Avery's POV

Quinn rested her head against the table, her dark brown hair spilled off the side of the table a bit. All three of us were exhausted and I was ready to try and break out of the police station. Sawyer had earbuds in, using our phone to listen to a crime podcast or something. He's obsessed with unsolved crimes or any interesting crime story because our Papi was a police captain before he died. Papi loved to tell the three of us stories about stopping the bad guys and getting justice. Justice was something I used to believe in I don't anymore.

Dad's killer was never caught. Dianne and John and their friends tortured us every day and we never got justice. It was just some pipe dream told to children to make them feel better. The three of us knew better now but I guess for Sawyer the podcasts make him feel closer to Papi the same way learning languages does for Quinn and drawing does for me.

The door swung open and instead of the officers from before a well-dressed woman walked in holding a file. I'm betting she's from social services. "Hi guys, so my name is Melinda Wilson and I am from social services." Called it, as she spoke Sawyer took out the earbuds and listened but Quinn kept her head down. I would've thought she was sleeping but her breaths were still shallow. "Now as you know we took your DNA to see if you have any blood relatives who could take you in." I rolled my eyes. We were out up for adoption if any of our blood relatives wanted us they would've when we were babies.

"We already know that we don't have any blood relatives so where are we going now because my twins and I want to sleep." The lady sat properly in the chair across from us and I leaned towards her in a slightly aggressive posture not liking the fact that she seemed to have all the power to control what happened to us.

"Well, Avery that is not necessarily true we have been able to contact your father who has already agreed to take the three of you in. Tonight you will be staying at a hotel and then tomorrow you will be flying to New York where your father and brothers live." While this was shocking I had no intention to go along with this willingly or show her that I was surprised.

While Quinn tensed a bit and Sawyer shifted position I leaned back, "You expect us to fly across the country to live with people we have never met before." My tone was sharp. I was controlling this conversation, not her.

Her smile narrowed a bit. I guess she expected us to be excited to have a so-called father and brothers. We had a Papi. He was dead now. We are not replacing him with some random person just because he has our blood. Sawyer and Quinn were my only family.

"Well Avery, I can understand your reservations about this plan but this is the best way to ensure that the three of you stay together. Your father and oldest brother are both good people. I'm sure the three of you will be happy there." I nodded and spun my dark brown hair around my finger looking completely relaxed about this whole thing while on the inside I was planning our out.

"Ms. Wilson we have no interest in this so-called family. Can we just go into foster care?" I knew that it would be easier to run away from some foster home where we know the streets than in New York with our so-called family.

"That is not possible Avery everything is already worked out with your family." On the inside, I wanted to scream at her but on the outside, I just smiled and nodded.

"How about you tell us about them then?" If she told us about them it would be easier to get away from them. I had no interest in these people especially if they could harm my twins.

"Well, the three of you have a father and six other brothers. They own a family business where your father and three older brothers work and the three younger ones are still in high school like the three of you." She seemed excited that I wanted to know about them; she probably thought I was accepting this all. I wasn't and I knew neither of my twins were either. I just nodded and I guess she knew we were done talking so she told us she would drive us to the hotel.

We nodded in agreement and as we got up and got our discarded backpacks we exchanged a look saying that we would discuss this in the hotel away from this woman.

Her car was a red 2015 BMW 3-Series and was fairly clean. My twins and I all sat across the back with Quinn in between Sawyer and me. Quinn rested her head against Sawyer's shoulder and he wrapped his arm around her and kissed her head. He caught me watching and gave me a rare childish smile and blew a kiss at me. I shook my head and watched the scenery pass out the window. Ms. Social Services offered to get us food and Sawyer agreed and she stopped at Mcdonald's where Sawyer got us each Mcnuggets, fries, and water because our stomachs can't handle sugary drinks right now because we haven't been able to eat much.

The car stopped outside a pretty basic-looking hotel and Ms. Social Services came in with us to get us the room key. She told us she will be back in the morning for us and asked for our cell phone number. She left us after walking us to our room.

We all walked in and began to eat our food. "What are we going to do Avery?" Quin even though she spoke Spanish I could tell she was worried.

"We need to sleep tonight, we're all exhausted, in the morning we'll get on the plane, and then once we're in New York far away from everyone who knows us we'll disappear," I spoke softly but confidently to my twins in Spanish hoping to reassure them.

"What do you guys think about this apparent family," Sawyer's normal friendly Spanish words were harsh and filled with distaste.

I shook my head, "They aren't our family. Papi was now it's just the three of us."

Quinn smiled softly her blue eyes identical to Sawyer's and my own sparkled a little, "The three of us against the world. We'll finally get our freedom."

Sawyer laughed, "Jezz Quinny can you be any more cliche?"

She just stuck her tongue out at him playfully and called dibs on the first shower as if Sawyer and I weren't going to offer her the first shower anyways. I smiled softly as she disappeared into the bathroom and Sawyer started listening to his podcast again. I cleaned up our food. Even though it wasn't a large meal I was stuffed and my twins probably were too.

After all three of us showered and treated our wounds the best we could we all cuddled together on one of the beds in the room and I fell asleep to my twins breathing. For the first time in so long, I was able to relax because no one could hurt us in this room.
