Sixty Three

It was only a couple of days until the court hearing and they all couldn't wait for it to be done with. Cheryl had started her physical therapy and she was given exercises to do at home that she had followed religiously. Tommy had picked up a little bit after the day with the solicitor, his mood a little better but he seemed more clingy than usual. Getting him to go into his classroom every morning was a constant battle. Toni and Cheryl explained the situation to his teacher who completely understood and helped talk him into school everyday. Toni was exhausted, she hadn't had a restful nights sleep since this started. 'Why don't you go take a nap baby? I can get Tommy if you're still sleeping' Cheryl said as she came into the lounge to find Toni laid down on the couch, her arm covering her eyes to block out the daylight. 'I'm okay babe' Toni mumbled. 'Are you okay though TT? I'm worried about you' Cheryl said sitting on the edge of the couch Toni was laid on. 'I'm fine Cher, just stressed' Toni said not removing her arm from her face. Cheryl didn't say anything else getting the feeling Toni didn't want to talk about it, she just rubbed her girlfriends arm before standing up and getting on with some housework.

When Cheryl returned to the lounge she found Toni fast asleep on the couch, it was almost time to get Tommy from school and she wasn't going to wake her girl up when she had finally fell asleep. She gave Toni a small smile before putting on her shoes and going to her car, she was still a little nervous about driving after the accident but she couldn't put her life on hold because of what happened. She adjusted the seat of her car and pulled out her phone sending a quick text to Toni telling her she had gone to collect Tommy and if she woke up to let her know. She opened the gate before reversing off of the driveway and pulling onto the road. The redhead drove more carefully than she normally did but she relaxed more and more as she got used to being behind the wheel again. Finding a empty parking spot she pulled in her car and cut the engine. Cheryl slowly walked towards Tommy's class, she was a few minutes early so she didn't have to rush plus she didn't want to put too much pressure on her leg, she checked her phone to see if Toni had text her back but she hadn't. The redhead stood and chatted to Betty and Jughead as she and Toni normally did while she waited for Tommy to finish his class. Jughead was talking about the motorcycle trip he and the boys were going to go on and asked the redhead if Toni would be coming. Cheryl wasn't sure, she guessed it depended on how Toni was feeling at the time with everything that was going on.

Finally the children were let out of class, Tommy immediately spotting Cheryl and wrapping his arms around her legs. 'Hi Mama' he smiled. 'Hi baby, how was your day?' she asked as she took his hand leading him back to the car after saying her goodbyes to Betty and Jughead. 'It was okay' he said. 'Just okay?' Cheryl asked. He only nodded. 'What do you say to a milkshake at Pops?' Cheryl said as she buckled Tommy into his seat. 'Yes please' he gave her a little smile, Cheryl thought Toni must still be sleeping and she didn't want to wake her when they got back so she'd decided to stay out a little longer giving her girlfriend more time to sleep. She looked at Tommy through the mirror as she put on her seatbelt and started the car, her heart ached because of how sad he had been lately with everything going on. She pulled out of the parking lot and headed to Pops diner. The car ride was pretty quiet as Tommy just stared out of the window, his face lighting up a little when he saw the diner. 'Okay little man, let's go' Cheryl said as she helped Tommy out of the car, he took her hand as they walked into Pops, the little bell ringing above the door. Tommy let go of the redheads hand finding a empty booth and climbing into it, Cheryl following and sitting in the seat across from him.

'Cheryl it's good to see you, after Toni called and told me what happened I was worried' Pops said as he stopped in front of her table. 'Well it was a close call but I'm fine now' she smiled. 'That's good to hear! Hello Tommy' he smiled at the little boy. 'Hello Pop' he said politely but with a smile that still didn't reach his eyes. 'So what can I get for you both?' he asked pulling out his notepad. 'A strawberry milkshake for me please' Cheryl nodded. 'Okay and Tommy what would you like?' Pop said looking at the little boy. 'A strawberry milkshake too please' he answered. 'Okay I'll be right back' Pop said before walking away to get their order. 'Where's mommy?' Tommy asked. 'She's sleeping' Cheryl answered. 'Oh' was all he said. 'Tommy do you want to talk about what's going on? Are you worried or scared?' Cheryl asked just as Pop brought their milkshakes to the table, she thanked him and looked back at Tommy. 'I don't want my dad to take me away or take me and mommy away from you' Tommy said on the verge of tears. 'Hey listen' Cheryl said standing up and moving to sit next to him placing her arm around his shoulder 'you know we'd never allow that to happen okay? You're not going anywhere, me you and mommy are staying together, don't worry about that'. 'Okay' he nodded 'what if he tries to hurt us?'. 'He won't be able to sweetheart, there will be lots of other people there to stop him if he tried and mama wouldn't let it happen either'. Tommy nodded again. 'It'll be all over soon and we will be able to go back to normal' Cheryl booped his nose and gave him a small squeeze before sliding his milkshake over to him and grabbing her own as he lent against her. After about twenty minutes Cheryl heard her phone ping, she pulled it from her pocket seeing a message from Toni.

Hey babe, I'm really sorry I didn't mean to fall asleep. Where are you guys?

Cher
Hey TT, it's fine you was tired. Tommy and I are just having a milkshake from Pops, would you like one bringing home?

TT
No thank you. How is Tommy this afternoon?

Cher
He's still a little sad but we've had a little chat, he's worried about his father taking him away from us or taking you and him away from me.

TT
That'll never happen.

Cher
I know I told him that. We'll be home soon though we're almost finished.

TT
Okay baby, I love you.

Cher
I love you.

When Cheryl arrived home Toni was sat on the couch. 'Did you guys enjoy your milkshakes?' Toni asked. 'Yep' Tommy smiled a little running over to her and climbing on her lap. 'We did' Cheryl said sitting next to them 'how are you feeling?'. 'A little better now that I've managed to get some sleep' Toni gave her girlfriend a small smile. 'Good' Cheryl leaned forward placing a kiss on Toni's cheek before relaxing back into the couch. They spent the rest of the evening watching movies snuggled on the couch together with a take out. The couple decided to call it a night too after they had put Tommy to bed, both of them exhausted. 'Talk to me TT, please don't push me away, I want to help' Cheryl said putting her hair into a messy bun and climbing into bed next to her girlfriend. Toni let out a huff before turning to face the redhead 'I just want him out of our life's Cher, I hate that I've had to talk about him and what he did, it opens old wounds. Ones I'd rather forget'. Cheryl wrapped her arm around Toni and guided her to lay on her chest. 'TT' Cheryl whispered running her fingers through Toni's hair 'soon enough he will be out of your life, this is just the final hurdle to your complete freedom. I know you don't want to talk about him or what he's done but I'm always here to listen. I know I've said it before but you're not alone Toni, you never have to go through anything alone again and no matter what you tell me I'll never see you any differently, to me you will always be my TT'. Cheryl felt Toni smile against her a little. 'And you'll always be mine, the redhead I fell instantly in love with the moment I saw you' Toni gushed a little and Cheryl blushed. 'I love you' Cheryl whispered placing a soft kiss at the top of Toni's head. 'I love you' Toni matched Cheryl's quiet tone. 'And TT?' Cheryl interrupted the quiet that was filling the air. 'Yeah?' Toni answered. 'Even though I didn't show it I fell in love with you the moment I saw you too'. Toni just smiled snuggling impossibly closer to the redhead as they drifted off to sleep where hopefully their dreams where calmer than their reality right now.
