Chapter 44

MACIES POV

We pull up in front of my house and I undo my seatbelt.

"Goodnight Danny."

"Goodnight Macie." I lean over to give Danny a hug.

"When do you want your sweater back?" I tug at the sleeve of his hoodie.

"Keep it." He tells me. I nod and open the car door. Danny's car drives away when I open the front door and walk inside.

"How was yours and Danny's date?" Garret asks from the couch. He's sitting with his arm around Sam who's leaning into his side.

"It wasn't a date." I cross my arms.

"You're wearing his sweater." He points out.

"Aww." Sammy squeals. I roll my eyes at them and head to to my room. I grab my phone from my purse in time to receive a text.

I go to set my phone down but pick it back up again. I haven't been on youtube in forever. I sit down on my bed and open the red youtube app. I find myself clicking on Danny and Paul's channel and going to the most recent video.

"Hey guys! So I know I haven't done something like this in a long time, but today I felt like I should. As you can probably see by the title, I'm going to be singing a cover to I won't give up by Jason Mraz. So without further delay, here we go." He picks up his guitar and begins to play. "When I look into your eyes
It's like watching the night sky
Or a beautiful sunrise
Well, there's so much they hold..."

My hand slowly rises to cover my mouth as I feel my eyes tear up. Every lyric sinks into me as a perfect representation of us.

"Well, I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up."

I watch the entire video down to the last second where the words 'subscribe for a movie date and pizza' flash across the screen. He posted this video for me. I know he did.
And I love him for it.

*Monday*

MACIES POV

I look up from my phone and glance towards the door. Class is about to start and Danny isn't here yet. I bring my attention back to Tumblr until the stool next to me is pulled out from under the table and Danny sits down. I lock my phone and giggle as he smiles at me like an idiot.

"What?" He laughs along with me.

"I liked your video."

"Thanks." He pushes his hair out of his face. "I made it for you."

"I know. Thank you." I lean over to hug him. I withdrawal and fold my hands in my lap. I can't believe I'm about to do this. "Remember the video of us singing together from way back in September?"

"Ya."

"You can post it. If you want."

"Really?" I nod my head and smile.

"Really."

"Okay. I'll post it tonight." He sets his arm on the desk and rests his chin on his hand. "What made you change your mind?"

"I don't know. My mom always encouraged me to sing but I never wanted to. I guess I just want to make her proud." I answer honestly. The bell rings and Mr. Benson stands to start the class.

...

"Amy!" I swing open the guidance office door.

"Macie!" She yells back. I throw my bag on the floor, run up to her desk and lean on my arms.

"I told Danny to post the video. The one of us singing."

"Really? I'm so proud of you Macie!" She walks around the desk and opens her arms for a hug. "Your parents would be too." She pats my back.

"I know." I smile as I pull away.

"So are you and Danny back together?" She returns to her seat and I to mine.

"No. I just want to be friends for a while. I want to make sure that everything's better first. I want to know that I can handle it."

"Of course. Hey! There were some leftover muffins in the staff room!" She pulls out 2 blueberry muffins and removes the napkin they were wrapped in. "I brought you one." She hands me with pastry. I accept, holding it in my hands. "C'mon. I know you can do it." I smile and pick off a piece, popping it into my mouth.

"Thanks."

"No problem. So how's school going?" We talk a little bit about my grades, but mainly talk shit about all the teachers and kids.

"Exactly! If they're not going to check the homework I'm not going to do it!" I stand up and grab my bag. I stayed a lot later than I usually do. It's almost 5:00.

"See you tomorrow. I wanna hear all the feedback about the video!" Amy waves as I walk out of the room.

"Kk girl, bye!" I turn around and walk down the hall. I pull out my phone and open messages

To: Danny⚓️
When are you posting

From: Danny⚓️
Does now work?

I take a deep before replying. This is finally happening.

To: Danny⚓️

Sent.

...

"Garret I'm home!" I swing the front door open and throw off my shoes. "Garret?" I walk into the living room, where a wild brother would usually be sitting on the couch playing video games, but he's absent. I move into the kitchen and see a piece of paper laid flat on the middle of the table.

"Yo fuck face,
I'm out with Sam I'll be back... eventually. Sorry I didn't text you, I didn't want to interrupt your session with Amy.

Xoxo, Gossip girl.
Fuck, I mean Garret."

I laugh at the note and go upstairs to check youtube. I open my laptop and type into the search bar. I nervously click on my subscriptions to see a new video uploaded by Exclamation Point, titled "Just Give Me a Reason [Cover]// Danny & Macie". The thumbnail shows the two of us seated together at the piano in my basement. I click the video and anxiously wait for it to load. Danny appears on the screen wearing the same red and black flannel that he was wearing at school today.

"Hey guys! So I know that we don't usually upload two days in a row, but this is a video that me and one of my best friends Macie recorded awhile ago. It took a long time to get her to allow me to post it and today she finally agreed, so here it is. Please be nice to her because she's one of my closest friends and I know that it's really hard for her to sing for others, even though she's f***ing amazing so I don't know why. Anyways, this is our cover of Just Give Me a Reason by Pink." The video switches to the footage of us. The piano plays softly and I nervously wait to hear my own voice.

"Right from the start..."
