DANNYS POV
I help Macie to her feet and watch as she brushes herself off.
"What're you doing all the way out here in the rain?" I pick up her purse from the ground and hand it to her.
"I... It's not important. Thanks." She grabs the bag and nods her head. She's barefoot and carrying her shoes in her hand, looking absolutely drenched and miserable. I know this is a long shot, but maybe if I just offer...
"Do you want a ride home?" She looks me up and down quickly before replying."
"Yes please." Macie almost sobs. I just want to hold her in my arms and make her feel better, but I know that isn't going to be happening anytime soon. I open the passenger seat of the car for her to get in and run around to the drivers side. The smile that forces it's way onto my face is uncontrollable due to the memories of when I first met Macie.
"At least this wasn't as bad as last time." I joke, putting the car back in drive.
"You're an awful driver, I hope you know that." She laughs. My smile grows even more at the sweet, sweet sound of her laughing.
"So what were you doing all the way over here anyways?" I turn on the windshield wipers.
"I had a date with Drew."
"Oh." The words still crush me. No matter how many times I hear them, each will only be worse than the last. "How... Uh... How'd it go?"
"Fucking terrible." My smile returns.
"What happened?"
"It doesn't matter." She turns to look out her window. I miss the days when I would catch her staring at me while I was driving.
"Sorry."
"For what?"
"That I asked."
"It's okay. I just don't really wanna talk about it." Macie whispers. I can tell that she's really upset and it hurts so much knowing that I can't help her. The sharp rain pounds loudly on the outside of the car, creating noise to fill the silence on the inside.
"So, you..."
"I don't really wanna talk right now."
"Oh. Okay." I bite my lip to keep myself from saying everything that I wish I could say to her. I notice a small red light flash from behind my steering wheel. Oh shit. I swear if...
"What happened?" Macie looks at me as the car slows down. I pull over and use up the last bit of energy to park my car on the side of street.
"Shit!" I hit my hands against the steering wheel. "I forgot to get gas!" She stays calm as I search for my phone to call someone. "Fuck! I left my phone at home!" I scold myself for being so stupid. "Can I borrow yours?"
"It's dead." She whispers. I open my door and wait for her as she hesitates before doing the same. The rain has lightened up slightly, but that doesn't affect the fact that it's cold out and Macies only got a short dress on.
"Here." I pull off my hoodie and hand it to her. She stares at me like I just insulted her before slowly retrieving the sweater from my grasp. "It's freezing out."
"Thanks." She nods and pulls it over her head. I missed seeing her wearing my clothes.
"Want me to walk you home?"
"No, it's okay."
"Well that sucks 'cause I'm walking you home wether you like it or not." I lock the car and join her on the sidewalk. I'll come get my car tomorrow morning.
