LXXVIII

'I see one suspicious move, and you're dead. Got it?' Jaemin said in Chenle's ear.

The human tensed up at those words and instinctively stepped back until he felt the cold wall against his back. Jisung was not so far away, talking to Jeno, and Jaemin had used this opportunity to have a friendly talk with Chenle.

'Why the sudden change, human?' Jaemin questioned.

Chenle hesitated, but he gathered the courage to answer without stuttering.

'I don't owe you any explanation, vampire.' He sassed back.

Jaemin punched the wall right next to Chenle's head, he knew if he hit the human Jisung would not forgive him. Chenle flinched at the action but remained quiet.

'If you mess with Ji once more, I'll end you. You're such a toxic person and I don't want you around him, but since he's so attached to you I'll give you a second opportunity. But I swear to God, I see a single tear from Jisung because of you and you won't see the daylight again.' Afterwards he turned around and approached Jeno, who was talking to Jisung.

'Okay, so I just have to tell Taeyong to come with me and I keep him and his boyfriends entertained for about two hours.' Jeno told Jisung. He then felt a pair of arms sneaking around his waist. 'Jaemin, baby.'

'You sure we should help them, Nono?' Jaemin said in a sweet tone, despite be glaring at Chenle who'd come to hear the conversation as well.

'Yeah, I'm sure. Jisung told me everything and I think they must have changed after all that.'

Yangyang dropped on the floor after seeing Jaehyun leaving the room. He was panting heavily and his body was covered in sweat.

His whole body hurt, but especially his legs. He felt he wouldn't be able to get up for the next days. Without noticing, tears started rolling down his cheeks and staining the shirt he was wearing. He wiped them with the back of his hand.

He'd spent about three hours running after, more like being dragged by, Jaehyun. The vampire had leashed him and made him run in circles around the garden after having fed him forcefully.

'If you don't eat you'll get skinny, but if you eat and don't exercise you'll get fat. So you better move your ass before we throw you away. None of us likes fat food.'

Jaehyun was way faster than him, he was a vampire, and he could perfectly run for so many hours. However, Yangyang had trouble following him and his leash was tugged several times for not being able to keep up with Jaehyun's rhythm.

Someone came into the room while he was zoning out, he then realised who the intruder was.

'Yuhkei..?' He looked at the vampire tiredly, hoping it wasn't Lucas.

'Yes, it's me...' Yukhei answered before crouching down next to Yangyang.

Yangyang got up, ignoring the pain on his limbs, and threw himself in Yukhei's arms, crying like a child in the vampire's shoulder.

Yukhei caressed his back in a reassuring manner. He felt awful for having Yangyang there, but he didn't know how to free him.

'W-why are you here?' The human asked in between sobs.

'Taeyong told me it was my turn to drink...'

Yangyang then detached himself from Yukhei and exposed his neck to him. It had several marks already for each time a vampire had drunk some blood from him.

Yukhei shook his head.

'No, Yangyang. If I do that you might die...'

'I don't care anymore...'

'I don't want you to die, though...'

'What if we get in trouble for not doing it?' Yangyang asked, desperation visible in his eyes.

'We'll tell Taeyong I did drink blood, don't worry about it. I want to get you out of here, I just don't know how to...'

'It's fine... I'd rather stay here than be where we were before.' Yangyang reassured the taller.

'Why haven't you tried talking to him?' Yukhei asked.

'What do you mean?'

'I know you're very good with words, why haven't you tried convincing him to let you go?'

'I don't want to... You know, I learned all that from Chittaphon. I know I used to manipulate everyone with my words, but it just feels so wrong now... I feel guilty enough for all the vampires and even humans I've interrogated in my life. It used to be funny, but now... They're right to hate me, I would hate me too if I was in their place.' Yangyang said, looking down.

And it was completely true. He wanted to leave that stage of his life behind. He realised how badly he'd used his speech skills.

'But it's not your fault, Yangyang. You were doing what Chittaphon told you to do, you were just a tool!'

'So what if I was a tool? That doesn't make me a victim. Follower or leader, I'll have to pay for the consequences anyways. Chittaphon was the one to tell me what to do, yes, but I was the one who did it. I voluntarily chose to do that. Was I doing it to impress Chittaphon? Partly, but that doesn't give me the right to blame him for everything. I was cruel because back then it felt good, because I thought that was happiness. But I swore to myself that in the moment I stepped out of that building I would stop trying to manipulate others like puppets.'

'You've matured a lot, Yangyang'

'Stop it, Yukhei. You're sounding old.'

'But it's true. About a year ago you would have laughed at me if I'd told you you would say those words. Do you remember how we used to be? Such careless monsters, we actually thought we were heroes.'

'I used to laugh at the vampires we locked in a cage, and now the vampires are laughing at me. Ironic, isn't it? That feeling of fake happiness... It was barely weeks ago, yet it feels like a blurry memory.'

The door being opened harshly made both of them flinch, interrupting their deep talk.

'My turn. You, get out.' Jungwoo said, pointing at Yukhei.

The taller nodded and waved goodbye to Yangyang. The bit of happiness that had sparkled in Yangyang's eyes as he talked to Yukhei disappeared in an instant, making Yukhei feel guilty for leaving him alone with the other vampire.

okay so i know that isn't really relevant but I just finished writing the end of this story (which I still haven't uploaded, this chapter is not the last one dw) and now I'm sad :')

not because of the ending but because I spent so many hours writing this and ending it is just jsdbkdhdjd
