"Woah," Nena said, gazing at the Statue of Liberty. At the moment, we were all at the bottom, Sam included, and Nena was openly admiring the statue with drool coming out of her mouth. I'm guessing that she's never been here before. "Are we going all the way to the top?"
"Nope," James said, shaking his head. I caught Luke giving me a sneaky grin and I knew that he was going to do something about it. "Also Lauren, you can't go up there. The stairs aren't crutch friendly." Was that even a thing?
"Then can I hop up there?" I hopefully asked. Taking a picture on the Statue of Liberty was on my bucket list and nothing could stop me at the moment.
"No," he said, shrugging. "Unless one of your friends is fine with carrying you up for twenty minutes."
"Fine by me," Trent cheekily grinned. Him and Blake decided to join our group and leave their friends alone. Sam had his fists clenched but didn't look at anyone, just at the top. Anyone who didn't know what was going on would think that he hated Lady Liberty.
"Not happening," Luke immediately said. He took both of my crutches and forced me to get on his back, spinning around. I smacked his head so that he would stop.
"Well then good luck," James snorted. "I'm staying out here and I want you guys down here in less than two hours. We have to drive back."
Everyone but Sam pouted at the news and quickly ran inside. Only a couple other groups from our school were walking up the stairs and the rest were sitting outside on their phones. What a bunch of idiots.
"My legs hurt," Luke complained after two minutes of going up.
"Then let me down," I said, trying to get off but he firmly held me in place.
"No way," he snorted. "You don't need another broken bone. One's annoying enough and I don't want to be your personal slave any longer."
"You'll always be my personal slave," I jokingly promised, patting his hair a little harder than normal. He grunted and rolled his eyes, exaggeratingly walking up the stairs.
Not being able to handle me a minute later, he dropped me somewhat carefully a couple steps away from him and stretched out his back. I'm pretty sure my butt has a bruise.
"Want me to help?" Blake offered, giving me a hand to help me up. I thanked him but shook my head, using the railing to hop up the stairs. I'm not going to lie, this was a little fun.
"Want a ride?" Marcie asked, concernedly looking down. I wouldn't mind but we were practically the same height and weight.
"Nah," I waved off, hoppin gup a couple more stairs. Nena, Chase, and Trent were racing each other upstairs and were probably near the top already. "This is fun."
"My back is okay now," Luke said, leaning down to get me up on him again. I snuck a look at Sam but he looked a little hesitant and moved ahead of us to give a distance. That hurt a little inside.
"I could stay here forever," Liam sighed happily. "I swear to god we are coming here in the summer."
"I thought we were going somewhere else," Marcie frowned, trying to think. We did have this conversation before but my memory is shit.
"We have over two months though," he pointed out. "Your leg better be fixed by then."
"It will at some point," I reassured him. "It's not like it's stopping anything now."
"It's stopping me from growing," Luke groaned.
"You can't grow anymore," I reminded him, ruffling his hair to annoy him on purpose. He loves his hair.
