"Flesh plus heat. Barbeque. But what are you doing here? You've opened up time windows. That takes colossal energy. Why come here? You could have gone to your repair yard. Instead you come to eighteenth century France? Why?" Kyraiah said still not getting it.
"One more part is required."
"Then why haven't you taken it?"
"She is incomplete."
"What, so, that's the plan, then. Just keep opening up more and more time windows, scanning her brain, checking to see if she's done yet." Ky said to the droid.
"Why her? You've got all of history to choose from. Why specifically her?" Rose asked the machine.
"We are the same."
"We are not the same. We are in no sense the same." Reinette said to it.
"We are the same."
"Get out of here. Get out of here this instant!"
"Reinette, no." Ky said and the droid teleports away.
"It's back on the ship. Dad, take Rose, Mickey and Arthur. Get after it. Follow it. Don't approach it, just watch what it does." Kyraiah said to them, she had to find out what it wanted.
"Arthur?" Rose asked her.
"What? Good name for a horse. Don't you think?" Ky said to her blonde friend.
"No, you're not keeping the horse." Rose said back to her.
"Dad let you keep Mickey. Now go! Go! Go!" She said to them.
The Doctor closes the mirror door after they all went through.
"Reinette, you're going to have to trust me. I need to find out what they're looking for. There's only one way I can do that. It won't hurt a bit." Ky said to her as she approached her. Ky places her fingers on Reinettes temples and instigates a mind meld.
"Fireplace Lady, you are inside my mind."
"Oh dear, Reinette. You've had some cowboys in here." Ky said to her.
"You are in my memories. You walk among them." The blonde said.
"If there's anything you don't want me to see, just imagine a door and close it. I won't look. Oh, actually there's a door just there. You might want to cl. Oh, actually, several." Kyraiah said with a bit of a laugh."To walk among the memories of another living soul. Do you ever get used to this?" She asked the Timelady.
"I don't make a habit of it."
"How can you resist?"
"What age are you?"
"So impertinent a question so early in the conversation. How promising."
"No, not my question, theirs. You're twenty three and for some reason, that means you're not old enough. Sorry, you might find old memories reawakening. Side effect."
"Oh, such a lonely childhood."
"It'll pass. Stay with me."
"Oh, Kyraiah. So lonely. So very, very alone."
"What do you mean, alone? You've never been alone in your life...When did you start calling me Kyraiah?" She asked when she realised the woman said her name.
"Such a lonely little girl. Lonely then and only a little less lonely now. How can you bear it?" Reinette asked her so Ky broke the link.
"How did you do that?" She asks
"A door, once opened, can be stepped through in either direction. Oh, Kyraiah. My lonely Kyraiah. Dance with me." Reinette said taking her angels hand.
"I can't."
"Dance with me."
"This is the night you dance with the King."
"Then first, I shall make him jealous."
"I can't. I'm not dressed for dancing." Kyraiah said in hopes for her to change her mind.
"Then we shall find you a dress. Your real purpose it's more than made out to be, isn't it?"
"What did you see?" Kyraiah asks her. Scared she saw what she could do and what she had done.
"That there comes a time, TimeLady, when every lonely little girl must learn how to dance." Reinette said as she dragged her away. Reinette did find her a dress and did indeed dance with her. She danced with many people that night.Crash, bang. Drunken voice off, singing. "I could've danced all night, I could've danced all night"
They called her the. They called her the, the" Rose says hearing her friend drunkenly singing and sighs. Ky sways in, wearing a gorgeous dress, carrying a goblet and has lipstick on her cheek.
"And still have begged for more. I could've spread my wings and done a thou. Have you met the French? My god, they know how to party." Kyraiah says swaying slightly.
"Oh, look at what the cat dragged in. The mighty protector." Rose says sarcastically.
"Oh, you sound just like my dad. Where is he by the way?" Ky asks her.
"Over there out cold. What've you been doing? Where've you been?" Rose says nodding her head in a sideways direction.
"Well, among other things, I think just invented the banana daiquiri a few centuries early. Do you know, they've never even seen a banana before. Always take a banana to a party, Rose. Bananas are soo good. My dad would be proud of that. Oh ho, ho, ho, ho, brilliant. It's you. You're my favourite, you are. You are the best! Do you know why? Because you're so thick. You're Mister Thick Thick Thickity Thick Face from Thicktown, Thickania. And so's your dad. Do you know what they were scanning Reinette's brain for? Her milometer. They want to know how old she is. Know why? Because this ship is thirty seven years old, and they think that when Reinette is thirty seven, when she's complete, then her brain will be compatible. So, that's what you're missing, isn't it, hmm? Command circuit. Your computer. Your ship needs a brain. And for some reason, God knows why, but only the brain of Madame de Pompadour will do." Ky says waltzing up to the droid beside Rose.
"The brain is compatible."
"Compatible? If you believe that, you probably believe this is a glass of wine." Ky says as she removes the android's mask and pours the contents of the goblet into its head. The clockwork seizes up.
"Multigrain anti-oil. If it moves, it doesn't" she states
Ky finds the android off switch on the console.
"Right, you two, that's enough lying about. Can one of you wake my dad up. Time we got the rest of the ship turned off." She says as she frees Rose and Mickey.
"Are those things safe?" Mickey asks as Rose goes to wake the unconscious Doctor.
"Yeah. Safe. Safe and thick, way I like them. Okay. All the time windows are controlled from here. I need to close them all down. Zeus plugs. Where are my Dad's Zeus plugs? They would have made great castanets."
"Why didn't they just open a time window to when she was thirty seven?" Rose asks her as the Doctor begins to stir.
"With the amount of damage to these circuits, they did well to hit the right century. Trial and error after that. The windows aren't closing. Why won't they close?" Ky asks as a bell rings.
"What's that?" Rose asks.
"I don't know. Incoming message?" Ky says
"From who?" Mickey asks her. He dad is now fully awake and standing, looks confused at his daughter.
They all finally look at her in the eighteenth century dress and can't believe how different she looks. The usual tight clothes are gone and it makes her look more grown up. (Style of dress up top)
"Report from the field probably. Yep. One of them must still be out there with Reinette. That's why you can't close the windows. There's an override." The Doctor tells her as he walks over.
The first android reactivates and expels the anti-oil out through its finger onto the floor.
"Well, that was a bit clever." Ky said.
The off switch moves itself to on again.
"Right. Many things about this are not good. Message from one of your little friends? Anything interesting?" The Doctor said.
"She is complete. It begins." A droid says and they all teleport out."What's happening?" Rose asked. The Doctor and Kyraiah were frantically using the monitors and dials and buttons.
"One of them must have found the right time window. Now it's time to send in the troops. And this time they're bringing back her head." The Doctor said.
Eventually they found it, after sending Rose to talk to an earlier version of Reinette she came back.
"You found it, then?" Rose asked them and Ky frowned.
"They knew I was coming. They blocked it off." She said.
The ballroom is visible on a large screen in the bulkhead.
"I don't get it. How come they got in there?" Rose said then.
"They teleported. You saw them. As long as the ship and the ballroom are linked, their short range teleports will do the trick." The Doctor said. He wanted to cheer Ky up but had no idea how.
"Well, we'll go in the Tardis!" Rose said also wanting to cheer the girl up.
"Nope. Can't use the Tardis. We're part of events now." Kyraiah said still just as upset.
"Well, can't we just smash through?" Mickey asked them.
"Hyperplex this side, plate glass the other. We need a truck." The Doctor said. This sparked an idea for Ky and her dad was not going to like it.
"We don't have a truck." Mickey said, downtrodden.
"I know we don't have a truck!" The Timelord yelled.
"Well, we've got to try something." Rose told him.
"No. Smash the glass, smash the time window. There'd be no way back." The Doctor said then realised his daughter was no where to be seen.
