Chapter fourteen

Days, after they had narrowly escaped from Elijah the girls, were left with hundreds of unanswered questions. Who in the world was Klaus and why did he want their blood? After they had gotten home Maddie informed her brothers of what Rose and Trevor had said, Damon had decided to keep Rose around for information and allowed her to stay in the house. It didn't bother the girl much as she tried to see the best in people rather than the worst, it had always been a quality of hers. Since finding out the horrid information the Salvatore brothers were keeping their sister and Elena on a tight leash, they didn't want the two girls to be taken again or get into any trouble. It was suffocating however, and both girls knew that with Stefan and Damon by their side they weren't going to be able to get the answers they truly wanted. They hatched up a plan to distract Stefan using the master Caroline Forbes, while the two went down below the church ruins and visited Katherine who had been placed in the tomb. The thought of going down into the place where she'd stayed for nearly a century and a half was sickening but she had to get past it and talk to Katherine. Maddie had no idea what her old friend would to do Elena if the girl went alone so she knew she had to go. As terrible as Katherine is there was one thing about her Maddie knew, she cared about her, the girl didn't believe that her friend would have done everything just to fake her death, it had to go deeper than that. With Katherine, there was always something else. The red-headed girl didn't want Elena to come with as she spoke to her old friend, however the girl insisted as it was her life in the balance too, Maddie couldn't argue with that. Maddie is snapped out of her thoughts when Caroline's voice echos through the trees of the Lockwood property.

"I can't believe I agreed to this, I'm a terrible liar"

"he can't know what we're about to do Care he would stop us and we need answers" Maddie comments nudging her vampire friend, the blonde looks down at her before sending her a smile

"Stefan's gonna see right through me"

"Caroline as our friend do you promise?" Elena comments as they arrive at the 

"ugh you had to break out the girlfriend code.. ok I'll do it"

"thank you Caroline we owe you big time" Maddie responds pulling her friend into a hug, the three girls make their way down the steps and into the ruins where the entrance to the tomb sat 

"are you sure you want to do this?"

"she's the only one who can tell us about Klaus, and how to stop him"

"you're asking for the truth from someone who's probably never given it. Are you sure about this?"

"yes, I can't just sit back and wait. I have to know Caroline" Elena comments, the blond sighs and walks over to the tomb prying it open. Elena takes a step forward but Maddie holds her hand out stopping her, If Katherine was gonna come out then it wouldn't be for her doppelgänger. 

"Katherine?" she calls, the sound of footsteps dragging echos throughout the walls and the woman herself appears wearing the same dress from the night of the masquerade ball. Maddie takes in the sight of her decaying friend and sighs, she turns and gives Caroline a reassuring smile watching as she exits the tomb leaving the three alone. 

"hello old friend, you come to watch me wither away?"

"no that's the last thing I want, we actually brought you some stuff"

"dear friend you brought my doppelgänger here to bribe me?"

"we want you to tell us about Klaus" Elena fires back as she throws a pillow and blanket into the tomb, a look of surprise crosses over Katherine's face and she smirks
