Chapter 66

MACIES POV

Danny holds the door open for me as I step inside. I keep his hand held with mine as I take in the view of what would usually be just the bland hallway of the school. White and purple streamers are strung across the ceiling, along with the same colored balloons littering the air. Smiling faces greet us as we make our way to the gym. Couple after couple all dressed up in their best attire, line the path giving off the same aura of excitement.

Danny hands our tickets to the people running the ticket stop and pulls me forward. We pass by the long line of kids waiting to get their picture taken and enter the crowded gymnasium, stocked full of people, decorations, tech equipment and tables. Loud music pumps through the speakers spread out around the large room and I take a few seconds to let everything soak in.

"Let's go dance." Danny pulls me into his chest and kisses my nose, before leading me further into the crowd. I would usually feel uncomfortable being surrounded by so many people, but as long as Danny's here with me I try not to mind.

"Wait... If this is the song that I think it is..." I stop moving for a second and listen to the first few notes of Faithfully by Journey.

"Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind"

"Are you okay Mace?" Danny wipes his thumb across my cheek, collecting the tear that I was not aware had fallen.

"Ya. This song just brings back a lot of memories." I laugh and wipe under my own eyes, carful not to smudge my makeup. "Good memories."

"Well then, may I have this dance?" Danny holds his hand out for me to grab and bows slightly.

"You're such a fucking goofball." I take his hand and follow him into the middle of the dance floor. I wrap my arms loosely around his shoulders as he sets his hands on my waist.

"Ain't always what it's supposed to be

I'm forever yours
Faithfully"

Danny looks into my eyes and flashes one of his signature, breathtaking smiles. I'll never get over the way his every action makes me fall in love with him all over again. He quickly flips his hair out of his face and I giggle at how cute he is. I lean forward and peck his dimple, causing another smile to make its way across his face. Danny slowly pulls me in closer so that the space between us becomes nonexistent and leans down, pulling my mouth up to his. He keeps his hand gently caressing the side of my face as the soft, slow kiss happens in the middle of a crowd of people.

"I'm forever yours
Ever yours
Faithfully"

The song comes to an end and I pull away as a more upbeat tune starts playing.

"Wanna go get something to drink?"

"Sure." I smile and grab Danny's hand. The night has barely begun, but it's already off to a great start.

DANNYS POV

"I haven't been doing my homework since the beginning of the semester and even I'm still passing!" Ben laughs and brings his drink up to his mouth. Macie went to the bathroom a while ago and still hasn't returned. I'm starting to get a little worried but I know I shouldn't be. Girls always take a really long time in the bathroom, right?

"Hey, I'm gonna go see where Macie is, but I'll talk to you later."

"Alright, bye!" I wave at Ben and walk out of the gym and towards the girls washroom. The door swings open and I watch as Teala exits from it.
