DANNYS POV
We follow the crowd into a gym scattered with tables. I look around for Macie and Garret, but they're nowhere to be seen in the huge swarm of people. I assume they're way at the back being hugged and cried on by everyone. I can't help but chuckle slightly at the thought of Macie receiving hugs from all these people. She hates physical contact with others.
"Should we go look for Garret and Macie?" Teala asks Paul and I.
"Ya probably." Paul answers. We approach the back of the crowd and try to gently push our way though to the front.
"This is like a fucking mosh pit, but without the music and full of tissues and tears." I accidentally say my thought out loud causing the two boys beside me to laugh. They were the two boys who I was sitting next to earlier and threatened to hit each other with bibles.
"Not my ideal way to spend a Saturday, but for sure a close second." One jokes. "I'm Aidan." He reaches out to shake my hand. "Garret and Macies, Mom and Dads, friends kid." I laugh at his confident tone and shake his hand.
"I'm Danny." I look towards the other kid who looks to be almost the same age. He couldn't be more than a year or two younger.
"Coulter." He nods, keeping his hands in his pockets.
"Danny, c'mon!" Teala pats my arm.
"Well it was nice meeting you. See ya around probably. Bye." I wave and follow Teala and Paul to the front.
There she is. Standing in her laced black dress and blue converse, uncomfortably accepting a hug from an old woman. It's been a week since I've seen Macie in person. That's seven days too many. The lady pulls away from the hug and I take the chance to run up to her.
"Hey." I smile. She doesn't say anything before colliding her body with mine and wrapping her arms around the back of my neck. I kiss the top of her head and hold her close. The feeling of being able to physically touch her again is amazing.
"I missed you so much, I'm so sorry for pushing you away." She whispers into my chest.
"It's okay. I missed you too." She removes her arms from around my neck and replaces them around my torso.
"Thanks for coming."
"Of course. I wouldn't miss it for the world." I brush as piece of hair behind her ear. She's so pretty and so much happier and full of life than she was the last time that I saw her. "I really want to kiss you right now, but that'd be really weird because there's like fifty people behind me." She giggles and stands on her tip toes to quickly peck my lips, regardless of what I just said."They'll live." She smiles.
"Macie?" Teala asks. I let go of Mace so that her and Teala can hug. Paul walks up and hugs her as well, while I go talk to Garret.
"Hey Danny." He smiles. "So I heard you beat the shit out of Drew."
"Nah, I just punched him." We both laugh.
"I hate him so much." Garret sighs with a smile.
"Me too." I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Well I should probably get back to hugging people. Are you guys coming to the burial after?"
"Ya."
"I guess I'll see you there then."
"Okay, bye." Garret and I awkwardly hug and I see Macie laugh at me out of the corner of my eye. I smile at her before heading off to join Paul and Teala.
"I feel really bad." Teala sighs as we sit at an empty table.
"It's okay. It's not your fault." Paul tries to comfort her. My mind thinks back to the day that it happened. The broken look on Macies beautiful face is something that I will never be able to forget, no matter how hard I try.
