XLIV

Donghyuck kicked a random rock that was on the garden and watched it land a few meters away. Thanks to the blood Taeyong had provided him with earlier his sight was completely restored and his throat didn't hurt anymore, although he still had trouble talking.

He was wandering around the garden, lost in his thoughts until he felt a pair of arms wrapping around his waist. He was about to slap those hands away until he smelt that familiar aroma he'd been longing for what seemed like an eternity.

Mark.

Donghyuck turned around and buried his face in Mark's shoulder, eyes teary once again. This time, though, it was out of happiness.

Mark let his lover let it all out and caressed his back softly, mumbling 'I missed you' repeatedly and holding Donghyuck like they hadn't seen each other in years.

'Y-you're back...' Donghyuck said. His voice was quite aphonic and it made him sound so fragile Mark couldn't help but be worried about him.

'Baby, what happened to your voice?'

'I-it's nothing... L-let's go inside.' Donghyuck coughed a couple of times before holding Mark's hand and heading inside Taeyong's house.

Chenle's intention wasn't to hear their conversation. However, their voices were so loud and the room was so silent at some point he couldn't help but listen.

'They still have Johnny?!' One of the vampires said.

'Yeah, he's still there. I'm worried, though. They treat him like a slave. I don't know what got into him, he will obey a human named 'Ten' like  fucking pet.' Chenle supposed that was Mark's voice. He hadn't heard it many times before, but judging by his words that was the vampire they'd kept in the lab.

'Johnny??? A pet???'

'I was kinda surprised at first too... I don't know what they did to him, but he refused to leave because he wanted 'Ten' to come with us. I still don't get it. Those humans...'

'What did they do?'

'They physically tortured us every fucking day. I felt like a lab rat, for real. You see this?' Silence for a while. And moments later, he heard several gasps.

'T-they did this to you?!'

'Yeah... But Johnny is worse. He has wounds all over his chest. The humans also forced us to eat human food.'

'But that's extremely dangerous!'

'I know! Every time I threw up they made me drink something weird. It was different every time and it tasted horribly.'

'Those fucking humans... I swear to god I will-'

'Taeyong, calm down.'

'How can I fucking calm down?! Johnny is still with them. He's probably being fed that nasty ass shit humans eat and they're literally ripping his skin off and playing with his internal organs. What, do we wait until they fucking rape him?!'

'Well, about that-' Mark intervened.

'Don't fucking tell me they... They did that to him?!'

'N-not really, it was with consent I think...'

'Huh?'

Mark whispered something Chenle could understand properly.

'jOHNNY HAD HIS DICK UP THAT TEN GUY'S ASS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU?!' Another voice yelled a top of his lungs.

'You- You didn't have to say it like that!' Mark protested. 'My point is, those humans are the true monsters. We may be vampires, but we should have rights too, y'know? They're psychopaths. They have no empathy at all.'

Chenle stopped paying attention after hearing that.

Monsters? Are we monsters? No way... But... We're doing this to protect ourselves, right? There's nothing wrong with what we do. Yeah, we're doing this for our own defence.

That was an internal debate that had been bothering him for a few days now. Was he wrong? No. He wasn't. Vampires hurt him in the past. He had the right to do what he was doing because it was his only way to survive, right?

'I'm so fucking done. I don't want to hear anything else.'

'Wait, Taeyong, where are you going?'

'Don't fucking follow me, Jisung!'

Chenle heard yells from outside the room and a few moments later Taeyong was inside the room fuming in anger.

Taeyong saw the food on the floor and internally gagged.

Fucking gross.

He picked up the plate and approached the human.

'Eat.'

Chenle's back was leaning on the headboard. He ignored Taeyong's words and didn't move a muscle.

'I fucking said eat!'

Taeyong saw Chenle had no intention of eating, so he grabbed his jaw and forced his mouth open.

'Listen here, you little bitch. You're a fucking nuisance, but Jisung wants you alive. He went through a lot of shit, because of you. You don't even have the right to die, got it? Now eat. Whore.' Taeyong used the fork to shove food down Chenle's throat, almost making him gag.

Chenle wanted to puke, but Taeyong saw his intentions and covered his mouth with his hand.

'Don't you fucking spit it out. Look, Jisung might be soft for you, but I'm not. You have 206 bones in total and I'm not afraid of breaking some of them. Swallow it. Swallow it like the slut you are.'

Chenle barely had time to swallow the food and Taeyong was already putting more food in his mouth.

'I don't know who the fuck you think you are. You played with Yuta's heart and you're playing with Jisung's now. You probably have played with a shit lot of vampires before, haven't you? Nasty.' Taeyong kept rambling and forcefully feeding Chenle. 'What? You're crying now? Serves you right. You don't know how much Jisung cried because of you. I hear him every night eversince you came here. He cried like a baby when you killed his brother. I keep insisting on getting rid of you, but he won't listen. It's almost like he's under a spell.'

Once the plate was empty Taeyong handed Chenle a glass of water, which the younger took with shaking hands.

'Drink.' He didn't have to say it twice. Chenle was so scared of Taeyong he didn't dare disobeying this time. 'I don't know why he pities you, honestly. You're much more of a monster than he could ever be.'

And with that, Taeyong left the room. Chenle's tears streamed down his cheeks. Why did it hurt so much? Why did Taeyong's words hurt so much?

Why is he talking while he knows nothing? Jisung is a monster. He's a vampire, after all.
