Fate's POV
It was 4 in the goddamned morning and I was sitting at the computer in our war room going over file after file that could be Red. None of them matched perfectly, Something was always off something that couldn’t be changed about her. Stryker was right if she was bought form the government then she would have a file. They would have passed her through here sometime and I would be able to find something. Anything at this rate would be amazing, Helios had been scarce on details and it was pissing me off. So far I had gotten nothing and it was beginning to chew at me, Who was Rhedella Wulf, and why the hell was she going after the Mafias. I couldn’t find anything!
My breaking point had to be today, it was the pleading in her eyes as she looked to me. Something was hinky with the whole set up between her and Helios, and since she came here I had begun to doubt Helios. Up until now I had trusted a man I knew nothing about with my life and secrets, I trusted him to keep me safe. Yet I knew nothing about him, but bringing her in was somewhat of a wake up call. She wasn’t the only one who was shrouded in mystery, The guys and I shared everything, as girly as that sounds we were like brothers. Hell we had to be in order to work together like this, if we didn’t then we could fuck up and cost each other our lives. No way I wanted that on my conscious, but we knew our reasons, our drive to go after the Mafia bosses. We knew our own breaking points, but Helios and Red, those two... Damn it, I just needed some shred of evidence to tell me who was who.
I paused in my constant scanning and bit my knuckle, I was doing this off clock so neither Stryker or Webb knew what I was doing. I just couldn’t sleep, not after what I saw today. The coy shyness in her eyes after she had been caught by Webb, the fear and desperation in her eyes when she was being walked across the mat. My hands tightened into white knuckled fists and I punched the screen as it came up blank again. Damnit! Who was she!
There was a noise that jolted me back from my anger, I spun around in the chair and looked at the empty room the glow from the computer illuminating everything. Nobody was in here. I frowned and rubbed my forehead, I needed sleep but at this rate I wasn’t going anywhere. I pushed up from my seat, I kicked the computer off and moved through the doorway into the sleeping quarters. Then I heard it again, it was a soft muffled cry. I looked around at the doors that led to Strykers and Webbs room, waiting in a dragging silence for the noise again.
But nothing.
I dropped my head I was hearing things. I took a step towards my room which was at the end of the hallway, opposite to hers. I touched the handle of my door and heard it again, I spun around looking down the hallway. It sounded louder, I grabbed my gun from the shoulder holster and held it up. Somebody was there, I moved back down the hallway. It came again and I spun around, it was quieter now. I felt my forehead crease in a frown as I moved cautiously back down towards my hallway.
I stood in front of my door my back pressed to it and counted. The cry came again and I stared at her door, I took a step closer and counted backwards from twenty. hoping it wasn’t coming from her room, I didn’t want to know what could possible be going on behind that door.
“One” I whispered under my breath, right on queue her muffled cry drifted through the air.
That was a sound of pain, damnit if she had hurt herself today then we would all pay for it later. I raised my gun and moved forward, pushing her door open and looking into a messy well lived in space. Maps lined the ceiling and walls along with movie posters that looked to be from old silent and black and white movies. The bed was pressed against the side of the wall, The sheets were still neatly made.
They hadn’t been touched, the window allowed in light giving the room an eerie pale glow. The cry sounded again and I spun on my heel pointing my gun at her closet, which had a neat path made towards it. I moved over slowly one step at a time towards her closet doors, I leaned forward wrapping my hand around the small golden handle turning it slowly. I took a deep breath ready for what ever was behind the white doors, I pulled it back stepping back as the doors swung open.
