Thirty Nine

'Hey Uncle Pea, where's Mommy and Cheryl?' Tommy smiled happily at his uncle. 'Uh Mommy's at home and Cheryl's at her house' Sweet Pea said watching his words as carefully as he could. 'But Cheryl's house is mine and Mommy's home silly' he laughed so oblivious to what is happening. 'Well you and Mommy are going to be staying with Uncle Fangs and me, sound fun?' he said trying to keep his voice as normal as he could. 'And Cheryl too?' he asked his eyebrows knitted together. Sweet Pea took a breath before kneeling down to Tommy's level 'look Mommy's not feeling great okay so you guys are going to stay at the apartment for a while and Cheryl's going to be at her house for a while, okay?'. A sad look just crossed Tommy's face as he nodded trying to understand what was happening to no avail, his mind too young to put the pieces together. Sweet Pea just picked him up, he could see how hard this was going to be already, not only was his sister heartbroken but his nephew was going to be as well when he understood what was happening. He set off on his way to the apartment with Tommy in his arms.

Fangs had gotten back home just before Sweet Pea and Tommy, he knocked on Toni's door before entering with a bag full of their belongings. 'Where shall I put this?' he asked quietly. 'What is it?' Toni grumbled from her bed. 'It's some of yours and Tommy's things, Sweet and I thought you might need them. We asked Veronica to get them, I hope that's okay?' he sat at the side of her bed. 'Oh yeah, thanks Fangs' Toni nodded. 'Do you want to talk?' he asked gently. Toni just shook her head 'not right now, I need to get my head together before Tommy comes home, he's going to be just as devastated' she tried to hold her own tears back the door into the apartment suddenly opening. 'Okay Tommy, why don't you go and watch some cartoons?' Sweet Pea encouraged as he placed him on the floor. 'No!' he said with his arms crossed. 'Dude, come on' Sweet Pea pleaded knowing Toni didn't need this right now. 'No!' he said again louder this time. 'Sweet it's alright, Thomas come here' Toni said sadly as she stood at her bedroom door just as Fangs came out. He looked as his mother's face, he was so confused at why everyone seemed sad he just stood frozen in his spot. Toni walked over to him and picked him up smiling sadly at her brothers before closing the door on them. If Cheryl cheating on her hadn't already ripped her heart out this next conversation definitely would.

She sat on the bed with her son on her lap, she looked at him as he looked at her, she let out a small sigh before starting, he deserved to know at least what was going on. 'Tommy, I need to talk to you and I need you to listen okay'. The little boy just nodded. 'You and Mommy are going to be living here again with Uncle Fangs and Uncle Pea okay?' she preyed he'd just accept it but she knew he wouldn't. 'And Cheryl?' he asked confused. 'No baby, not Cheryl just us' she closed her eyes to take a second before opening them again. 'But why? I want Cheryl with us too' his lip began to quiver. 'Tommy, Mommy and Cheryl both love you very much okay? But we're not going to be together anymore, we will live here and Cheryl will live at her house' it hurt Toni to even say the redheads name but she had to. 'No!' Tommy shook his head. 'I'm so sorry baby but it doesn't mean Cheryl doesn't love you okay? She does very much, it's just Mommy and Cheryl aren't together anymore' she couldn't stop the single tear running down her cheek. 'No!' Tommy screamed wriggling from Toni's lap as he stamped his foot on the floor 'I want to go home!'. 'Thomas this is your home' she pleaded, she couldn't do this right now. 'No I want to go to our home with Cheryl!' he squealed. 'I'm sorry Tommy' was all she managed to say before the little boy threw himself to the floor in tears. Toni gave him a moment before scooping him up and holding him against her chest apologising to him over and over until he quieten down.

Sweet Pea popped his head through the door 'I've made dinner' he whispered. 'Thank you Sweet' Toni nodded picking her son up and carrying him to the couch. Thankfully Tommy ate some of his dinner but he didn't speak, Toni on the other hand just pushed her food around her plate her mind drifting off to what had happened this morning. 'I'm going to take a shower' she said jumping up not wanting Tommy to see her cry again. She rushed to shut the door as she turned on the shower, striping from her clothes and climbing inside. She just slid to the floor as she cried, allowing everything to come out knowing the sound of the shower would drowned out the sounds of her broken heart. She was a fool, she really thought that what her and Cheryl had was special, she loved her and she thought the redhead loved her back but she was wrong. Madison had tried to warn her, why didn't she just listen, she was so gullible to Cheryl's lies. She punched the shower tile in a second of built up anger hearing not only the tile crack but the bones in her hand, she couldn't bring herself to care though, the physical pain was nothing compared the the emotional pain she was feeling right now.

Veronica had laid next to Cheryl in silence for hours now, the redhead just curled up her body here but her mind somewhere else. 'Are you going to tell me what happened?' Veronica pushed. 'What's the point?' Cheryl said not even raising her eyes 'it's too late now'. 'Maybe it's not? Surely it can be fixed you guys love each other' Veronica soothed. 'You didn't see the way that she looked at me Ronnie, she hates me and now I've lost them both' tears spilled from the redheads dark orbs. 'Well just tell me so you can get it off your chest, I'm your best friend Cheryl, I'm here for you. I would never judge you' Veronica tried to sound as genuine as she could, they had always been there for each other. 'She found Madison and I in the hallway together' Cheryl sighed. 'Wait? What? Here?' Veronica couldn't make sense of what was happening. The redhead just nodded. 'I thought... you and Madison? I'm so confused right now' Veronica stumbled over her words 'what was Madison doing here, have you guys been seeing each other?' the brunette asked stunned. 'How can you even ask me that?' Cheryl said angrily pulling herself out of her bed and storming into the bathroom slamming the door behind her.

She walked over to the sink leaning against it as her grip tightened and her knuckles turned white. She lifted her head up to look at herself in the mirror, her face was a mess how could she allow something like this to happen. She was angry at Madison but she was more angry at herself, her blood boiled as she looked herself in the eyes. She couldn't take these feelings anymore, the anger, the pain. She pulled her arm back before swinging her fist into the mirror, it shattered into sharp pieces all around her as she fell to the ground. Veronica burst through the door at the sound 'okay, no we're not doing this' she said making her way over to Cheryl, her hand and legs bleeding where she had landed on the sharp glass. Veronica pulled up the sobbing girl leading her to the vanity stool before heading down the stairs to get the first aid kit. Veronica came back to Cheryl and knelt in front of her, cleaning up the blood from her legs and hand before wrapping the cuts up with bandages, the swelling and bruising on her hand already appearing. 'Maybe we should take you to see a doctor' Veronica said concerned. 'I'm fine' Cheryl mumbled.

'Cheryl you need to tell me what's going on, I can't help you unless I know. No running away. Were you seeing Madison while you was in a relationship with Toni?' Veronica tried to be a little sterner, she hoped a little tough love would work. 'I love Toni, I would never do that!' the redhead said frustrated. 'Then tell me why she was here' Veronica demanded. 'I didn't even know she was coming, there was a knock at my door and it was Madison. She apologised for everything that had happened and said she was leaving the city. She had left a few things here that she wanted so I invited her to wait in the hallway while I went upstairs. When I came back downstairs I gave them back to her. But just as Toni opened the door, Madison was leaning in towards me, I don't know why but I just froze and Toni left' Cheryl let the tears flow not even bothering to wipe them away. 'I'm sorry Cheryl but I'm sure we can get Toni to listen and understand' Veronica said sympathetically. Cheryl just shook her head 'no, I chased after her and tried to explain but when I asked Madison to back me up she said I was lying and that she had warned Toni I was going to do this. Toni believed her V, I could see it in her eyes, she doesn't want anything to do with me' Cheryl sobbed at the last part. Veronica on the other hand was fuming 'that bitch, so what are you going to do?'. 'Nothing, I've text her and she hasn't replied, I'm not going to force her to talk to me. She doesn't trust me and she ended our relationship, that was her choice. Plus I don't want Tommy to see us arguing'. 'I'm sure you'll work it out but for now I'm going to stay here with you' Veronica said. 'No that's not necessary, you have your own life' Cheryl said pulling a facial wipe from her vanity draw and cleaning the smudged make up from her face. 'Well I'm definitely staying here tonight' Veronica stated 'no argument'.
