MACIES POV
Both of us stop and stare at each other before turning our heads and looking at the smiling face of the man standing behind us.
"Rick?" I grin and slowly approach him. "Oh my gosh! How are you?"
"I'm good. How about you two?"
"Great! We're actually just heading home from a school dance." I look at Danny to see a confused look plastered across his face.
"Macie, how do you know Rick?"
"I met him one day when we were fighting. He said that he knew you."
"Ya, I uh, talked to him the first time we broke up." Danny nervously laughs.
"Small world." Rick shrugs. He looks much better than the last time I saw him. His clothes are clean, he smells of cologne and he appears to be recently showered. Danny let's his arm fall from my shoulders and grabs my hand instead.
"So what's going on here?" Danny smiles and gestures towards Ricks attire.
"I got a job! Not too far from here actually. I've been working at a little coffee shop. The owners are really nice and they've been renting out the room above the store to me for cheap." Ricks face beams with happiness and I can't help but feel happy for him as well.
"Have you pulled through on our deal?" Danny whispers, even though I can still clearly hear him. Rick sucks in a deep breath and his smile grows even wider.
"Yes. This morning actually. I called and talked to Linda. She wasn't mad, in fact, she was delighted to hear my voice. I even spoke to the girls." He sighs and looks off into the distance for a few seconds before continuing. "As soon as I get enough money, I'm buying a plane ticket and heading home." I look at Danny to see the small smile on his face. I can't resist with all the joy going around.
"I'll pay for your plane ticket." I offer. Rick and Danny both look at me with utter shock and confusion.
"Oh no Miss Macie! I couldn't possibly have you do that! That's just too much!"
"It's honestly not though! Now that I have an income from YouTube and the record label, I've got plenty of money to spare. Please Rick, let me do this for you."
"I simply couldn't Miss Macie! I'd never be able to repay you!"
"You wouldn't have to! Rick, I'm doing this because I want to. You don't need to owe me anything, I just want to be able to help bring a family back together."
"Are you sure?"
"Positive."
"Thank you so much Miss Macie!" Rick shakes my hand enthusiastically, almost tearing up with pure joy.
"I'll send you the money, you'll just have to figure out the rest."
"Will do. Thank you so much once again. I wish both of you the best of luck in life."
"You too." Danny nods. Rick shakes both our hands one last time before letting go and shooting another grin. "And hey... Uh, thanks for helping us out. I probably wouldn't be with the girl of my dreams right now if it weren't for you."
"No problem. I hope to see you both in the future. Goodbye!"
"Bye!" We wave and head off in our separate directions. Danny replaces his arm around my shoulder and kisses my cheek. It's strange to think how different things could be if that once homeless man had never approached me on the streets. What if I'd have never gotten back together with Danny?
"That was a really nice thing you did, Mace. I'm proud of you."
"It's just money. Bedsides, he needs it a lot more than I do."
