The Tardis materialises on a spaceship with a long central hub and two rotating sections, one larger than the other.
"It's a spaceship. Brilliant! I got a spaceship on my first go." Mickey cheers. There are lots of bits and pieces of equipment scattered around.
"It looks kind of abandoned. Anyone on board?" Rose said as no the two Timelords check the equipment.
"Nah, nothing here. Well, nothing dangerous. Well, not that dangerous. You know what, I'll just have a quick scan, in case there's anything dangerous." The Doctor says as Ky is doing just this.
"So, what's the date? How far we gone?" Rose ask.
"About three thousand years into your future, give or take." Ky says as her dad finds the light switch on a console. Part of the ceiling shows the stars.
"Fifty first century. Diagmar Cluster, you're a long way from home, Mick. Two and a half galaxies." Ky says to Mickey.
"Mickey Smith, meet the universe. See anything you like?" Rose says to the boy.
"It's so realistic!" Mickey says looking up.
"I should hope so Mick, you know, because it is." Ky says laughing at him. He looks at her and she smirks, and he smirks back. Rose notices this. She doesn't mind that they are somewhat flirting because she sort of has the Doctor. She just hoped the Doctor doesn't see this.
"Dear me, had some cowboys in here. Got a ton of repair work going on. Now that's odd. Look at that. All the warp engines are going. Full capacity. There's enough power running through this ship to punch a hole in the universe, but we're not moving. So where's all that power going?" The Doctor says looking at some screens.
"Where'd all the crew go?" Rose asks.
"Good question. No life readings on board." The Doctor points out.
"Well, we're in deep space. They didn't just nip out for a quick fag." She says to him.
"No, I've checked all the smoking pods..." Ky says and sees the look on her friends face. "...I'm being serious they have smoking pods. Can you smell that?" She says sniffing the air.
"Yeah, someone's cooking." Rose says.
"Sunday roast, definitely." Mickey says.
The Doctor uses the console to open a door behind them. The far wall is panelled, and contains a blazing fire in an ornate fireplace, with an ormolu clock on the mantlepiece. Kyraiah runs over to it to examine it.
"Well, there's something you don't see in your average spaceship. Eighteenth century. French. Nice mantle." The Doctor says from nearby.
"It's not a hologram. It's not even a reproduction. This actually is an eighteenth century French fireplace. Double sided. There's another room through there." Kyraiah says looking through the fireplace. Rose looks out of a porthole in the same wall.
"There can't be. That's the outer hull of the ship. Look." Rose says and the two men look out the window.
"Hello." Ky says, and gives a little wave, as a young girl in a nightgown appears, kneeling by the fire on the other side of the fireplace.
"Hello." She says back.
"What's your name?" Ky asks her.
"Reinette."
"Reinette, that's a beautiful name. Can you tell me where you are at the moment, Reinette?" Ky asks her curious as to where she's looking into.
"In my bedroom." The child replies.
"And where's your bedroom? Where do you live, Reinette?" She asks gently. The other three just look on, there two humans confused and the Doctor intrigued.
"Paris, of course."
"Paris, right!"
"Mademoiselle, what are you doing in my fireplace?" The girl asks confused.
"Oh, it's just a routine fire check. Can you tell me what year it is?" Ky asks her.
"Of course I can. Seventeen hundred and twenty seven." The girl replies.
"Right, lovely. One of my dads favourites. August is rubbish though he always says. Stay indoors. Okay, that's all for now. Thanks for your help. Hope you enjoy the rest of the fire. Night, night." Ky tells waving at her.
"Goodnight Mademoiselle."
"You guys said this was the fifty first century." Mickey says looking between the two aliens.
"He also said this ship was generating enough power to punch a hole in the universe. I think we just found the hole. Must be a spatio-temporal hyperlink." Ky said pointing at her dad.
"What's that?" Mickey says looking at the redhead.
"She has no idea. Just made it up. She didn't want to say magic door." The Doctor says laughing at his daughter when she scrunched up her face and stuck her tongue out at him.
"And on the other side of the magic door is France in 1727?" Rose says to them, trying not to laugh at the Timeladys face pulling.
"Well, she was speaking French. Right period French, too." The Doctor points out.
"She was speaking English, I heard her." Mickey says.
"That's the Tardis. Translates for you." Rose tells him.
"Even French?"
"Yeah."
"Gotcha!" Ky shouts as she finds what she was looking for.
"Kyraiah!" All three voices shout.
Ky has found the switch that rotates the fireplace, and round she goes into Reinettes bedroom.Reinette is asleep. It is snowing outside. Reinette wakes with a start.
"It's okay. Don't scream. It's me. It's the fireplace lady. Look. We were talking just a moment ago. I was in your fireplace." Ky says with her arms up trying to keep the girl calm. Ky lights a candle with her sonic screwdriver.
"Mademoiselle, that was weeks ago. That was months." The young blonde says.
"Really? Oh. You must have a loose connection. Need to get a man in, or even better a woman. Always more reliable." Ky says looking around the child's room. She notices the clock and gulps slightly. It's broken but there is a rather loud ticking.
"Who are you? And what are you doing here?" Reinette asks her.
"Okay, that's scary." Kyraiah says still staring at the clock.
"You're scared of a broken clock?" The girl asks the lady.
"Just a little scared, yeah. Just a little tiny bit. Because, you see, if this clock's broken, and it's the only clock in the room, then what's that?" Kyraiah says pointing out the loud ticking. "Because, you see, that's not a clock. You can tell by the resonance. Too big. About six feet, I'd say. The size of a man." She told the young girl.
"What is it?" Reinserted says getting slightly scared.
"Now, let's think. If you were a thing that ticked and you were hiding in someone's bedroom, first thing you do, break the clock. No one notices the sound of one clock ticking, but two? You might start to wonder if you're really alone. Stay on the bed for me sweetie. Right in the middle. Don't put your hands or feet over the edge." Ky says to her as she gets on her hands and knees and waves the screwdriver under the bed. Something knocks it out of her hand.
"Reinette whatever you do don't look round. Look right at me. Okay can you do that?" Ky asks the girl whilst looking right behind her at a figure in a smiley mask standing behind her.
"You, stay exactly where you are. Hold still, let me look." Ky says as she puts her fingers on Reinette's head and looks deep into her eyes.
"You've been scanning her brain. What, you've crossed two galaxies and thousands of years just to scan a child's brain? What could there be in a little girl's mind worth blowing a hole in the universe?" Ky asks the mechanical man.
"I don't understand. It wants me? You want me?" The girl asks turning to the figure.
"Not yet. You are incomplete." It replies to her.
"Incomplete? What does that mean, incomplete? If you can answer her, you can answer me too. What do you mean, incomplete? She's just a little girl." Kyraiah says as the the android walks round the bed and a blade comes out of its hand.
"Mademoiselle, be careful." Reinette says to her imaginary friend.
"It's just a nightmare, Reinette, don't worry about it. Everyone has nightmares..." Ky tells her as the android slashes at her and she dodges dodges. "...Even monsters from under the bed have nightmares, don't you, monster?" Ky says letting her eyes shine slightly. The blade gets stuck in the mantlepiece as it slashes at her again when she backed against the fireplace.
"What do monsters have nightmares about?" The girl asks her. Kyraiah activates the mechanism and the fireplace rotates again. "Me!" She shouts as she disappears from the girls bedroom.
"Ky!" The Doctor shouts and grabs a tube from a nearby rack and fires its contents over the android. It seizes up.
"Excellent. Ice gun." Mickey says.
"Fire extinguisher." Both Timelords say.
"Where did that thing come from?" Rose asks her redheaded friend.
"Here." She says.
"So why is it dressed like that?" Mickey asks curiously.
"Field trip to France, just like Ky. Some kind of basic camouflage protocol. Nice needlework, shame about the face." The Doctor says as he removes the android's face to reveal clockwork.
"Well that explains the ticking." Ky says to her dad.
"Oh, you are beautiful! No, really, you are. You're gorgeous! Look at that. Space age clockwork, I love it. I've got chills! Listen, seriously, I mean this from the heart, and, by the way, count those, it would be a crime, it would be an act of vandalism to disassemble you. But that won't stop me." The Doctor says as the android beams away.
"Short range teleport. Must be. Can't have got far. Could still be on board." Ky says looking at where it once stood.
"What is it?" Rose asks.
"Don't know, please guys don't go looking for it! That means you too dad." Ky says as she steps up to the fireplace again.
"Where're you going?" Rose asks her as her dad just shakes his head but lets her to do this. She seems to be having fun and after their last trip, he can't really say no.
"Why Paris of course. Back in a sec." Ky says as she presses the switch n the fireplace with one hand and waves at them with the other.
