Molly runs through the halls, almost bumping into multiple doctors.
"Dr. Bettany?" Molly yells. "Where's Dr. Bettany?"
"Molly," he says, placing a hand on her arm. "I'm right here."
"Where's Tom?"
"In the other room. It's alright, he's still stable. We're getting his heart rate back up."
"How... how did this happen?"
"He wasn't eating so his heart was over working to pump blood. It got too hard and it just stopped."
"Can I see him?"
"There's a woman in there with him."
"I'll get rid of her."
"Molly, I know this is a lot to deal with but he's going to be okay. It's been a few hours, if he was going to crash again, it would've most likely happened."
"I need to see him."
"Go ahead."
Molly opens the door, seeing Denise sitting on the chair next to his bed.
"Denise? I'm here now," Molly says. "You can go."
"Oh, um, I'll go get a coffee then and I'll be back soon."
"No, no, you don't have to come back until tomorrow."
"Molly, I need to be with him." Denise says.
"I'm the mother of his daughter, I need to make sure that everything is alright and that I don't have to get my daughter rushed here to say goodbye to her daddy. I'm not with him anymore, it's not my responsibility to watch over him."
"I'm sorry, I was in Colorado saying goodbye to my dying grandmother. I couldn't stay here."
"It's not your fault, it's completely at fault of his own. I just wish that there was someone who could make sure that he was okay. I'm nicely asking you to leave, I need to make sure I'm here with him."
"We'll take turns. I'll get coffee and I'll be back."
"Just please go."
Denise gently leans down and kisses Tom on the forehead, stroking his cheek with care. "I'll be back, alright? I love you, sweetheart. Make sure you wait for me."
Molly watches as Denise walks away and sits down on the chair. She tightly grips onto Tom's hand, staring into his closed eyes. Although she just saw him not too long ago, he looked like a completely different man. "How could you do this to yourself? I knew there was something wrong and... I blew it off because we're not married anymore. If I would've paid more attention to you, this would never have happened."
Molly watches Tom's slow, shallow breathes. She looks up at the heart rate monitor and it's steady, adding a bit of comfort. What seems like thousands of wires are hooked up to monitors on his chest, making sure that everything is running smoothly.
"You can't do this to us. This has gone on for far too long. I mean, you... this happened before when you tried to kill yourself, you were in this hospital. Why? Why didn't all of the therapy we took you to help? I mean, you've seen different people for different things and none of them could even ease your mind in the slightest? That's not right. It's not supposed to be this way. Lily needs her Dad, Tom, not to say goodbye. You have the power, you can control this, please, Thomas, please don't do this."
Molly looks up and sees Denise standing in the hallway by the door. "I forgot my wallet." she quietly says.
"I'm just leaving anyway, it's fine. You don't have to leave."
"Are you sure? I understand if you want to be here. I can't kick you out, you are his wife."
Molly gets up and gives Denise a slow hug. "Make sure nothing happens while I'm gone, okay?"
"I will."
"Thanks."
Molly sighs and walks out of the hospital room, regretting the fact that she ever asked him to separate.
