Molly sits downstairs at the table, drinking coffee. The door opens and Tom walks inside, setting his keys down on the table. His eyes look empty and cold.
"Thomas," Molly says. He ignores her and watches at the cabinets above her head. "Thomas?"
"Yes, Molly?" he finally says, with no emotion on his voice.
"Were you drinking again? I won't be mad but if you drank, I need to know about it."
"N... no, no, I wasn't."
"Then what the hell is wrong? You look very out of it. Did you do drugs or some shit?"
"I... I'm just going to go upstairs to take a s... shower and then sleep."
"Tom, come back, what's wrong with you? I believe you that you didn't drink but something's not right."
"Goodnight." Tom says and slowly walks upstairs. "I love you."
Molly wanted to run after him but it was a better idea to not. He clearly needed time alone to think about something.
About an hour later, Molly walks into their bedroom. Tom is laying with his knees to his chest, eyes closed, on the edge of their bed. The small droplets of water falling from his wet hair make a puddle on his pillow.
"Thomas?" Molly says. "Honey, what are you doing?"
"Going to sleep," he blandly replies.
"You're lying in the fetal position. What the hell happened while you were gone?"
"Nothing, Molly, I'm just tired."
"This isn't tired," she responds and starts to gently rub his back. Molly was still furious with him but there was clearly something wrong. "Come on, Tom."
"I'd just like to go to bed."
Molly sighs and lays down next to her husband. She didn't know what happened, but something did.
It took awhile to fall asleep because she was terrified of what he did, but eventually she tested.
Molly wakes up the next morning to Tom sleeping in the same curled position. The left side of his hair was still a little wet from sleeping on his side.
She sighs and lays her head next to his. "Tommy," Molly whispers and gently runs her thumb over his cheek. "Honey, what happened?"
He softly turns in his sleep and nussles his head into Molly's chest. She smiles and looks down at him. "Thomas?"
"Yes, Mols?" he exhales.
"Baby, what happened?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Last night."
Molly's feels her husband's body stiffen upon hearing those words. "Nothing."
"Stop lying to me, I know that something happened."
"Alright, I saw Matt."
"You saw Matt? What did he do to you? I'm going to the police."
"Don't," Tom quickly snaps, earning a look from his wife. "I mean, don't because he didn't see me. I saw him in a restaurant."
"You saw him in a restaurant?" Molly snaps.
"He had someone with him, I assume a parole officer."
"You're not telling me the truth. You wouldn't be freaking out like this if you just saw him in a restaurant."
"It was late at night and it startled me, that's all."
