Fifty Four

It had been just over a month since Cheryl had come home and around 9 weeks since the accident. She had an appointment today at the hospital for some scans and to see how much her bones had healed. Toni was obviously going to go with her but it was going to be a long day so she had asked Sweet Pea and Fangs to watch Tommy for the couple. Cheryl couldn't take being cooped up in her bedroom anymore after a week and got a stair lift installed so she could get up and down with the help of Toni. The redhead still had her insecure days but Toni reassured her every time with love and affection. Toni hoped for the sake of her girlfriend that the redheads bones were at least healing so they had a timeframe of how long her casts would be on. The shorter woman could tell Cheryl was getting nervous about her appointment but she told her everything would be fine.

After dropping Tommy off with her brothers Toni drove to the hospital. She gave Cheryl's hand a squeeze before she got out of the car, going into the trunk and pulling out her wheelchair. Due to being a somewhat expert on putting this particular wheelchair up and taking it down now she had it ready in a few minutes. She carefully lifted Cheryl from the car and into the chair before shutting the door. Toni could tell how nervous Cheryl was on the drive there but she didn't say anything since she didn't want to make her anxiety worse. 'Okay babe, let's see what the doctors have to say' Toni smiled as she kissed her lips before moving around to the back of the chair and pushing her towards the hospital entrance.

They didn't have to wait long until a nurse came out to greet them. 'Ms Blossom if you could both just follow me the doctor is ready to see you'. Toni pushed Cheryl following the nurses lead to the doctors office. She knocked on the door and when she received an answer she opened it, holding it open for Toni to wheel in Cheryl. 'Ms Blossom, how have you been feeling?' he asked as Toni took a seat. 'Honestly I can't wait to get these off' she said looking down at her casts. He nodded in understanding. 'And your head? Have you been suffering from headaches or nausea?'. 'I've had a headache every now and again but nothing more than normal' she answered. 'Okay, I'm going to take a look at the scarring on your head first to see how it is healing, if that's alright?'. Cheryl nodded as she pulled her hair over to one side revealing the scar. Toni reached over and gave her hand a small squeeze with a smile. The doctor stood up and inspected it 'yes, that's healed nicely Ms Blossom' he took his seat again 'okay so first we will send you for a brain scan to make sure nothings changed and everything's as it should be and then we will check the broken bones'. He typed away on his computer as Cheryl looked at Toni. 'You'll be okay babe, I'm right here okay?' Toni whispered, Cheryl nodded turning her attention back to the doctor as he spoke.

Soon enough a nurse was taking Cheryl to have a MRI scan, Toni was allowed in the room to support the redhead. When it was done Toni could literally feel Cheryl's hands trembling as the nurse took them to the fracture waiting room. 'The doctor will look over your scans while you have your casts removed so your bones can be X-rayed Ms Blossom, when they are done with you here I'll be back to collect you'. Cheryl only nodded at the nurse, her body already tired. 'Are you okay baby?' Toni asked now that they were alone in the waiting room. 'I'm scared TT, what if they missed something with my brain last time' Cheryl whispered fear shining through her eyes. 'I'm sure that won't happen babe but if it does, me and everyone else is here for you. You're not going through this alone okay?' Toni kissed her cheek as another nurse approached them. 'Ms Blossom we're ready for you now' the nurse smiled. Again Toni followed the nurse as she pushed Cheryl in her wheelchair. They entered a room where the redhead was transferred from the wheelchair to a bed. 'Okay Ms Blossom, my understanding is that you had cracked ribs, a broken arm and a broken leg. We will remove the casts first and then go from there okay' the doctor was very sweet and it helped Cheryl slightly calm down as she nodded.

Cheryl gripped Toni's hand while the doctor used the small electric saw to remove the casts. First her arm and then her leg, it felt pretty weird for the redhead though and she had lost all her muscle on both of her limbs. 'Okay Ms Blossom, I'll check the ribs first, then your arm and lastly your leg. Please try not to move too much and if there's any pain or discomfort let me know right away'. Cheryl nodded her understanding as she braced herself. He started by gently pressing on her ribs, the redhead didn't feel any sort of pain. He then went on the check her arm, the scars completely healed from the surgery where they had to correct the break. Cheryl didn't feel any pain with her arm either only a little discomfort. Her leg though caused her enough pain for her to have to ask the doctor to stop. Same as her arm, the scars had healed up but unfortunately it didn't seem like the bone had yet. 'Okay we just need to take you for your X-ray, your partner needs to wait here but we won't be long' the nurse smiled. Cheryl reluctantly let go of Toni's hand as she was wheeled away.

Toni felt like she had been waiting forever until the redhead was brought back to her. She settled down though when she saw Cheryl coming back towards her. 'We'll be back out to speak to you once we've looked at the scans, please give us a moment'. 'How was that?' Toni asked her girlfriend. 'Not too bad' Cheryl looked down at her bare arm and leg 'look at the scars Toni, they're horrific'. 'No baby they're not, every part of you is beautiful okay?' Toni hushed. 'I hate this' Cheryl said frustrated 'I just want to be fixed'. 'I know Cher but you're getting there' Toni smiled. After around fifteen minutes the doctor and nurse came back into the room, the doctor taking a seat at his desk. 'So Ms Blossom, the X-rays show that your ribs have healed as well as the broken bones in your arm. The femur, the bone at the top part of your leg has completely healed thanks to the metal rod we put in during your surgery but the Tibia is still healing even with the metal rods. So we will put a cast on your lower leg just to help that heal properly, it'll perhaps take around a month or so'. Cheryl nodded 'thank you doctor' it was better news than she was expecting, at least her leg wouldn't have to be sticking out in front of her all the time.

Once the new cast was put on Cheryl's lower leg, the doctor put her arm in a sling, he had shown Toni how to do it correctly to be mostly used while the redhead slept. He gave her a few sheets of exercises to do too to help recreate the muscle she had lost in her arm, she was also advised to consult a physical therapist especially for when her leg had healed so she could learn to walk properly again. All she had left to do now was get her results from the other doctor about her brain scan and she could go home. The nurse collected her from the fracture waiting room where she had left them earlier to take her back to the originals doctors office, this was the most important part, her quality of life could be affected if there's something wrong. Luckily they didn't have to wait for the doctor, he was ready and waiting for them in his office. He smiled at the couple as they came back into the room and waited for Toni to take a seat. 'So Ms Blossom, I have checked over your scans multiple times and I happy to tell you everything is looking normal, there's no sign of anything changing now so unless you get more headaches than normal you shouldn't need to see me again'. Both Cheryl's and Toni's bodies visibly relaxed, both of them relieved that the redhead was fine and healthy. 'Thank you so much doctor' Cheryl breathed feeling a weight lifting from her shoulders.

Toni got Cheryl into the car and it was a lot easier now than it was getting her in that morning. Toni sat down in the drivers seat 'how do you feel babe?'. 'Happy, relieved and thankful to the doctors and to you. I couldn't have gotten through this without you Toni, I love you so much' Cheryl smiled. 'I love you' Toni grinned leaning across and kissing her girlfriends lips. 'Tommy will be happy to see you with just a small cast on your leg now, he'll know you're getting better' Toni smiled pulling the car from the parking space and setting off to her brothers apartment to collect Tommy. Cheryl called Sweet Pea asking him to bring Tommy downstairs for when they arrived so they could go straight home, the redhead was exhausted and just wanted to sleep. Sweet Pea happily agreed and was waiting outside of the building when the couple arrived, he opened the door greeting his sister and her girlfriend while strapping Tommy into his seat. He asked about Cheryl before the couple thanked him for looking after Tommy. They headed home, the redhead wanting nothing more than to crawl into bed right now and get some rest.
