AN- This chapter is all about Dimitri and the triplets bonding with Alessandro
Dimitri Simmons POV when the triplets were little
I watch my three five-year-olds get ready, all three more interested in playing with one another than getting dressed. They begged me to let them pick out their own clothes today although Sawyer and Avery let Quinn decide the clothes for them. They all wore the colors I used to dress them in when they were little, a purple dress covered in flowers for Quinn, a yellow shirt, and jean shorts for Avery, and Sawyer wore almost the same thing as his older sister except his shirt was green.
I raised them alternating the days I spoke Spanish Russian and English hoping my triplets would pick up some of my family's language. Two days each for Russian and Spanish and three days for English. I also tried to show them the culture with the languages picking out foods and activities for the days in that language. Even at only five the three could speak fluently in all three and Quinn often stuck to Russian and Spanish rather than English.
Once the three were finally dressed I helped Quinn fix her long hair into a hair-do she was happy with and had Avery brush through her shoulder-length hair. Even though our house had more rooms the three were determined to share one amongst the three of them and I never forced the issue.
For breakfast I had the three help me make kasha a common Russian breakfast I knew the triplets loved. As we finished making the meal the three headed to the table to eat when my wife Dianne walked in. She ignored the food already made and made herself a bowl of cereal sitting away from the kids and me at the counter.
While I always dreamed of having kids Dianne refused to try and have one, I love her so I never pressed on the issue knowing it was her choice about getting pregnant. Then I met Amelia (AN- I don't know if I named Alessandro's wife and the kids' biological mother but that is who Amelia is). She was pregnant and in desperate need of help, my inheritance and my money from my job meant I had a lot in savings and something told me to help her. I got her an apartment in a safe part of town. I helped her pay for doctor visits and her hospital stay when she had the triplets and then for the baby stuff I fell in love with the three babies always smiling and attached to one another.
When Amelia begged me to take custody of them because she wasn't safe anymore and they wouldn't be safe with her I agreed immediately. If Dianne had a problem with it I would get a divorce but I couldn't let the three have anything bad happen to them.
It was hard taking care of three one-year-olds on my own because Dianne refused to be involved but I learned. I watch as Quinn spends her time eating bites of food between reading a new book in Russian I got them, Avery draws on her sketchbook, and Sawyer flips through a kids' crime magazine. The magazine wasn't in Russian but I made an exception for it because he loved reading it and it was the only kid-friendly thing I could find about true crime. My kids will never hear about the true darkness of the world until they are older and I can't protect them all the time anymore.
Once all four of us were finished I asked them if they wanted to go to the museum today. There was a Russian art exhibit taking place that the triplets and I would enjoy. All three of my солнышко (sunshines) (AN- his pet-names for the triplets won't change in meaning but change languages at times) snap their eyes to me and nod enthusiastically although my little Quinn bug a bit more hesitantly than the other two cautious of the people we would be around.
All three jumped up to get ready, Avery leading the three on what they needed to get so they could go dividing the tasks up between the three of them as they raced off. I chuckled and went to print off the tickets I ordered earlier. Even at only five my лисичка (little fox) Avery was more mature and organized than most adults I knew. Their mother would be proud of the three as my куколка (little doll) Quinn worked on working a book into her backpack and my лев (lion) pulled out pre-prepared snacks I had made and put them in his backpack.
