Aria's POV
"There you go." Cassie said as she helped me get up from my wheelchair to the sofa.
She then went to the kitchen and came back with a glass of water in her hands and gave it to me. She then gave me my tablets and I took them with the water.
I don't even know why I am still bothering myself to take these medicines when I am going to die anyway, I am only following the doctor's prescription because Cassie always makes sure I take my medication no matter how much I tell her that I don't want to.
Cassie came in front of me and squat so that we were on the same level.
"You are going to be okay." She said in a soft voice as she smiled.
Sadness was evident behind her smile, and I knew it was because of me. I hated seeing her like this, I hated seeing her breaking inside because of me, she was like my little sister and we had developed a very strong bond, I wish I would die sooner, that way I would be forgotten and take away the sadness from her.
Just then the doorbell rang and Cassie stood up to go get it, at the back of my head I think I knew who it was, I had been expecting him to show up.
Cassie came back to the living room with Axel trailing behind her.
"You have a visitor." She said and Axel came and sat on the sofa that was facing the one I was sitting on.
"Do you need anything Axel?" Cassie asked but Axel politely declined.
There was silence in the room, the tension was very heavy and the atmosphere was suffocating. I knew why Axel was here, Cassie had already told me that she had told Axel everything, so his visit here today was something I had been expecting.
"I guess I should leave you two to talk." Cassie said before leaving the room.
There was a moment of silence before Axel spoke.
"How are you doing?"
"Great. Just waiting for death." I said casually and I noticed him flinch a bit before locking his eyes with me again.
"There is still room for improvement Aria." He said and I just stared at him.
I was trying to read what was going on in his mind. Despite him behaving like as if everything was normal, I knew he was feeling sorry for me, and I hated it.
"I know Cassie told you everything Axel, so drop the act." I said and I saw pain flashing in his eyes.
"I am not acting Aria."
"Oh really? I doubt if you would have been here if Cassie hadn't told you everything." I said and he remained silent.
I was right, he was only here because he was feeling sorry for me.
"So I'm right?" I asked in a low tone but he still remained quiet.
I took that as a sign to leave, I blinked the tears that had started forming in my eyes and slowly stood up from the couch and started heading towards my room.
"You are wrong." His voice stopped me in the middle of my tracks, my back still turned to him.
"I am here because I care about you Aria, I always have." He said and I slowly turned around to face him. He was now standing and he walked a few steps towards me, leaving just a small gap between us.
"I know that you are not going to believe me but I love you Aria, I always have and I have never stopped loving you." He said and my heart skipped a beat on hearing those words.
No Aria, focus, don't let your feelings make you get over yourself. He is only saying those words because he feeling sorry for you.
My conscious was right, Axel was only saying that because he is pitying me, he doesn't mean what he is saying.
