Chapter 14

December 30

I wake up to the sound of an alarm that I don't remember setting.

"Uhh." Garret moans and rolls over. I agree, I don't want to get up either. I slap around aimlessly, searching for the clock until I realize that it's on the other side of the room. I have to get up if I want to turn it off.

I slowly stand from the bed and drag myself over to where the horrid noise is coming from. I hit the button, but am surprised when I find a note stuck to the clock.

"Get dressed and ready, then head to the kitchen." It reads.

"Garret." I whisper. I meant to say it at a louder tone but I've only just woken up and my voice is tired. "Garret!" I say louder and shake him awake.

"What?" He mumbles.

"We have to get ready and go to the kitchen." He doesn't move, so being the jerk of a sister that I am, I rip off his blankets and pull him off the bed.

"Uh. I'm awake." He groans when he hits the floor. We slowly but surely get ready and make our way down to the kitchen. On the table sit 2 plates loaded with pancakes. Garret goes straight to eating, while my attention is taken by another note stuck to the syrup.

"When your done eating, go downstairs." My stomach fills with excited butterflies. I quickly down my food and pop in some gum so I don't smell too ratchet. I toss Garret a piece as well as we walk to the basement door.

I turn the handle and flick on the lights. We begin our way down the stairs and stop when we reach the bottom.

"Happy birthday!" Everyone yells. Teala, Paul, Danny and my Parents jump out from behind the piano and make their way over to us for hugs. Above the recoding studio hangs a banner that reads "Happy 18th Birthday Garret & Macie!" Directly under the sign sit a pile of gifts addressed to Garret and I. There are balloons and streamers scattered all around the room and a few baby pictures of us together.

"Thanks so much guys." I giggle.

"Yaas!" Garret adds and we all laugh.

"Let's open your gifts!" My dad exclaims. I laugh at how excited he is and head over to the pile of presents. The first one I grab is wrapped in beautiful metallic blue paper from Teala. Garret grabs one with the same wrapping and we open them together.

"Omg thanks so much bae! I love it!" I giggle and hug her. She got me a batman onesie with a cape and Garret the same but superman. Garret joins our hug and squeezes us.
We open the rest of the presets. Garret got 2 new snapbacks from Paul, a giant teddy holding a heart from Danny that says "I <3 U", and a game boy color with multiple Pokemon games from our parents. I received a Gryffindoor robe and tie from Paul, an exclusive signed Danny Edge anchor shirt from Danny, and a $200 gift card to Hot Topic from my parents.

"I got you a gift too!" I tell Garret and he smiles.

"Ditto bruh!" He smiles back and pulls out a small black box from his back pocket. I hand him a box containing a black hoodie with the crying Kim Kardashian face, and he passes his present forward. I open it to see a small golden locket in the shape of a slice of pizza. Inside the locket is a tiny picture of when Garret and I were 2 years old. We were outside playing in the mud and we were both completely covered in filth. On the other side was a note reading,

"You're pretty cool I guess.
-Garret"

We hug each other as a flash goes off and I see my mom holding a camera.

"My babies are all grown up now." She smiles and hugs us, leading into a giant group hug. "Now who what's cake?" We run upstairs and scramble for plates. I notice that Danny isn't up yet but I choose not to worry. Right as I'm about to stuff my mouth full of cake, Danny sits on a stool away from the table with a guitar.
