Last Timelady In Space

School reunion part two

After dark, they enter the school again. This time Mickey has joined them.
"Oh, it's weird seeing school at night. It just feels wrong. When I was a kid, I used to think all the teachers slept in school." Rose said to the other three.
"All right, team. Oh, I hate people who say team. Er, gang. Er, comrades. Anyway, Rose, go to the kitchen. Get a sample of that oil. Mickey, the new staff are all Maths teachers. Go and check out the Maths department. Me and Ky are  going to look in Finch's office. Be back here in ten minutes." The Doctor says and they leave up some stairs.
"I thought we were going to Finch's office?" Ky asks him as they go the complete wrong way.
"No were going to the Tardis, I think I'll have a friend there waiting for me. Wait out here for a minute then you can come in." He says as he strides into a room silently.
"Hello, Sarah Jane." She hears her dad say.
"It's you. Oh, Doctor Oh, my God, it's you, isn't it. You've regenerated." Sarah says back to him.
"Yeah. Half a dozen times since we last met." He says. Oh this is getting ridiculous Ky thinks to her self and slowly walks forward.
"You look incredible."
"So do you."
"Huh. I got old. What are you doing here?"
"Well, UFO sighting, school gets record results. I couldn't resist. What about you?"
"The same. I thought you'd died. I waited for you and you didn't come back, and I thought you must have died."
"I lived. Everyone else died."
"What do you mean?" Kyraiah took this as her queue to save her dad from talking about this alone.
"Dad come on... oh hello again Sarah Jane." She said as she walks up to her father as he wraps an arm around her shoulders.
"Everyone died, Sarah." He says looking at her then down briefly at his daughter. Sarah got the message.
"I can't believe it's you." She said, then there was a scream. "Okay, now I can!"
Rose runs up to them, "Did you hear that? Who's she?"
"Rose, Sarah Jane. Sarah Jane, Rose."
"Hi. Nice to meet you. You can tell you're getting older. Your assistants are getting younger." Sarah says to the Doctor.
"I'm not his assistant." Rose says harshly.
"No? Get you, tiger." Sarah smirks at him
"Ew, gross." Kyraiah says running ahead of the group shaking her head, making the other three chuckle and chase after her.
"I can see how she's your daughter." Sarah says as she runs after the quick redhead.
"It's a complicated thing, she's not biologically. But she most definitely my daughter. Now"

Kyraiah got to the classroom first. "Are you okay Mick?" Ky asked him and went to give him a hug. He was stiff to begin with then hugged her back. You couldn't help but like the sunny redhead when you were around her, well as long you weren't on her bad side that was. Their friendship had come along way from when they first met, back when he knocked her flat on her back in Cardiff.
"Yeah I'm fine Kyrai. Thanks for asking." He said to her.
"I was worried, we heard you scream." She told him, they pulled away as the others came into the room. The Doctor gave him the dad look. The kind of look a dad gives a guy when he's too close to his daughter.
"Sorry! Sorry, it was only me. You told me to investigate, so I started looking through some of these cupboards and all of these fell on me." Mickey said avoiding the Doctors eyes with the way he was looking at him.
"Oh, my God, they're rats. Dozens of rats. Vacuum packed rats." Rose said disgusted.
"And you decided to scream." The Doctor said. "Dad..." Ky hissed at him. Fed up of how her dad always treats him.
"It took me by surprise!"
"Like a little girl?"
"Dad leave him alone." Ky hissed at him again.
"It was dark! I was covered in rats!"
"Nine, maybe ten years old. I'm seeing pigtails, frilly skirt."
"Dad leave him the hell alone!" Ky spat at her dad seeing how uncomfortable everyone, mainly Mickey, else was getting. They all looked at her shocked for different reasons.
The Doctor had never heard her speak to him like that, then again she was very empathetic and could probably feel how Mickey was feeling. Rose couldn't believe she spat her words out at him, that was not the way she spoke to anyone, let alone her father.
Sarah Jane couldn't believe the way her attitude just changed like that. And lastly Mickey couldn't believe the Doctors own daughter spoke to him like that to defend Mickey.
"Hello, can we focus? Does anyone notice anything strange about this? Rats in school?" Rose said, shaking away her thoughts of Kys change in attitude to her dad.
"Well, obviously they use them in Biology lessons. They dissect them. Or maybe you haven't reached that bit yet. How old are you?" Sarah asked her.
"Excuse me, no one dissects rats in school anymore. They haven't done that for years. Where are you from, the dark ages?" Rose said back.
Ky could see this not being very fun.
"Anyway, moving on. Everything started when Mister Finch arrived. We should go and check his office." The Doctor said trying to cut the tension.

Back in the hallway on the way to the headmasters office rose asked Sarah Jane. "I don't mean to be rude or anything, but who exactly are you?"
"Sarah Jane Smith. I used to travel with the Doctor."
"Oh. Well, he's never mentioned you." Rose told her. Oh she was getting so jealous.
"Oh, I must've done. Sarah Jane. Mention her all the time. Ky I've mentioned her right?" The Doctor said, he was hoping that his daughter would back him up.
"Hold on. Sorry. Never." Rose said
"What, not even once? He didn't mention me even once?" Sarah asked very upset.
"I know about you. Dad showed me some of his past adventures. So that's how I know about you." Ky said flatly. She was so done with this now.
"Ho, ho, mate. The missus and the ex. Welcome to every man's worst nightmare." Mickey said to the Doctor

The Doctor lets Kyraiah use her sonic screwdriver on the lock.
"Maybe those rats were food." Ky hummed.
"Food for what?" Rose asked her as they entered the office.
"Rose, you know you used to think all the teachers slept in the school? Well, they do." The Doctor said looking up at what his daughter had already seen. Giant bats are hanging from the ceiling.
"No way!" Mickey says and runs. The others follow more sedately. One wakes when the Doctor shuts the door.

Out in the schoolyard Mickey tries to get his breath back as Ky rubs his back. "I am not going back in there. No way." He said to the group but mainly to the caring redhead next to him. She just nodded at him letting him know that it was okay.
"Those were teachers." Rose said in disbelief.
"When Finch arrived, he brought with him seven new teachers, four dinner ladies and a nurse. Thirteen. Thirteen big bat people. Come on." The Doctor said turning back to the school.
"Come on? You've got to be kidding!" Mickey said as he watched him start to walk backwards.
"I need the Tardis. I've got to analyse that oil from the kitchen."
"I might be able to help you there. I've got something to show you." Sarah Jane said.

Sarah Jane walked them to her car and opened the boot and removed a blanket.
"K9! Ky, Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, allow me to introduce K9. well, K9 Mark Three to be precise." The Doctor said cheerily.
"Why does he look so disco?" Rose asked him.
"Oi! Listen, in the year five thousand, this was cutting edge. What's happened to him?" The Doctor asked Sarah
"Oh, one day, he just, nothing." Sarah told him.
"Well, didn't you try and get him repaired?" The Doctor asked her.
Ky scoffed "Oh come on dad, as if she could, you said year five thousand."
"She's right you know, it's not like getting parts for a Mini Metro, Beside, the technology inside him could rewrite human science. I couldn't show him to anyone." Sarah said.
"Ooh, what's the nasty lady done to you, eh?" The Doctor said looking at K9 . He was getting rusty round the edges.
"Look, no offence, but could you three just stop petting for a minute? Never mind the tin dog. We're busy." Rose says trying to get their attention.

In a cafe, the Doctor and Ky try to fix K9.
"I thought of you on Christmas Day. This Christmas just gone? Great big spaceship overhead. I thought, oh yeah, bet he's up there." Sarah said.
"We were right on top of it, yeah." Ky told her smiling.
"And Rose?" Sarah said.
"She was there too." The Doctor said. Sarah Jane felt a little put off by this. His daughter, she could understand but other humans? So she asked what was on her mind. "Did I do something wrong, because you never came back for me. You just dumped me."
"I told you. I was called back home and in those days humans weren't allowed." The Doctor d her.
"Is that where you found Ky? I waited for you. I missed you." The brunette woman said to him.
"No it wasn't and oh, you didn't need me. You were getting on with your life." The Doctor answered her.
"You were my life. You know what the most difficult thing was? Coping with what happens next, or with what doesn't happen next. You took me to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, you showed me supernovas, intergalactic battles, and then you just dropped me back on Earth. How could anything compare to that?" Sarah asked him.
"All those things you saw, do you want me to apologise for that?"
"No, but we get a taste of that splendour and then we have to go back."
"Look at you, you're investigating. You found that school. You're doing what we always did."
"You could have come back."
"I couldn't."
"Why not?"
Both Timelords keep working on K9.
"It wasn't Croydon. Where you dropped me off, that wasn't Croydon." This got Kys attention.
"Where was it?"
"Aberdeen."
"Right. That's next to Croydon, isn't it?"
"Dad, you really are a moron. And apparently you always have been." Ky said shaking her head.

(A/N- sorry for not uploading in a while. Had to take some time for myself. I was in a bad place and was struggling to have motivation for anything. I'm back now and feeling much better. Next week back to normal uploads though.)
