Somebody That I Used To Know

She Couldn't Win

Tom lays on the bed, clutching Lily's blanket in his hands.

Denise hears the phone ringing on the table and gently removes herself from the bed, trying not to disturb him.

Denise usually didn't answer unknown numbers but dianthus told her this one was important. "Hello?"

"Denise, it's Molly."

"Molly? H-hey. How... how did you get-"

"It was on the studio's website next to your email."

"Oh, um, alright. What... what do you need?"

"Well first off, I wanted to apologise for my behavior in your apartment. Well, not for my behavior, but it happened in your apartment. If your landlord or neighbors or something had an issue, please give them my email and I'll settle it, alright?"

"Thank you but don't worry, no one says anything."

"Good, good. Where's Tom?"

"Laying down."

"Is he okay?"

"Um... that's not my business to share, Molly, I'm sorry."

"Listen, Lily... Lily forgot her blanket here and now she's panicking because she can't sleep. But she's also unbelievably pissed at me so she's really a bit distressed."

"Yeah, sure, um... I, I'm sorry."

"Would you mind coming over to drop it off? Lily was a sobbing wreck and kept saying how she wanted Tom. I thought that... since it'd be at my house so I'd be there to make sure everything was alright, he could come and tuck her in and sit with her until she falls asleep. She currently hates me and refuses to go to sleep without Tom and her blanket."

"Molly, what do you think Tom's going to do? I agree that he's had a temper lately but honestly, he's so upset about Lily being kept from him and he can't think straight."

"I'm not keeping Lily from him."

"I understand why you were mad today, he should've called you back and this is none of my business, but you told him that he's not allowed to see her. What do you seriously think he's going to do to her?"

"I think he's going to flip out and hurt her."

"Molly-" Denise says.

"You don't know him as well as I do. Before all this happened, he wouldn't even hurt a fly. After Matt started blackmailing him, he became cold. He flips out and I'm scared that Lily I'd going to put him over the edge and he'll hit her."

"He's a good man."

"I don't enjoy keeping my daughter from her father but it's for the best, at least until he gets better."

"He'll get better with the support of his family."

"He has you now."

"Molly, I can't help him anymore. I try all the time to make him feel better but-"

"Well that's not my job and good luck because it won't work. No matter how much you try to help, he never listens. Please hurry, alright? I can't take Lily like this."

"Goodbye," Denise hangs up the phone and walks back into her bedroom. "Tom?"

"Don't talk to me." he mutters. "I don't want to talk to anyone right now."

"Molly called."

"And let me guess, she's moving back to Ireland and taking Lily with her?"

"No, she wants us to come over and bring back Lily's blanket."
