Chapter seventeen

Days had gone by since Maddie discovered that the man she loved more than anything was still alive. She had kept to herself trying her best to go to school and come home, she wanted nothing to do with Elena's plan of suicide, she tried to stop her from going with Rose to visit her connections but Elena's mind was made up. Rather than dwell on the decisions, she chose to make Maddie spent her free time researching the legend of the blood moon. Legend has it that two babies will be born at exactly midnight on the eve of the blood moon, one will be in 1472 a boy with dark brunette hair, and the second in 1847 a girl with fire-red hair. The original vampire Klaus would have two chances to break the curse. 

She read about how Klaus had tracked down the boy and attempted to use him in a sacrifice but was bested by Katerina Petrova, nobody knew exactly what happened to him after that night. The girl wondered if he was still alive after all this time, according to Katherine turning into a vampire would not affect the ritual so maybe the man she was looking for had been alive all these years as a vampire. Klaus had to have a backup, she couldn't imagine he would let go of the person who could break the curse. She needed to find him and figure out what he knew, maybe there was some sort of loophole, if anyone would know it would be this mysterious man. The girl sighs knowing that the only person in the entire world who could help her at that moment was Katherine Pierce, who was still trapped in the tomb. But rather than staying alone and rotting Jermey Gilbert screwed up and Stefan ended up getting trapped inside. Of course, she was worried about him but Maddie knew that Katherine would never hurt Stefan not really. As she makes her way down the steps a chill runs down her spine.

"Maddie what are you doing here?" Stefan asks as he emerges from the darkness with a worry

"I'm here because I need to talk to Katherine"

"aww I figured you'd be back" the woman herself says standing next to her brother 

"you shouldn't be here"

"Stefan I have to get answers" 

"ask away old friend"

"who was the man born on the eve of the blood moon in 1472? I know you knew him" Maddie asks, she watches as the two vampires share a look before the woman turns her attention back 

"why?"

"because I wanna talk to him"

"what makes you think he's still alive?"

"I know that an original wouldn't let one of the only people who could break his curse go" Maddie replies crossing her arms

"very good, well you're right he is alive and well"

"whats his name?"

"William O'Brien"

"where can I find him?"

"do I look like I would know where anybody is? Maddie, you won't find him unless he wants you too" Katherine replies before walking back into the darkness, the girl sighs trying to ignore the pang in her heart at the sound of and walks over to her  brother

"how are doing?"

"I'm ok"

"Stefan I'm so sorry this happened I wish I could do something to help"
