Aria's POV

I stood in front of Xander's bakery and took a deep breath before walking in. I saw him standing by the counter talking to a customer and I walked towards him.

"Hi Xander." I said after the customer walked away.

"What do you want?" He asked as he wiped the counter.

"I want to know where Cassie is."

"She is with her mom, she left you a note didn't she?"

"Yes she did but I want to know where?"

He stared at me for a while before speaking up again.

"Shouldn't you be at work?"

"I should but I took the day off."

"Really, your grumpy boss agreed to give you a day off."

"Not exactly but that's not important."

I had sent Axel a message telling him I will not be attending to work today because of an emergency but as always he did not respond. I knew I was getting myself into trouble but I had to be there for Cassie, she has always been there for me and I should be there for her.

"Will you tell me where Cassie is, please?" I looked at him with pleading eyes and he sighed.

"Fine, I'll take you to her."

"What about the bakery?" I asked.

"I'll leave Stephanie incharge,  although I know she won't be able to handle it all by herself so I just told her to close up in the afternoon." He said and I nodded my head.

"So are we leaving now or....."

"Yeah, we are leaving now, just let me tell Stephanie the instructions and then we will leave." He walked towards the kitchen and I walked towards an empty table and took a seat.

I felt someone's gaze on me and Iooked to the side and saw a man seated in a corner staring at me weirdly, he quickly diverted his gaze when he saw me and pretended to read the menu.

It was so weird because I felt like I have seen him before, same thing with the taxi driver who also kept staring at me. I had a bad feeling about this.

"Shall we go?" Xander asked as he came towards me.

"Yeah yeah." I took my purse and we walked outside the bakery.

We got in Xander's car and drove off.

"How is Cassie?" I asked.

"You know Cassie, always trying to be so jovial and pretending like everything is okay, but deep down she is hurting. I wish I could do something about it but I myself I'm hopeless." He said and I could see the sadness in his eyes even though he was staring straight ahead at the road.

"How long?" I asked and he looked at in confusion before diverting his eyes towards the road again.

"Huh?" He asked.

"How long are you going to keep hiding your feelings from Cassie?" I said and he suddenly hit the breaks.

"What....who....when.... how do you know?" He asked finally finding his words.

There was honking from other vehicles behind us and I spoke up.

"Maybe you should move the car to the side then we'll talk."

He nodded and drove the car to the side and parked it in front of a hardware store.

"How do you know?" He asked and I chuckled.
