I zone out for the entire drive to the church. I'm not sure if I'm ready to be swarmed with apologies and hugs. Some of the people who are going to be there are people I haven't seen in a long time, and the rest are probably going to be people I don't even know.
My parents were both only children and both their parents passed away a few years ago. I've never really met any of my other relatives. My moms mother had a sister so I assume her children, or my second cousins, or whatever you call them will be there. Dad's parents had siblings too, but I've never met any of them.
"We're here." Garret stops the car and pulls out the keys. He shoves them in his pocket and looks at me thoughtfully.
"What?" I frown.
"I've never noticed how pretty you are." He half smiles.
"Thanks." I blush. "You're not too overly ugly yourself." I playfully slap his shoulder.
"Thanks." He mocks me. It's true though. In a non-creepy, sisterly way, I have to admit that Garret is pretty attractive.
I step out of the car and take in a deep breath of the cool January air. I take my time to prepare myself before I walk over to Garret. I link my arm with his and we walk up the front of the church. The tall wooden doors compliment the brown bricks that the building is made of. Garret uses his free hand to push open a door. The white decor on the inside is beautiful, yet subtle."Macie? Garret?" A female voice gasps. "My babies! You're all grown up!" I detach my eyes from viewing the set up to see a tall, spunky blonde standing in a dark blue dress and black heels. Her brown eyes are soft and glossy, despite the funeral haven't even staring.
"Tamil!" Garret and I both say at the same time. We run up to her and all embrace each other in a hug.
"You kids looks so lovely." She smiles delicately. Tamil moved to New Jersey with her husband Anthony a few years ago, so we haven't seen her for quite some time, although mom went to visit her every now and then.
"Thanks. So do you." I reply. "Are Anthony and Sammy here?" I ask. Sammy is her first and only daughter.
"They'll be here soon." Before we can get into a deeper conversation, a slim man in a white dress shirt and black pants walks out. The slight brown stubble on his chin mismatches the bright pink of his hair. His green eyes clash nicely causing the effect of a watermelon.
"Tyler!" I turn to hug him. The last time I saw Tyler was about a year ago when we lived in Mississippi. "Or should I say Lava Girl." I flick a piece of his hair with my finger.
"You like it?" He raises his eyebrows.
"Love it!" I giggle. I've always absolutely adored Tyler. He's so fun and cute and just a wonderful person to be around. I wish he would come to visit more often. Him, Tamil and Brian are the closet things I have to family other than Garret and my parents. "Where's Brian?" I ask.
"He's setting up the speakers. He'll probably be out in a few minutes."
"Oh. Okay."
"Anyways... Omg, Macie guess what?!" He squeals with excitement.
"What?" A smile returns to my face at the way he childishly claps his hands together.
"I'm moving into one of the new condos they're building a couple blocks away from your school!"
"OMG! YAY!" He grabs my hands and we jump up and down together.
"What are you two going off about?" Brian casually walks out of nowhere and dusts off his dark purple dress shirt. His curly brown hair is styled to look very professional and his matching brown eyes twinkle. Brian still lives in Mississippi with his wife Natasha.
"Tyler's moving here!" I smile as he opens his arms and I hug him. "Are Natasha and the kids here?" I ask. Brian's has 2 sons, Aidan being the oldest, and Coulter being two years younger.
"They'll be arriving shortly. I came early to help set up."
"Speaking of all this talk about significant others, words out that you've got yourself a boyfriend?" Tyler nudges my arm and Tamil whips around, breaking her conversation with Garret.
"Boyfriend?" Her eyes widen and she smiles widely.
"So who is the lucky guy?" Brian smirks and nods at me.
"Ugghhh..." I sigh and Tyler nudges me again. "Fine. His name's Danny." I finally admit.
"Oooooh! Is this Danny boy going to be making an appearance today?" Tamil wiggles her eyebrow.
"Yes, but please don't be weird." I beg, already knowing how this is going to go down.
"Weird? Us?" Tyler acts offended and everyone laughs. The normality of this conversation causes me to temporarily forget where we are, and why we're here.
"Garret you could use some dating lessons from your sister. You haven't had a girlfriend in like what... Eighteen years?" Brian teases.
"Two actually." Garret defends his pride. "And for the record, I broke up with her 'cause she was clingier than a dryer sheet."
"Sure, sure." Brian pats his shoulder and Garret rolls his eyes.
"We should get out of sight before everyone starts showing up." Tyler says, checking the gold watch around his wrist. We all agree and follow him into a large white room. The room contained 3 long brown couches and a white board.
"Ooooh! Y'all know what this means!" I gesture towards the clean board.
"Hangman!" Tamil smiles as her and the others sit down and I pick up a blue marker.

DANNYS POV
I slow down in front of the church. The parking lot is crowded so I end up having to park on the street. Paul, Teala and I all step our of the vehicle and walk up to the doors. The large door makes a sound when I open it, to see a few people heading into the main part of the church and a tall, blonde woman standing next to a wooden stand with a guest book rested on top of it.
"Hi, welcome. I'm Tamil, and you are?" She introduces herself with a smile.
"Teala."
"Paul."
"Danny." We all say our own names.
"We're friends of Macie and Garret." Teala says sweetly.
"Oh, yes! I've heard so much about you... Good things don't worry." She winks at me. "Please, come in. I'll get you all seated." She leads us into the church. The pews are crowded with people, some of who are already teary eyed. Two long, dark brown coffins lay on tables at the front. "Here you go." She escorts us into a bench near the front. Paul sits on the end, Teala in the middle, and I end up sitting next to two dark haired boys and a woman with the same black mane.
"Coulter, shut up." One of the boys says to the other, who rolls his eyes. "Know what, actually pass me that bible."
"Why?" The boy, Coulter asks.
"So I can hit you with it."
"Shh. Aidan, stop threatening to hit your brother with the word of The Lord." The woman speaks. I laugh slightly and she notices, but just smiles. "Sorry. They don't know how to behave themselves. I'm Natasha." She announces herself to me. Her sons both wave slightly, then look down at their laps.
"Danny." I tell her.
"So how did you know Shea and Derek?" She asks. It's weird hearing their names now that they're gone.
"I'm, uh... I'm Macies boyfriend." I say awkwardly.
"Wait, you're Macies boyfriend?" A blonde haired girl from the bench behind me leans forward.
"Uh... Ya." I feel so uncomfortable right now.
"Aw! I'm Sammy. Macies cousin. Well, basically cousin. Not really. You see, my mom was her moms best friend and..."
"Sammy hush." The man next to her, who I assume is her father nudges Sammy. "I'm Anthony." He quickly introduces himself.
"Danny." I repeat before my attention is drawn to Tamil escorting more people in. I hope Macies doing okay.
