I drain the water after a long while and unhurriedly take my time to wrap myself in a towel. I touch my fingertips to the cold door handle, but not before laughing at the sound of my bare, wet feet hitting the tile floor. I toss my dirty clothes into the hamper and proceed to my closet to pick out and outfit. It gets a little chilly out later in the evening so I'll just wear a pair of jeans and Garret's black Fall Out Boy hoodie that I may or may not have permanently borrowed from him. It's slightly baggy, but that's just part of the fun of wearing oversized clothing.
"Macie! I ordered pizza!" Garret yells from downstairs. My natural instincts cause me to sprint down the stairs and into the kitchen where my brother and Paul and sitting on the floor rather than at the table. Normally I would be embarrassed by having a boy seeing me makeup free and with wet hair, but it's just Paul and he's dating Teala anyways.
"Keeping it classy, are we?" I smirk as I take a seat on the floor next to them.
"I dropped the box and I didn't want to pick it up, so floor it is!" Garret smiles proudly and opens the cardboard pizza box. We all immediately reach for a slice and kick back.
"So what are you guys doing today?" I ask with a mouthful of food.
"I don't know, probably just hanging around here and playing video games. You?" Garret replies.
"I'm going to meet up with Teala at ten." I see Paul smile a little and frown at him. "What?"
"Nothing." He shakes his head and takes another bite.
"Okay... Did Garret tell you about the letter he got today?" I brush off the topic. Garret gladly swoops up the opportunity to talk about his university acceptance and Paul congratulates him. Not too long after, the pizza has completely disappeared leaving Paul to play with the little table that comes in the middle of them.
"You guys wanna watch a movie?" Paul suggests.
"Oo, Better idea! Let's watch That's So Raven!" Garret squeals and throws his hands in the air.
"YES!" Paul springs up. Him and Garret run off into the living room, leaving me to clean up. I drop the box in the recycling and poke my head into the living room.
"I'm gonna go grab my phone, be right back." I run up the stairs and grab my phone from where I left it, then return downstairs. The boys are both sitting on the couch with the first episode on pause. I sit down on the other couch and unlock my phone as the show is played. I open the messenger app and click on Drew's name.
Me: Hey✌️
I go to lock my phone again, but am surprised with an immediate reply
Drew: Hi☺️
Me: Do u possibly wanna hang out this week? I mean, it's okay if u don't want to
Drew: Ya of course! When?
I end up talking to Drew through 9 episodes of That's So Raven until realizing that the time reads 9:45. I tell him I have to go and that I'll talk to him later, then stand up and shove my phone in my pocket.
"I'm gonna go meet Tea at the park. See ya later bb's!" I wave to Paul and Garret who are both lying half on the couch and half on the floor.
"K bye. Don't get murdered or something." Garret waves me off. I roll my eyes and slip on a pair of black Vans, then head out the door. The air is less cold than I had expected, but still cool enough for the need to wear a sweater. I stick in my earbuds and play some Blink 182 as I travel the short distance between my house and the park. I lean against a tree as I wait for Teala's arrival and take out my phone to check if she texted me.
To: Teala💅
Where are u?From: Teala💅
Almost there. Just wait for me at the gazebo by the bushesTo: Teala💅
KkI make my way past the play structure and walk towards the tall, unkept bushes that shade the small wooden gazebo. From afar I can see a small light sitting on the ground, but I can't quite make out what it is? I unsurely step onto the platform and see the light coming from a lit candle sitting in the middle of a blanket, and a pizza box right next to it. Just as I'm about to step down, a hand touches my shoulder, which I assume is Teala.
"What the hell is this..." I laugh as I turn around. Shit, it's not Teala.

DANNYS POV
I've set everything up perfectly. The candle, the blanket, the pizza, now all I have to do is wait for Macie to show up. I lean back against a post that's concealed by branches and count the minutes until I hear light footsteps against the wood. She's here. My heart smiles as I step into sight to see her leaving. I nervously place my hand on her shoulder and watch as she turns around.
"What the hell is this..." She giggles, bringing her beautiful face into view. Her smile drops as soon as she sees me and her body freezes. "What're you doing?"
"I wanted to apologize for being an asshole." I offer a soft smile. The confused look remains clear on her face as I gesture for her to take a seat. She hesitates for a moment and I can tell that she wants to bolt, but instead sits down. I sit opposite from her and try my best to sound confident. "Look Mace, I'm really sorry for treating you like shit because of something that you didn't even do. I shouldn't have done that and I want you to know that I feel really bad, and I promise it'll never happen again."
"Thanks." She blinks and awkwardly pushes her hair back. "Sorry for saying all that dumb shit the other day, I was just really pissed off."
"It's okay. I deserved it." I shrug. The harder I try to make her feel comfortable, the more tension develops in the air between us. "So... Friends?" There's far too long of a pause before she takes a deep breath and replies.
"Look Danny... I just... Too much has happened between us for us to be 'just friends'." She makes eye contact only at the last two words where she uses quotation marks.
"We don't have to be 'just friends'. Macie I still-"
"I think I'm gonna go out with Drew." She looks down at her nails. What. The. Fuck. Did. She. Just. Say? I feel my heart race, my blood boil and my temper rising, but do my best to control it. For her.
"Oh." Is all I can manage to say. My vision begins to blur from the tears developing in my eyes.
"Ya."
"You mean like, as friends right? With Drew?"
"I'm gonna go on a date with him."
"Oh." I try to smile at the only girl I've ever loved. "Okay." My voice breaks away.
"I'm sorry Danny. I know you're gonna find someone who's right for you, it's just not me." She runs her small, fragile hand up and down her sleeve.
"Okay." I whisper. I know she can see the tear running down my cheek, but she makes no attempt to acknowledge it.
"Bye." She stands up and stuffs her hands in her pockets.
"Bye..." I watch as she walks across the grass and out of sight. I break down and cry for what feels like hours. My life has gone to complete shit. I've got no shot with Macie, no idea what I want to do after high school and no future plans whatsoever. I always knew Macie was out of my league but I never expected her to just walk out of my life like this.
What's supposed to happen now?
(A/N: 😏😏😏 heheheh
