he could to get them back. As much as the girl appreciated the thought she wasn't exactly sure if she could return back to her hometown, it had never been good to her. She'd been born to an abusive father, watch her mother get sent to her death, forced into a coffin where she remained for over a hundred years, when she would reawaken from that slumber she briefly met the man she loved before watching him die horribly, sacrificing himself for her. It was safe to say Mystic Falls had never provided her with anything worth staying for. In fact, a small part of her never wanted to return back to the place which constantly brought her nothing but pain. As much as she hated Klaus Mikealson she was somewhat happy to no longer carry the pressing weight of her past tormenting her each time she stepped out the door.

Stefan was not exactly helpful during this horrible summer, he had fallen into a horrible depression and was ravenous for blood. Klaus forced this side of him out and she had to admit it was quite horrible to witness. She hadn't been awake long and in her short seventeen years, she had never been afraid of Stefan. Yet now seeing him rip the heads off of innocent people and slowly descending into madness was horrifying. She wanted to blame Klaus for her brother's behavior but she, unfortunately, knew that the original had only brought back a monstrous hunger that he'd been trying to keep at bay for so long. Her brother now mostly kept to himself, though they shared the nice and lavish hotel room Klaus got for them each place they went it was still as if he wasn't there. At the very beginning, he tried to protect his sister from the horrors but Klaus hadn't allowed her to leave their sights, after a while, he'd given up. Stefan figured that after everything Maddie hated him, so he thought it'd be better to keep his head down and mouth shut while obeying Klaus's word. He couldn't risk Klaus getting angry and using his sister who remained a human and in danger of being used as revenge if he were to step out of line.

Maddie turns at the sound of the door to her empty hotel room opening, her eyes widen when Klaus enters rather than her twin. She gulps and holds her ground staring at him in the eyes, if she'd learned one thing about him over the short time they'd known each other it was that Klaus hated the weak, but respected the strong. Little did she know the reason why Klaus liked her presence so much was just because he knew just how strong she was. The Hybrid smirks at her and walks through the room and out to the balcony taking in the scenery. He sighs and crosses his arms. The girl takes in his slightly messed up hair and blood-stained grey long sleeve and pushes back the thought of where he might have gotten it.

"Beautiful night isn't it love?"

"Indeed"

"Have you eaten anything today?"

"I have not"

"Well why don't I call up room service?" he asks, turning towards her with what seemed like sincerity in his eyes. The girl rolls her eyes and shakes her head scoffing at his suggestion.

"Is there something funny?"

"I don't understand how you can walk in here and act like we're two old friends after everything you've done"

"Well would you rather have me make this time together with a living hell?" he asks raising his eyebrows at her bold attitude. It was this that made him like her, it was rare that anyone stood up to him yet she did it without hesitation.

"That would be an improvement"

"Maddie I am trying to make sure you're taken care of, why must you always test my kindness? You must know that it will not last forever"

"I test your kindness because you killed the man I loved" she responds walking away from him and into the room, the thought of William causes her breathing to quicken and her eyes to water. She pushes back the tears as best she can and Klaus walks into the room with a blank look on his face and arms crossed.

"Why did it have to be him?" she asks softly sitting down on the bed, she leans her head on her hands attempting to keep herself from breaking down.

"I had no other choice love"

"How can you kill people without a second thought? Just for your own benefit"

"When you've lived as long as I have it becomes easier"

"I would never no matter how long I live"

"Well considering vampires run in the family there's a high probability the day will come when you do hurt someone"

"No I won't"

"Thats a bold statement Miss Salvatore, I'll be interested to see you prove me right"

"Klaus I'm sick of this, why are you here? Why am I here?"

"You remind me of myself I suppose, you're a survivor just as I. I think that one day the two of us could become great friends" he replies, the girl scoffs and crosses her arms

"Look I'm tired"

"Of course" he nods before moving over to the door and opening it before looking back at her

"If it means anything, I respect William. He was one of the strongest men I ever met and fiercely loyal"

"If you have such kind things to say about him then why would you take him from me?" she asks her voice breaking off at the end, he stares at her for a few seconds before excusing himself and leaving her alone to her tears.
