Astrid's P. O. V:I sigh as I stand on the balcony with King Uther Pendragon, facing the courtyard. I'm wearing a long sleeved light pink dress with my golden blonde hair loose around my shoulders, helping to hide my natural elf ears. They're also hidden by a powerful glamour spell is cast to disguise myself as a normal human—though a normal human with magic.
I'm also wearing my gold heart shaped locket necklace with a leaf design that my past husband, Derek, gave me as a birthday gift so long ago. I'm hardly ever seen without it, except when I go to special events. I'm wearing a pair of black leather fingerless arm warmers on both hands that I wear almost all the time, except for special events, as well.
Today is Wednesday, meaning there's an execution going on in the courtyard below, which would explain the crowds of people gathered.
And the King standing on the balcony beside me.
I hate executions, especially because, one day, it could be me there, should anyone, apart from Gaius, the Court Physician, find out. So, it's not like I wanted to be up here, in the front row seat with the mighty King himself. I'd much rather be buried deep in a book or helping my friend, Gaius, the court physician in his quarters. Just... anywhere but here, next to my enemy.
But, oh, no! Uther had forced me to come with him because he reminded me that I'm his "friend." As if I want to watch one of my kind be beheaded before me.
