"So I told my teacher that my daddy was Loki and my friend was happy and showed me his folder because you and Uncle Hemmy we're in the cover so then I told him that he was my uncle was Thor which he thought was cool and wants to meet you guys." Lily exclusive while being walked to the car.
Tom chuckles at his daughter's long explaination. "And who's your friend?"
"Trevor."
"Trevor? Who's Trevor?"
"The kid in my class."
"I know, love, but I haven't heard of him before. Is he new at school?"
"No, we became friends this morning." she shrugs and continues to skip alone.
A smile lights up Tom's face. Lily's life was so easy, so carefree... nothing could interfere with that. As a parent, Tom did whatever he could to protect her. Not for a moment did he ever second guess the things he had to do to insure his daughter's safety.
"Alright, love, let's get home."
"Is Mummy still mad at you?"
"Can't you give me a straight fucking answer?" Molly screams. "Just tell me that you're cheating on me, it's better than this back and forth."
"I'm not cheating, Molly, I swear." Tom replies. "Just let me do what I have to do."
"What do you have to do? You make it sound like creeping in the night is a life or death situation."
"Because it might be. Just leave it alone."
"So you're in a potential life or death situation and you can't tell me what's going on? You haven't considered calling the police?"
"Well... it's not that urgent, but-"
"Then it's not a life or death situation."
"Molly-"
"Fuck you." she snaps and walks out of their bedroom.
"Um... what do you mean, dear?"
"Mummy was screaming at you last night. I don't like that, it scares me."
"Mummy's not mad at you," Tom says. "She never will be. I'm sorry that you heard that but the yelling is never directed or is because of you. It's strictly a Mummy and Daddy problem."
"What does cheating mean? Like ar a board game?"
"Yes. Mummy was worried that Daddy cheated at a board game, that's all it was."
"Okay, Daddy. Can I have a sip of your water?"
Tom looks at the two clear water bottles in his cupholder. "Um... yeah, let me-" Tom grabs the one closest to him and takes a sip of the water... it was clean. He switches out the bottles and places the one that he'd just drank from closer to Lillian. "Take this one, darling. When we're in the car, make sure to only take a drink from the bottle closest to you."
"What happens if I don't?"
"Um... well, my bottle is only for Daddy's, not you. You have your very own special bottle closest to you, so just take that, alright?"
"Okay, Daddy." Lily shrugs and takes a drink of her water. "Ah," she exclaims, making an exaggerated swallowing sound.
Tom drives home, thinking about the water bottle in his cup holder. They get to a stop and he quickly takes a swig of the water. "Lils?"
"Yeah?"
"Go in the pocket behind my seat and get Daddy a piece of mint gum, please."
"Okay. Can I have one?"
