Rose has changed into denim mini-dungarees with a purple shirt, tights and boots. She turns to the two Timelords, both of which look like they always do, and asks them, "What do you think of this? Will it do?"
"In the late 1970s? You'd be better off in a bin bag. Hold on, listen to this." The Doctor says whilst he puts a CD into the Tardis player.
"Ignore him, Rose you look great." Ky tells her best friend, leaning around the console slightly hitting her father on the shoulder lightly, he rubs it slightly playfully scowling at his daughter. He turns to Rose and just says to her. "Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Number One in 1979."
"You're a punk." Both girls say.
"It's good to be a lunatic." He just replies smiling wildly at the girls.
"That's what you are. A big old punk with a bit of rockabillly thrown in." Rose tells him walking to the console. All three are now stationed equal distances around the hexagon shaped centre console.
"Would you like to see him?" The Doctor asks Rose, both Timelords had agreed earlier that even though Ky said music related, it was ultimately up to Rose where and when she wanted to go but the Doctor decided to give her a suggestion. In reality he kind of wanted to go see this, he secretly hoped Rose would agree.
"How'd you mean? In concert?" Rose asks him.
"What else is a Tardis for? I can take you to the Battle of Trafalgar, the first anti-gravity Olympics, Caesar crossing the Rubicon or Ian Dury at the Top Rank, Sheffield, England, Earth, 21st November, 1979. What do you think?" He says to her.
Rose looks at him then Ky who is nodding at her. Both girls get the feeling he wants to see him really, she turns back to him "Sheffield it is."
"Hold on tight." The Doctor beats the rhythm of the song on the console as they travel. Both girls latch onto the console as it begins to move and shake them about.
"Stop!" They both tells the Doctor just as he hits the console with his handy mallet. They stop suddenly, and get thrown to the floor."I swear dad, just let me drive her one time and I'll show you that she's not supposed to throw you to the floor whilst we fly or land." Ky says to her dad. She had actually passed her test first time unlike some people who had never passed it. *cough* The Doctor *cough*
"Ky that's the fun of it, fly her properly and it's no fun. And anyway 1979. Hell of a year. China invades Vietnam. The Muppet Movie. Love that film. Margaret Thatcher. Urgh. Skylab falls to Earth, with a little help from me. Nearly took off my thumb." He says as he walks out the door. "And I like my thumb. I need my thumb. I'm very attached to" he continues to say until he hears Rifles being cocked. "My thumb." He finally mumbles.
"If I drove we would actually get to where we wanted to go, correct time and place. I'm not kidding worst driver ever. And they say women drivers are bad." She whispered to Rose, who snickers at the girls petty comment. Rose has no doubt that she was infact telling the truth though.
They are surrounded by Redcoats. The officer in charge is on a black horse.
"1879. Same difference." The Doctor says causing his daughter to let out a rather loud and unlady like snort.
"A 100 years out. Well done dad. Great job" Ky thinks to him but before he can reply she blocks the telepathic channel, effectively stopping him from answer her back.
"You will explain your presence. And the nakedness of these girls."
Both girls look at each other and themselves, Ky supposes Rose and her would look naked to them. This morning she had put a maroon jumper dress that came to just bellow her mid thigh, which let it be know her dad was very much against the length, and paired it with black tights and black small heeled boots that came up just below her knees.
"Are we in Scotland?" The Doctor said in a Scottish ascent looking around.
"How can you be ignorant of that?" The guars ask him.
"Oh, I'm, I'm dazed and confused. I've been chasing this, this wee naked child over hill and over dale with my daughter. Isn't that right, ya timorous beastie?" He says turning to Rose.
"Och, aye! I've been oot and aboot." Rose says.
"No, don't do that." Kyraiah whispered in her friends ear.
"Hoots mon." Rose continued.
"No, really don't. Really." The Doctor said backing the redhead up.
"Will you identify yourself, sir?" The guard says.
"I'm Doctor James McCrimmon, from the township of Balamory. And that there is my daughter Kyraiah McCrimmon." He says pointing to Ky. "I have my credentials, if I may." He then says as he gets out his psychic paper.
"As you can see, a Doctorate from the University of Edinburgh. I trained under Doctor Bell himself."
An upper-class English accent comes from a carriage nearby. "Let them approach."
"I don't think that's wise, ma'am." The man on the horse says.
"Let them approach."
"You will approach the carriage, and show all due deference." A footman opens the door to reveal the Imperial Widow.
"Kyraiah, Rose, might I introduce her Majesty Queen Victoria. Empress of India and Defender of the Faith." The Doctor says to the two smiling girls.
"Rose Tyler, Ma'am. And my apologies for being so naked."
"Kyraiah McCrimmon, your Majesty, I also apologise for my nakedness." Kyraiah said using the fake last name her father came up with. The Queen looked curiously at the redhead, she was clearly Irish and her fathers accent was Scottish but she said nothing of it.Looking at both girls, Victoria told them "I've had five daughters. It's nothing to me. But you, Doctor. Show me these credentials."
He hands her the psychic paper.
"Why didn't you say so immediately? It states clearly here that you have been appointed by the Lord Provost as my Protector."
For a fraction of a second the Doctor was shocked but quickly covered it. "Does it? Yes, it does. Good. Good. Then let me ask - why is Your Majesty travelling by road when there's a train all the way to Aberdeen?"
"A tree on the line."
"An accident?" Ky asked her, though she was quite sure of the answer.
"I am the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Everything around me tends to be planned."
"An assassination attempt?" The Doctor tried this time.
"What, seriously? There's people out to kill you?" Rose asked her her jaw hanging open slightly.
As not to offend the Queen by Roses behaviour, Ky leaned over her friend, who was stood slightly in front of her, with a sweet but apologetic smile and closed Roses mouth for her.
"I'm quite used to staring down the barrel of a gun." Victoria said to the blonde but smiled back at the quite charming redhead.
"Sir Robert MacLeish lives but ten miles hence. We've sent word ahead. He'll shelter us for tonight, then we can reach Balmoral tomorrow." A guard said.
"This Doctor, his daughter and his timorous beastie will come with us." The Queen told him.
"Yes, Ma'am. We'd better get moving - it's almost nightfall." He said to her.
"Indeed. And there are stories of wolves in these parts. Fanciful tales intended to scare the children. But good for the blood, I think. Drive on!" The Queen told the time travelling trio. The Doctor, Kyraiah and Rose walk with the soldiers behind the carriage.
"It's funny though, because you say assassination and you just think of Kennedy and stuff. Not her." Rose said to the pair walking with her.
"Why not Rose? She was, sorry I should say is at the moment, a remarkable woman that has quite a few enemies." Ky said to her.
"Exactly Ky. 1879? She's had, oh, six attempts on her life? And I'll tell you something else. We just met Queen Victoria!" The Doctor informed Rose.
"I know!" Rose said back to him.
"What a laugh!" He said laughing slightly.
"She was just sitting there." She said also lightly laughing
"Like a stamp." Ky chimes in making all three laugh harder.
"I want her to say we are not amused. I bet you five quid I can make her say it." Rose said to the Doctor
"Well, if I gambled on that, it'd be an abuse of my privileges of traveller in time." The Doctor told her.
"Ten quid?" Rose asked him, he didn't look convinced.
"Oh go on dad, do it." Kyraiah said changing his mind. She used the look again. The one he couldn't say no too, not for her own gain either just to have a laugh at who ever lost the bet.
"Done." He said to the girls. Rose looked at her friend and smiled, she saw the face. She love it when Raiah used that face. They finally arrived at the grand granite edifice that owns the courtyard. It has a large astronomical observatory on the roof. Ky was looking up at the house when in one of the upstairs windows she sees a man, who she reckons is the master of the house watching the Royal procession enter the courtyard.
